Second half of the Season - 19 games

As we know Claudio has set a target of matching the points tally from the first 19 games plus an extra point to take us to 40.

Bournemouth - 1 point

Tottenham - 3 points

Aston Villa - 1 point

So we've got 5 points so far but we also got 5 points from the same fixtures in the first half of the season so maybe we are on track.

It will be interesting to see how this trend continues.

Beat Stoke and we will be 2 points up on the first half.

Lets face it we'd all be happy with four points from this week, it's just the fact we all thought it'd be the other way around. Draw at White Hart Lane and win at Villa Park and I know I wouldn't feel as disappointed as I am after yesterdays result.

I knew Bournemouth would be a tough game but to miss out on three points at home against such opposition was disappointing too.

Can't afford to miss penalties. Scoring both of those would have been such a difference at the top of the table.

The massive factor is we have only lost 2 games in the first half of the season, We have managed to get 4 points off Tottenham, 4 off Villa and 2 off Bournemouth keep taking points like this off our double headers and we stand a massive chance of staying in the top 4, obviously there will be games where we can acheive 6 points from the likes of Newcastle, Swansea, Sunderland etc.. so this would balance out the 2 points off Bournemouth and so on.

if we can avearge 4 points off every team that will put us on 76 points which should secure a CL spot.

I've said it before but we need to win our home games.  We have nobody to fear at home for the rest of the season with the exception of maybe Liverpool, if they get going.  Our away fixtures in the second half are way tougher - Arsenal, Man C, Man U and Chelsea amongst them.

We have 9 home games left, which could be 27 points meaning to reach our target we need to pick up 8 points on the road.  Sounds easy on paper but trust me, it'll be more difficult than we think.

One possible concern is this.

We got 20/30 points away and 19/27 at home.

It was generally accepted that the away fixtures had seen us play fewer of the top teams.

Targets of 25/30 at home ( 1/3 already ) and 15/27 away ( 4/6 already ), or equivalent, look just a bit too optimistic.

So how about top 4?

67 is usually enough for top 4, but this season is tight at the top so more likely 70-71 required.

Finishing 4th would see a potentially difficult CL qualifier, so top 3 should be the aim, and about 73-74 points.

With 9 to play at home and 7 away, targets of 20/27 at home and 9 or 10/21 away are realistically attainable.

The way Leicester were playing up to the missed penalty yesterday, I feel Villa would have been down and out - the miss seemed to galvanise them into believing they could get something out of the match.

Similarly, 10 man Bournemouth may well have left themselves open in search of an equaliser, rather than settle for the point they had.

Maybe we've been the beneficiaries of a couple of borderline penalty decisions ( for and against ) but it doesn't help if we miss those awarded.

A penalty of similar style but more poorly executed saw us lose a play-off semi-final a few years ago. That is Mahrez's third miss ( if shoot out at Hull included ) and that is not good enough at this level,

27 points available. If we can get 16 points minimum from these fixtures, that will put us on 60 points. I expect we can get another 10 away from home. I think that's a fair expectation, it wont win us the league but 70 points should get us top four.

I think one important factor in this run of home games, is that we will be playing Everton & Southampton who will be mid table and nothing to play for in April/May. That's six points we should definitely be getting imo

Well CR said the new points target is 79

Going by our last 5 performances I think that's an unlikely target, maybe more like 65 tbh

we should of beat Villa yesterday....poor performance

I'm just pleased that Ranieri has set another target. I was getting a bit fed up of the 40 points one.

Whether we can achieve 79 remains to be seen but with 2 thrown away yesterday doesn't help.

Other factors come into play too, like the form of the team we are playing which we wont know until nearer the time.

For example, I would love to play Palace away now as they are dog shit at the minute but they might pick up by March when we play them. Swansea could be an inspired team whilst fighting for survival in April, making the match up harder.

I'm not too disappointed. 5 points from 3 isn't too bad in a unpredictable year, anything could happen later at Stoke too.

The only way I see it as a slight disappointment is that if Mahrez had put both those penalties away it would be 9 points rather than 5 but that's just your luck.

Bournemouth was always going to be a hard game, they are in good form currently, Spurs only expected a draw so to get all 3 was a bonus and Villa was going to be tricky with being abit of a Derby game and then coming off a win. Do feel like we did allow them to play which was disappointing, if they were a better team we would of lost that yesterday

Bournemouth & spurs is understandable

but Villa were pure dogshite and were there for the taking, should of been 5-0 by half time IMO

we just gave the ball away too much yesterday and didnt find our passes

Can see those penalty misses being quite defining come the end of the season.

Yep.  Every point is vital.  So as not to be too downbeat about it though, I'm only looking at it as 2 points dropped.  100% we would have gone on to beat Villa but Bournemouth had time to get something out of the game and would have been pressing for a goal rather than trying to defend a 0-0.  I sleep easier thinking they would have got an equaliser anyway.

The next four fixtures yielded 2 points in the first half of the season!

We would very likely be outside the top four if thats all we take! We need to beat Stoke. No two ways about it.

They have the distraction of the league cup return next Wednesday so we really do have that in our favour. we've had our rest - the remainder of he campaign starts now! Beginning with a win for the reserves against Spurs !

Matching our results from the first half sounds OK until you realise to do that we'd need to go to Stamford Bridge and win, go to City and Utd and not lose. Also gotta go to Selhurst and Vicarage Road and win.

I just hope we don't bin the FA Cup replay, because that could be our better shot at Europe.

On our day we're capable of beating anyone and given cup games tend to be more open affairs, that would suit our counter attacking game.

Although their's no points on offer, I think Wednesday's game will have a big impact on the general feel around the camp.

That's not to say I wouldn't expect changes, but I'd like to see framework changes rather than wholesale, with a view to those that feature getting a run of games.

I just realised, but if we even get just one draw in our next 3 games. We'd still be on +2 for the second half! And I can't imagine we'll be as sloppy against Liverpool and Arsenal again...

Only losing twice all season has helped significantly in our rise to the top. What I've noticed is that when we were not winning, during that patch for example where we didn't win for a couple of games (not too sure how many games that was) we were not losing games, we were still getting draws.

That showed we can still pick up points despite us going on a run of games without winning.

And then when you consider all the games we've won as well, it's ultimately going to lead to success.
