Bye bye Benny

That attitude is exactly what I mean. Terrible.

Why? Of course he was a poor signing, he rarely played a game. And we paid a decent amount of money too.

So if he had played all season in place of Huth, then would Huth have been a poor signing?

Also since their was a loan fee (I believe?), I doubt there is a recall clause for Benny. Probably one for RDL though.

Well no, considering Huth was a significant and influential part of us staying up last season.

You can turn it the other way and ask why the staff didn't rate Benalyoune as much as Huth/Morgan?

It's all relative of course.

So the summer signing of Huth (for quite a bit too if you recall) would have been a good one if he got little game time, but the summer signing of Benny (who yes was more expensive) is a poor signing because he hasn't got much game time? Sorry but that doesn't make sense.

Maybe the staff do rate him, bit don't want to disrupt the partnership of Huth and Morgan?

I still think Benny, if he wants to stay in the summer, will have a huge role next season, with Europe, and even take a place in the first XI for the Prem.

Liam Moore is back from his loan, which means with him and Wasyl we have two centre backs for cover. Added to that Amartey can play centre back and doesn't look as if Wes/Huth are ever going to get displaced from the team, it makes sense to loan him out if he wants playing time.

I guess this sort of sums it up for me. We are hoping to gain an amazing Champions League spot. Expectations higher than any of us would have ever thought.

Liam Moore (although down the pecking order) is not good enough by any means for a team with these aspirations. I hope there IS a recall option on Benny (though I read they'd paid a fee?) In case we need him.

I suppose there's always a recall option in all three cases, so I wouldn't worry that much.

I read they'd paid a fee for Benny so I thought that meant no recall option? Could be wrong.

Can't really get used to loaning out 4th choice centre back to Fiorentina, who are 3rd in Serie A.

Benny has been better in his appearances than I thought he would be, definitely a centre back rather than a right back though which is what we thought we'd signed in the summer. Has to be seen as a flop though, in terms of value for money.

He cost nearly 6 million and never played. Terrible signing.

6 million isn't that much for a top Prem squad player nowadays. Not that the price should worry you at all.

Posted

If you're spending one million quid for every start (in competitions that we got nowhere in) it's not a good signing. Doesn't matter how good you are if you're on your arse.

We'll get most of that back when he's sold.

I always thought CR bought him before he knew how the players would react to him after Pearsons sacking. Effectively he bought himself an ally in the changing room.

You can't say its a bad deal IMO. When we bought him, none of us would have guessed Morgan and Huth, and Simposon, would be as solid as they have been.

It's the same with Inler - he's not had a look in either because the other players have been so good.

It's fine looking at it in hindsight, but given what they knew then bringing him in was the right thing to do.

I wonder if this move has more to do with personal reasons than anything else. Life is probably just easier for Benny in Italy, where he speaks the language better and had five decent years of his career. I wish him well, and I'm certainly going to keep following him on Twitter.

Granted he rarely played but when he did he performed well. He has has the misfortune of trying to topple Wes and Huth who have been in good form all season. He needs game time but i want to see him back.

Do you guys think he will be with us next season?

On twitter he says he will come back stronger for next season

I think he will be back. Seems like he genuinely loves it here, which is amazing considering he hasn't played for us hardly at all. I think he will be our 3rd choice CB next year unless we sign someone in the summer, which I suspect we will actually.

Leicester City recently allowed Yohan Benalouane to depart the club after he failed to cement himself a place in the first-team at the King Power Stadium.

He headed out on loan to Fiorentina on transfer deadline day with the Italian side looking at a potential permanent deal in the summer.

Benalouane has previously played in Italy with Cesena, Parma and Atalanta - from whom Leicester plucked him away in the summer for a deal reported by ESPN to have been in the region of €8 million (£6 million).

His agent has been speaking about the move and admitted he was not unhappy at Leicester, but just wanted more regular football.

Football Italia report Daniel Striani as stating:

“We had no doubts.

“We had talks, there are hundreds of those on the last day of the transfer window, it was a negotiation like, like many others.

“It didn’t come up on the last day, there had been interest, it’s not something that was invented on the last day.

“It’s open on both sides, it’s a loan with the right of redemption, we’ll evaluate it at the most appropriate time.”

“Leicester? He worked well, but more importantly Leicester were functioning well. ‘Never change a winning team’, as they say in England.

“It’s hard to make changes when you’re doing so well and the team is top of the League."

The former French under-21 international struggled to make an impact at Leicester. He played just nine times this season with only four of those appearances coming in the Premier League. He has struggled to dislodge the impressive Robert Huth and Wes Morgan from the Leicester back-line and that has seen languish on the sidelines for most of the season whilst the side sit at the top of the table.

Fair play to him, he has 4 substitute appearances, could have gotten 1 more to earn a PL winner's medal, but decided he wanted game time.

Didn't even make the bench for Fiorentina for their 1-1 away draw at Bologna yesterday.

Has this got to do with him registering late? I mean, he was fully fit last time I saw him wearing an LCFC shirt.

Posted

Has not made the starting line up or even the bench for Fiorentina's last two games. Maybe he is injured or lacking fitness.

Also found this article where he has kind words to say about us and realistic about his lack of opportunities at City. Seems to have a good attitude, hope he comes back and fights for his place again after his loan spell.

judging by Ranieri's previous comments, I think he'll be back. And I hope he is. Very good centre half who can play the ball better than the 2 we currently have. I like Benny

Well that backfired. He has had more game time for us this season than at Fiorentina. Can't even make their bench.

He has been injured since he went there, their manager was moaning saying we knew he was unfit when he went there? I find that bizarre to say the least surely they did a medical?
