Corky Posted 2 July 2016 Posted 2 July 2016 You've had enough of our footballers, we'd like something in return.
Osavo Posted 7 July 2016 Posted 7 July 2016 Not sure about Ballance back in the test side. Would have preferred Buttler as I think he offers us something a little different in the middle order, whilst also being a better keeper than Bairstow.
Captain... Posted 8 July 2016 Posted 8 July 2016 Not sure about Ballance back in the test side. Would have preferred Buttler as I think he offers us something a little different in the middle order, whilst also being a better keeper than Bairstow. I think the problem is if you pick Buttler then you have to give him the gloves which would not be great for Bairstow, because if Stokes comes back in for Buttler when fit and Bairstow gets the gloves back it's not going to be great for his confidence, it is also the best way for Bairstow to improve his keeping. Buttler also lost his place for a reason he wasn't scoring in tests, keep him as a specialist one day batsman and maybe back up wicket keeper to Bairstow, Bairstow is number 1 and we should show faith in him. Ballance is more of a like for like replacement and hopefully he will have a good series, he showed plenty of promise and maybe the time away from the test team will have done him good. We can't go gung-ho batting in the tests we need players that will protect their wicket and be able to grind out a century and not just rattle off a quick fire 30.
Guest MattP Posted 8 July 2016 Posted 8 July 2016 This is a nightmare series for Ballance. Back in against Riaz and Aamer? Two of the best bowlers with the left arm pace his feet can't cope with. I'll be surprised if he makes a 50 all series.
Guest MattP Posted 14 July 2016 Posted 14 July 2016 So glad we persisted with Woakes, he's the closest we've got to Anderson and getting better and better.
Voll Blau Posted 14 July 2016 Posted 14 July 2016 Seems Pakistan might put up more of a challenge this series than I thought, which is good to see. Sounds like a couple of wickets were given away softly though?
Voll Blau Posted 14 July 2016 Posted 14 July 2016 Sad news that Michael Carberry has been diagnosed with a cancerous tumour. Hope he makes a speedy and full recovery.
Ross-Kemp Posted 15 July 2016 Posted 15 July 2016 Woakes too 6 for 70 with Pakistan all out for 339. Currently at lunch with England 64/1 off 11 overs.
Captain... Posted 15 July 2016 Posted 15 July 2016 64 - 1 off 11 overs is a decent return in an ODI Good positive batting from Cook and Root, but it means nothing if they can't convert the start.
Ross-Kemp Posted 15 July 2016 Posted 15 July 2016 Jesus Christ. Root, Vince & Ballance all gone within 29 runs. Captain Cook leading the charge on 70.
Crinklyfox Posted 15 July 2016 Posted 15 July 2016 Disappointed that we don't seem to be able to handle gentle spin on a flat wicket. Doesn't bode well for Old Trafford which turns a lot more.
Guest MattP Posted 15 July 2016 Posted 15 July 2016 Exposed to leg spin again, we never play against it so can't handle it.
leicsmac Posted 16 July 2016 Posted 16 July 2016 Conversation on Sky at lunch: Holding: "Which was worse, apartheid or Packer?" Gower: "...you tell me?" Oh David, what are you saying? Might be a 'retirement' package in the offing pretty soon.
marko Posted 16 July 2016 Posted 16 July 2016 Chris Woakes has become an impressive bowler. Long may it continue!
purpleronnie Posted 16 July 2016 Posted 16 July 2016 Got to be more ruthless. At 64/4 we should be looking to get them out for around 150.
Ross-Kemp Posted 16 July 2016 Posted 16 July 2016 11 wickets for 101 runs in the match so far for Woakes. 5 for 30 in the 2nd innings, superb bowling.
Corky Posted 16 July 2016 Posted 16 July 2016 Really felt for Finn, out of form yet should've had two wickets from fairly comfortable dropped catches. He'll be dropped for Anderson again which is a shame as he has talent and Woakes has proved that perseverance can pay off.
purpleronnie Posted 17 July 2016 Posted 17 July 2016 Well we were ruthless at the end there. Cook gone, could be a close one?
leicsmac Posted 17 July 2016 Posted 17 July 2016 Oh, Alex. Footwork worse than mine. Only chance now is to smack Yasir out of the attack when he comes on before he can do much damage - or he'll run through the rest of the order.
Guest MattP Posted 17 July 2016 Posted 17 July 2016 If Ali ever plays another test after that shot it's one too many. Beyond belief.
