Could other clubs use our scouting network?

With our recent success stories like Vardy, Mahrez and Kantė etc could other clubs just look to hijack deals for the players we're scouting?

It's difficult to keep potential deals quiet nowadays so it would be relatively easy for them to do this. Maybe I'm just being paranoid but I've seen the likes of Chelsea and United all of a sudden interested in players we've been linked with for weeks.

Thoughts?

We've been feeding dis-information all over the place, as if we are really interested in Loic Remy, but everyone thinks we are and tries to hijack that deal while we sneak under the radar with a doozy.

United don't seem to have good scouts and Chelsea just throw money at ananything

Who says? Just because they haven't bought well recently? I'm sure they still pick up tons of young players.

Exactly. That's how to deal with it. Keep throwing out red herrings.

Well rob mackenzie has gone to spurs and I think another one of our scouts has gone to Arsenal so I guess they are just taking our scouting network no need to copy lol

Keeping Walsh is priority!

I think the days of sneaking under the radar are largely over now, even with "smokescreens" or mis-information.

It's one thing to do that with a player like Knockaert who nobody had heard of in this country while our scouting network had no reputation.

Now we'll be after high-profile players and it benefits the player, the agent and the selling club to get any interest on our part into the public domain as soon as possible, so that there's no excuse if we found the next Kante, Mahrez etc.

Even being where we are in the league and having more to spend on transfer fees and wages than most people seem to realise means very little because there will still always be a more attractive offer to tease out somewhere (e.g. Eder and Inter, Musa and potentially Manchester United).

I'm just impressed we managed to sign Gray and Amartey as I can see transfers being really difficult to complete at the moment.

The striker (if it happens) will be even more impressive, especially if we get any kind of value for money, with the world and his wife aware that we need one, we have money to spend and the deadline is fast approaching.

This place is just going to get worse by the look of things - prepare for more and more links to players and try not to think we're in for all of them. Life would be a lot easier for people who get stressed about those things if they just ignored the paper talk and waited to see the players on the pitch. All the hype about players we didn't sign like Aranguiz in the past and look where we are without any of them.

If we're scouting based on stats then those stats are available to everyone. It's hardly surprising that other clubs want to sign the same promising players as us.

We are high profile,  its the January (desperate) window, and we need a striker.   Add that all up and its no wonder these things are happening ....   everyone is running around like headless chickens.   I would have had this all sorted before the window and had players that could hit the ground running, so when the window opened the deal was done, but to be fair no one would have guessed where we would be in terms of league position.   We have done a couple of good deals so far which have obviously been planned some time ago but for the striker we need now its a case of rush around and splash the cash and ...    keep our fingers crossed he is not a lemon !

The mother of all smokescreens, that one.

I remember my Villa supporting colleague goading me that they had stolen a worldie from under our noses - the missing bit that would get them to Europe in two years - while we had to do with sloppy seconds. "Some midget who'll never be good enough for the Prem" - ie. Ngolo Kante.

Who they then pass on to us because they buy in the 'big names' to play in the first team. We are very grateful for what they have given us.

This great scouting network thing is getting a little tiresome to be honest, especially given the current striker situation!

We've made plenty of transfer mistakes, the standout successes of Vardy, Mahrez and Kante.. yes great.. but most Premier League clubs would expect at least two or three gems over a period of time and most clubs do!

- We don't seem to scout youth talent well (proper youth, 15 & 16 i'm not talking Gray and the danish keeper level)

- We're not exactly shit hot on whats in front of our noses (Austin fro £4 million! lol)

I'd say our scouting network is just fine... but certainly not on a level where other clubs would be using it to make their bids! It is possible that clubs track the same players you know lol

Reports: Arsenal snatches Leicester City’s head of technical scouting Leave a comment

According to multiple reports across England, Arsenal will officially sign Leicester City’s head of technical scouting Ben Wrigglesworth, a move that’s been in the works since mid-December. Wrigglesworth has helped form the stunning squad Leicester sports this year, most notably for his part in the discovery and signing of Riyad Mahrez who came from French club Le Havre in January of 2014.

Wrigglesworth is currently on gardening leave with Leicester ahead of his switch. He will team up with current Arsenal head scout Steve Rowley as part of the major changes expected in north London.

Arsenal is looking to completely redo their recruitment staff, and the Gunners are looking to the Foxes as a launchpad for new scouting success. Wrigglesworth becomes the second Leicester staff member to depart for London, with Rob Mackenzie joining Tottenham as head of player identification last February.

It’s being reported by many English outlets that Leicester’s head of recruitment Steve Walsh is also wanted by Arsenal, but that he has a hefty release clause in his contract of close to $1.5 million which is severely deterring the Gunners.

Leicester City sits atop the Premier League table, a point above Arsenal, but the Gunners still have yet to play this weekend.

This should be more of a concern to us...

But is it though? His job is the equivalent of getting really into a game of FM and watching the highlights reel of a player you want to sign, before looking at his stats and doing some in depth analysis on whether those stats will go up or down in the future.....
