Guest MattP Posted 16 August 2016 Share Posted 16 August 2016 First of all what a great series, it's always good to play for Pakistan and if it wasn't for their supporters I'd like over here more often. What do we do about this team then? Anyone who can spin the ball or bat to a competent level should be in. It's two spinners in the Asian countries and Moeen will move up the order to fill a batting spot I presume, then it's Rashid, Batty or Ansari, really wouldn't surprise me if they went with Ansari now as Rashid (along with Moeen) is another at the coconut shy and Batty is probably considered too old. Hales, Vince and Ballance should all be gone and never seen again in this format, Sam Northeast is averaging 90 (albeit in div 2), he should come in, Keaton Jennings averages over 50 on those ghastly pitches at Durham in Division One, Hamed and Bell Drummond have to be considered. I'd go with. Cook Jennings Root Northeast Bairstow Stokes Ali Woakes Ansari Broad Anderson
leicsmac Posted 16 August 2016 Share Posted 16 August 2016 I'd hold onto Ballance, but Hales and Vince definitely need to go. Hamed seems in form right now, perhaps him and Ansari to come in as straight swaps. We're going to need a a lot of seamers to rotate things in the heat over there so I don't fancy dropping one (perhaps Wood for Finn though) and it wouldn't leave us with that much of a tail. That should be your absolute last consideration when picking bowlers though. If seven or eight competent batsmen can't do their job and get you up to reasonable totals each innings, then you're picking the wrong seven or eight. I know it's a bit of an old fashioned attitude but having a bowler who can bat should be considered a bonus, not a requirement. Steady on, you'll have me ranting about specialist keepers in a minute. Ha! Yeah, I agree with you. Perhaps I wasn't making myself clear - I consider not being left with much of a tail as an additional benefit as opposed to a requirement. I think that having four/five seamers (Anderson, Broad, Woakes and Wood, with Stokes to provide occasional backup) to rotate and support the spinners will be essential as quite frankly I'm not sure either Moeen or Anzari/Rashid will be able to get the job done bowling-wise on their own, even in India. You won't need five seamers over there, Stokes, Broad, Anderson and Woakes is more than enough. The spinners are just going to have to perform, if Ali is the second spinner then whoever is the first one has to step up.

Osavo Posted 19 August 2016 Share Posted 19 August 2016 Can't wait for finals day tomorrow. Think I would have gone if it wasn't for the Arsenal game. Fancy Notts' chance of at least making the final with Russell, Hales and Broad in the side. However, Yorkshire look a very formidable outfit, I reckon they'll win it. Osavo Posted 20 August 2016 Share Posted 20 August 2016 What a poor chase. Such a promising team on paper yet we never fail to bottle it on the big stage. Russell and Read the only players to come out with any credit really.

rmahrez Posted 30 August 2016 Share Posted 30 August 2016 Can't see us not getting 400, could get 450. Hales could absolutely smash the England ODI record score as well if he sees this through.

Hales well in form to annihilate that!

rmahrez Posted 30 August 2016 Share Posted 30 August 2016 Out for 171, at least he wasn't run out on 167 Now to focus on the score. Buttler sent in at 4 to smash us past 400 hopefully.

Swarles Barkley Posted 30 August 2016 Share Posted 30 August 2016 Great innings by Englands but how bad were pakistan, both bowling and fielding were atrocious.
Osavo Posted 30 August 2016 Share Posted 30 August 2016 Wow, utter chaos. What a batting performance. Understand Pakistan may have helped us with their below par bowling and fielding but the way Hales, Buttler, Morgan and Root punished them was sensational. StanSP Posted 30 August 2016 Share Posted 30 August 2016 Some brilliant hitting going on at Trent Bridge still. Mohammed Amir has smacked 50 off 22 balls
purpleronnie Posted 30 August 2016 Share Posted 30 August 2016 Lots of records going. But surely the one that will last the longest is Amir's 50 as a number 11, not only is it the first time a number 11 has hit 50 in a ODI but to do it in just 22 balls....will that ever be beaten? In this day and age definitely, we could even have a situation where a player like Woakes is batting at number 11, Starc has done it for Aus and Southee for NZ, all far better batsman than Amir.
