Number 10 role

Heskey was a great No10 a lot better than Ulloa, he held the ball up well was fast, strong could cross the ball only negative he spend too much time on his arse mind you MON wanted set pieces since that's where most our goals came from

Vardy and Heskey would be dynamite in this team, pity we couldn't clone Heskey.

At his peak he would have fitted that role so beautifully in this team.

Brilliant, so we have a team that can't be improved?

It's such a lame argument to suggest the whole team is worthy of No1 position when it's plainly obvious that some contribute more than others.

Will you lighten up and get over yourself, you're not our football manager nor the font of all knowledge! Ofcourse the team can be improved as can your attitude, sense of perspective and reality.

We'll just have to agree to disagree then.

Are ppl seriously ignoring krama from this discussion?

Looks like it, and Andy King too. I guess neither are good enough for a mention.

Got to be a second striker rather than a attacking midfielder imo, we play a lot of long balls and the two most forward players have to be close to each other to play off each other and link up effectively.

I wasn't arguing , I'm happy with our formation, players and roles at the moment. In my opinion the No 10 role is not what we're playing with SO or LU and that's just an opinion. In our squad I feel that Andy King is probably the nearest we've got to fitting that role but once again that is an opinion only.

This will be a hugely controversial suggestion but I actually think Deeney would be a great foil for Vardy. He's been very effective in the no 10 role this season for Watford and has played a huge part in Igahlo's success. He's also now adding goals to his game. Was very impressed by him when we played them recently. For me he would be a significant upgrade on Ulloa. Faster, works harder, better first touch, more mobile, presses more effectively and is just as good in the air. Ulloa is simply not fast or mobile enough to play the role he is being asked to play this season, which is very different to being the target man, which he did moderately well last season. I know Deeney scored 'that' goal but we all forgave Speedie for doing something similar all those years ago.

Improvement he might be, but the above statement is just stupid. He's done himself justice when he has started after playing a largely but part figure early season, has notched up a goal and couple of assists. Moderately well? He hit double figures in the premier league, them goals kept us up, no two ways about it.

Please tell me a number 10 (if that's the role you think he plays) has to be fast?

This season the plan is to press from the front, which is why CR plays Okazaki there so often. Ulloa doesn't have the mobility or speed to press effectively. Against weaker teams that is okay, hence why Ulloa played v Newcastle and Swansea but left out v Man U. Don't get me wrong I like Ulloa but he is best as a target man, not a deeper lying forward. Just my view.

I do but you're giving our No 10 credit when it can't be quantified which is convenient.

They're not stand out awful but it is the weakest position in our team.

That's where we'll have to disagree then mate. Can't see how our second strikers have been as much of a problem as our defence personally.

I think Ulloa can link play well and it's unfair to pigeon hole him as a target man personally. Good feet for a big man.

Okazaki isn't fast either, dead heat between the two if you ask me, but I don't think a support striker needs pace, just a bit of strength, good vision and very good touch.

We don't need a 'number 10.' This is another one of the myths of modern football. Chelsea have about 7 'number 10's and they aren't scoring goals. With the formation and style that we play we really don't need a creative number 10. A centre forward to play with Vardy could be an option in January as Okazaki and Kramaric have not looked up to it so far.

Finally. I can understand a number 10 in the 4-5-1, but ours is a 4-4-2.

Where do the arguments/opinions lead, if Ulloa scores in the next 6 games, or scores every second game in the next 12.

Not beyond him.He scores or assist the goals in these big games coming up.

Just a question, nothing more...

agree with this, Deeney + Vardy could be a lot better than Deeney + Ighalo for sure, plus Vardy links linking up with his strike partner as he did effectively with Dave Nugent

Same place.

Or maybe I should just post the 20+ criterion I have for both of them and we should duel it out right now.

For me right now with money incoming from the league says, spend.

I wouldn't normally advise this in terms of the risk but an Ighalo would offer so much and in terms of the gamble of January and a 20+ million outlay would be negated comfortably by a top four finish and at 26 would resolve some concerns if Vardy moved at some juncture.

Finally. I can understand a number 10 in the 4-5-1, but ours is a 4-4-2.

It's not really a standard 442 though is it. The two up top are never in line with each other, one is always deeper regardless of whether it's Okazaki or Ulloha.

You could describe this as a 442 with a forward dropped back, or a 451 with a midfielder pushed forward. The description doesn't matter. The important thing is understanding the purpose of the role and it's clear that you simply don't.

Pressing from the front has been immensely valuable for us this season. It's one of our strongest attributes, and is in fact being copied across the league. You put two standard strikers up front in line with each other and you lose that. You lose one of the main reasons why we're doing do well.

I would like another goalscorer (i like the idea of Ighalo, or someone simiar), because we are missing chances to put games to bed, and also we need to be able to replace Vardy if he gets injured etc or eventually leaves.

But I wouldn't discount a number 10 too. Although our style doesn't accommodate a number 10 at the moment there may come a time when teams learn to park the bus against us and nullify our counterattacking ability (man u achieved this to some extent). It would be good then to have a different option available to give us another way of breaking them down.
