Scout wanted by Arsenal

Didn't he use to be at Chelsea and worked with Ranieri there? he has got great eye for a player and would be a big loss to the club if he was to go.

I doubt we would let him go, the owners and manager know how important his contribution has been to the rise of this club

The only thing I'm surprised at is that every club in the World isn't trying to get him.

Hopefully he's been working alongside someone younger who we're intending to let step into his shoes once Walsh is gone. Whether he goes Arsenal or not, he's not young, we need to prepare for life after him anyway.

I imagine there would be a lot more job satisfaction at Leicester than Arsenal for Steve Walsh.

If he went to Arsenal then he probably doesn't recommend Vardy, Mahrez or even Kante. Ant player he recommends will have to be world class standard or nearly world class. At Leicester he can take a few more chances as our bar isn't quite as high as Arsenal's.

He would be a massive loss and reading this article Ranieri has a good relationship with him and after signing Kante and obviously values his opinion and respects him as Walsh got his way over Ranieri in this one. If Walsh feels he has a free hand to bring in who he wants then that's half the battle to keeping him here. It's imperative we keep him as player recruitment is probably the most important thing at the club and you don't want to lose someone who excels in it.

Them first two paragraphs are written with blue tinted glasses on and a lack of looking into how these sort of teams are ran.

Big clubs sign people with potential and loan them out as they can't afford the risk of playing them in their first team. Then, if they are a success but don't reach their full potential they can still sell for a decent profit (we signed Mahrez for £400k, even a slight improvement and they could double their money easy) but if they prove their potential they win.

This doesn't decrease his job satisfaction, he will have a bigger budget and a chance to reshape a huge club. Bloody hope he stays though.

Live in London spending a vastly improved salary.

He's getting a doubled salary if he stays here next year anyway. Plus I don't get the whole live in London thing, the house prices are extortionate, everything is more expensive and it's the busiest area in the country. Just don't get the big appeal of living in London, IMO it's well overrated

He doesn't have to live in London

Arsenals training complex is just outside St. Albans. South Herts is a pretty decent place to live. you want to go into London and it's a 20min train ride. you want to walk in the hills and that's a twenty minute drive northwest. countryside on your doorstep. House prices won't be an issue for someone on an arsenal salary. He used to work at Chelsea so it's not like he hasn't worked darn sarf.

If they want him then I suspect we will have to do a hell of a lot to keep him and his leaving would perhaps reveal just how cosy the relationship is between Claudio and Nigel's old staff.

We seem to have concluded very strongly that Walsh and Shakespeare are absolutely vital to our success and irreplaceable but there is really no tangible evidence that they are.

No doubt we've signed a couple of bargains over the last five years but other clubs have made good signings as well. Mahrez stands out, of course, but it's not like we're signing bargains like that every season. He's a one off, and wasn't even targeted from what I've heard. The scouts were lucky enough to see him perform well when they were watching someone else.

I'm not saying these guys haven't done superb jobs, but they're not irreplaceable either, especially not now with our elevated standing in the game.

We improved on Pearson, comfortably, despite a lot of people worrying that we wouldn't. There's no reason to be overly concerned that we won't be able to improve on the back room staff, if and when they leave.

Key personal are vital in any business. The balance between success and failure especially in football rests on a few things. The right Manager getting the best out of the players, Scouts finding the right talent. The success we're having is happening because we've had the right people in key places which has created the environment for the players to gel and perform. That doesn't happen by luck. Someone behind the scenes knows what their at. That may be the Owners or it may be someone else connected with the Club.

Anyone who has ever played any football management game will tell you the most important thing at any club is recruitment of players.

You can get away with non optimal tactics, etc but players win and lose you matches. Tactics, etc, only decide by how much you win or lose by.

How easily Steve Walsh could be replaced I don't know but it's imperative a club spends well to succeed.

I don't want him to go, if only to stop the full scale mourning that may happen on this forum. We should probably have some kind of system that creates good scouts or something, dunno.

I don't think he'll leave.

Hopefully his DNA is embedded into the club. He has a lot of power here if he suggested the manager and got Kante here against Ranieri's instinct.

With the club on an upward trajectory he may want to continue this ride rather than being answerable to Arsenal's head of recruitment.

This makes me quite worried. Firstly, he is a first class scout, who without him we wouldn't be in this position. Secondly, if he goes he will have all the inside info on the players we may be looking at, as well as the players Arsenal should take from us such as Kante, Mahrez and several youth players.

I say throw the cheque book at him now

Even more so in a generation where every club in the league has money behind them. The way we've utilised it is what sets us apart from the others. We've got the best pound for pound team in the league.

I was just the same when I use to play Subuteo.
