Corky Posted 17 July 2016 Share Posted 17 July 2016 Totally needless, we still have several hours to play, knock the ball around on the floor. Seriously dense cricket.

CKB Posted 17 July 2016 Share Posted 17 July 2016 Seems to be always the case, throw a decent spinner at us and we crumble. When are we actually going to address this problem that has plagued us for years?
Captain... Posted 18 July 2016 Share Posted 18 July 2016 Hopefully we have learnt from this test, too many wickets fell to aggressive shots against good bowlers. This is test cricket and it was great to see some application from Ballance, Bairstow and Woakes to just see off Yasir. I don't understand why we started each innings in one day mode. Was it because we were so scared of Yasir we were trying to get runs on the board early before he ripped through us? Gifting Rahat 3 wickets was just criminal. purpleronnie Posted 18 July 2016 Share Posted 18 July 2016 What's happened to Stuart Broads batting?, 4-5 years ago he seemed to become a very good all rounder but since then he's been awful with the bat.

He's never recovered from being hit the face. Every ball now he's hanging back as he is scared of the short ball so he's useless against any pace, he must have been bowled/trapped LBW more times in the last 18 months than he had been previously in his career. Captain... Posted 22 July 2016 Share Posted 22 July 2016 Massive toss to win and great to see Cook and Root accumulating runs with Yasir not posing much threat on a day one pitch, another failure from Hales though.
Guest MattP Posted 22 July 2016 Share Posted 22 July 2016 Cracking partnership this, in a fine position to level this up and thank god we won't be chasing a total batting fourth.
Captain... Posted 22 July 2016 Share Posted 22 July 2016 Ton for Cook, I bet Boycott isn't be happy with the stick Amir is getting, probably not helping the batsmen either.

Manwell Pablo Posted 25 July 2016 Share Posted 25 July 2016 We should still win but bemused why we didn't just make them follow on, especially with the possibility of rain. They were never going to get near the total and we've effectively given ourselves half a day less to skittle them :-/

purpleronnie Posted 25 July 2016 Share Posted 25 July 2016 It makes no sense at all, deteriorating pitch? We just bowled them out for less than a 2 hundred so that arguement doesn't wash, resting bowlers? well they admitted that wasn't a reason for batting again besides as mattp said theres 10 days for rest plus they only bowled 63 overs. Can't see any other cricket nation not forcing the follow on in that position. We used to have a reputation for being over cautious which would often mean we drew matches which we should have won. But the bottom line is we should have plenty of time to bowl them out, but now if we don't the decision will be rightly ridiculed.

The Aussies put us in a couple of times last Ashes series over there when 300 odd in front, it can be used to humiliate the opposition, was risky here though with some rain forecast over two years, fortunately our bowling is so good in these conditions I'd be surprised if Pakistan made it to tomorrow.
