The Car thread

Recommended Posts

1st Car - Ford Fiesta LX - Great car. Never let me down, got wrote off when a BMW rear ended me on the M6. Boot caved in but no damage to the front. Took the impact brilliantly, for safety I couldn't fault it.

2nd Car - Mazda RX8 - Never again. When it worked it was beautiful to drive but the Wankel engine drinks fuel/oil and in the end I had to scrap it for £300 when it was still on finance. A heavy burden which is now paid off thankfully.

3rd Car - Mazda 6 - Decent enough. smooth to drive but as it was a petrol I was spending too much on fuel getting to and from work.

4th Car - BMW 320D - Great car. Really good on fuel and so far had no problems. Power is always there and mpg is great whether going 60mph or 80mph. I can see why a lot of people drive so fast in them. I try not to be a typical BMW c*** driver :D

On our second X-type too .... Last one was a diesel...Amazing MPG, but didn't seem quite right for a Jaguar.. Bit the bullet and swapped for the current 3.0 4wd. Not very environmentally responsible, but....!!

Can't get better than some good old displacement. I've got a 4L v6 4x4. Goes like stink!!

For the price of a Veyron I'd rather have a Ferrari, Lamborghini and an Aston Martin. :)

Definitely! Although I'd cover all the bases. Which I think my previous list does quite nicely! Mind you, if money really wasn't a problem. I'd throw a Chiron in for good measure, even if it is ugly.

Along with a McLaren for good measure.

I gotta Mazda 3 - its charcoal grey, 5 seats and a good size boot.

Oh and i'm lazy so its also automatic!

Used to have an Mx 5 but im too big/ it was too low. Gave my knee loads of problems when driving - no boot so a pain to take to the supermarket.

If i won the lottery i would buy a fleet of vans in different sizes - Cant beat a van!

People in the know. Why does my ABS light come on when I hit 80mph? Is it some weird Back to the Future feature I wasn't told about when purchasing the car?

Is it going to cost me a fortune to get fixed?

Not if you you get it fixed in 1965.

I think the general run of the mill car is quite non descript and unappealing at the moment.

Going back to the 70's and 80's, escorts, sierras and cavaliers etc had a certain look and appeal about them, yet today's versions are just very dull and functional.

I was a Audi fan, had a TT, S4cab, Q7, A5, but even think they have lost their way and become very dull.

The only cars that look decent at the moment appear to be either very iop end, or the small cars like the Adam, the small Audi or Fiat 500. There are several small cars that are eye catching, but go bigger than that and so very dull.

As an example, I don't even know what a Vecta looks like, or what its replacement is. My neighbour has a Passatt that is the most dull looking car ever, and all Audi do now is made the grills look bigger.,

BMW 3 series used to look decent, but they have fallen into that dull group of non descript cars.

In order & including family cars my wife mostly drives..

Nissan Micra 1983

Peugeot 309 1985

Peugeot 205 1989

Peugeot 309 1993

Ford Focus 2001 (my first and only new car)

Vauxhall Astra 1999

Ford Focus 2002

Honda CRV 2003

Audi A6 Avant 2.7 S Line Quattro 2008 (current weekday car)

Land Rover Discovery 4 HSE 2009 (family car I drive at weekends)

Some miserably dull cars on that list.  Favourite is the Discovery, wonderful all round car, hugely comfortable, loads of space, and looks fab.

On the dream car note, quite enjoyed yesterday seeing a few of the fine Italian automobiles around West Sussex.  Will be getting up close on the Easter weekend in Horsham.

God yes.  Really struggling to find a new car to aspire to buy towards the end of the year.  Wondering about a Jag.

I often wonder where the classics of the future are, apart from the top end cars of course.

I can't imagine young lads in 20 years time aspiring to restore a Skoda Fabia back to its original glory

Theres a dealers in Rutland where they have a McLaren 675 Long tail Special Edition parked next to a Ferrari 458 Speciale ....   both cars just under £400k.

Two very very special cars with the Long tail having the performance of the P1 for a fraction of the cost (watch the video of Chris Harris driving one),  and the 458 Speciale being the best performer that Ferrari have made this side of a La Ferrari, again at a fraction of the cost.    Nice to look at and compare even if you can't afford one !!   If you could have only one I'd have the ..   errr, errr, .....

Used to have a little Ford Ka that was passed down to me by a certain other Foxestalk member, I got stick from my mates but I loved it. Absolute ragged it round in my student days and was never really going fast enough to actually hit anything, it would stop and turn on a sixpence if I needed it to anyway. Then it got what I assumed was a radiator leak and in the space of a 10 minute journey all the coolant fell out and the head gasket blow between two cylinders and I had to scrap it for about £300.

Then I picked up a MK6 Fiesta Zetec S which I still have now, love that as well! Gone through a lot of parts thought thinking about it and I'm just starting to look at getting something a bit bigger and more practical. First choice at the moment is a Alfa 159 TI 1.9 diesel, I know deep down I'll spend a lot fixing it but it's the best looking 'normal' car on the road imo.

Someone's been reading a certain satirical news website...

http://southendnewsnetwork.com/news/m25-operator-to-introduce-toll-charges-from-2017/

I wasn;t sure. I just saw the link and as I do not drive I never checked and opening this thread reminded me of it.

Still it would not surprise me if it did not happen at some point. Reduce cars and better for the environment.

Not good if you drive though..
