Bayfox Posted 8 December 2015 Posted 8 December 2015 Special fried rice No chance, that early in the menu it's got to be a soup or a ribs.
Captain... Posted 8 December 2015 Posted 8 December 2015 No chance, that early in the menu it's got to be a soup or a ribs. Seeing as it is the number 10 roll, I would say spring - Chicken or Vegetable
Countryfox Posted 8 December 2015 Posted 8 December 2015 Hi Guys, I have noticed a lot of talk about the number 10 role being the most important to improve on and I am inclined to agree. I am curious to know who people know of that they think could fit the bill. I would like someone who has the pace to keep up with our attack but who is this person. Ideas! Now who was it that started a 'Kramaric v Austin' thread many moons ago when everyone was banging on about a new RB or we'd be in the sh1t. Well the RB issue has died down a bit now and I think when Ulloa/Okazaki start to get some goals this No 10 business will go the same way. JV and RM are banging the goals in so are being given more opportunities to score by the rest of the team. If that changes then I expect others to step up to the mark. Leo, Shinji, DD, Albrighton, Jeff, .... all must have a few goals in them ?? However ! .... I still think we need another striker to cover for injury (especially JV) and that would be good business in January.
ImBlue Posted 8 December 2015 Posted 8 December 2015 Please explain, whats a number 10...???? It's the position you can put a failing striker which makes aimless running acceptable in lieu of goals and assists.
fuchsntf Posted 8 December 2015 Posted 8 December 2015 So a cross between, Beardsley, fried rice, spare ribs, Maradona, spring chicken, Embolo, Perez, and soup, is the real meaning of a no 10..??? Naaa, in that case I will stick with my king Richard III theme.

I don't think it will, watching Simpson we don't seem to have too many issues with the defending of that position, It's not as if crosses are constantly fired in or Simpson gets left for dead by the opposition's left winger. You only have to watch Okazaki or Ulloa to know that they're reasonably ineffective in that position. They're reasonably competent but you never see them go past people or pick out a pass. The No10 role is the glaring weakness in our team, it should be held by one of the best players in the team and it simply isn't whatever way you look at it. We would just improve so much if we could make a marquee signing in that position.
AKCJ Posted 8 December 2015 Posted 8 December 2015 Of course, isn't a forward's job to score and assist goals? Do you have to directly get the stat that says "assist" or "goal"? Some football fans are so obsessed with stats that they can't seem to realise what's happening in front of them.

Last season Leo scored more goals than Nugent and Vardy put together.

Sometimes you would be pivotal to a goal but not get the assist, which can be unfair/misleading, but he hasnt been unlucky for 15 games, he's just not at all creative.
americanfox Posted 8 December 2015 Posted 8 December 2015 I'm not arguing with you about getting someone else in but think we are being a bit hard on SO and LU ..... Last season Leo scored more goals than Nugent and Vardy put together. But Leo scored many of them during a purple patch, then really really faded away (like most of the squad). The type of player that will improve this club is one that can be really really consistent in his job (of course not necessarily scoring goals all the time, since that makes one a world-class player), and Ulloa doesn't offer that as a goal-scorer or attacking threat. It's a damn good indicator. Sometimes you would be pivotal to a goal but not get the assist, which can be unfair/misleading, but he hasnt been unlucky for 15 games, he's just not at all creative. If only assists were tracked like they do in hockey. So N'Golo would have an assist too for that last Mahrez goal, as thoroughly deserved.

Some football fans are so obsessed with stats that they can't seem to realise what's happening in front of them. Long term , yes. Can you name some top class strikers in the history of football that rarely scored or assisted? Over a big enough sample size then the stats virtually prove everything. If we didn't keep score in cricket you could say Ian Bell was a better bat than Alastair Cook as he has a more flamboyant style but the stats indicate Cook is superior.

We have tried Mahrez (arguably our best player) in that role and he was ineffective, as well as Schlupp who was awful, and I'm not sure who was playing the number 10 role against Bournemouth but they were also poor. As a team we are very effective with Okazaki and Ulloa in that role, and whilst it could be improved upon it isn't a crisis and in desperate need of changing.

I'm saying that it isn't the be all and end all. Kante and Drinkwater have been extremely creative in the middle this season because they play excellent passes to the strikers. It's a matter of perspective. Was Simpson being creative when he passed the ball up to Vardy in the lead to Mahrez's second? I'd say he was. Was Schmeichel being creative when he threw the ball to Fuchs against United? Catch my drift?

I wouldn't say crisis either but for me it's the glaring position in our team that could be vastly improved upon. Ulloa and Okazaki have their merits but IMOI plainly not good enough for that role. Imagine if we'd bought Payet instead of Okazaki for instance.
polarbear Posted 8 December 2015 Posted 8 December 2015 Are ppl seriously ignoring krama from this discussion?
ImBlue Posted 8 December 2015 Posted 8 December 2015 Who hasn't? Have a think about the only person who has played that role for us and not got an assist Iol

Bluetintedspecs Posted 8 December 2015 Posted 8 December 2015 Maybe we could pick a TEAM and play a formation that pushes us up to the top of the league? Oh wait!
ImBlue Posted 8 December 2015 Posted 8 December 2015 To be fair, Ulloa doesn't even play like a number 10.
Gerard Posted 8 December 2015 Posted 8 December 2015 Maybe we could pick a TEAM and play a formation that pushes us up to the top of the league? Oh wait! Brilliant, so we have a team that can't be improved? It's such a lame argument to suggest the whole team is worthy of No1 position when it's plainly obvious that some contribute more than others.
Freesolo Posted 8 December 2015 Posted 8 December 2015 Heskey was a great No10 a lot better than Ulloa, he held the ball up well was fast, strong could cross the ball only negative he spend too much time on his arse mind you MON wanted set pieces since that's where most our goals came from
