The Car thread

Got confirmation my old corsa is a write off so need to look at a new car; looking at a lot of the used websites there's not much in terms of 1.2ltr engines within my price range.

Done forecourts down saffron lane and near the pork pie island with no real luck (few land rover freelanders in my price range but definitely not within insurance range) - anyone know any other good used dealers around the city centre area?

Depending on your budget have you tried DJ Whymans on Aylestone road?

I can vouch for DJ Whyman. They are a proper dealer. Steve Prince over the road too - he used to work for DJ Whyman. TBH most of the dealers on Aylestone Rd are OK. DM me if you want advice on a particular dealer because I used to work with most of them and I can tell you which ones are good eggs and bad eggs.

1st car was my mums old nissan micra, i wrote that off after about 2 years,

replaced with a 1.25 fiesta zetec.

Which then got replaced with a little fiesta van, on my company.

Focus 1.6 again a company car.

Got bored, brought myself a MK 2 Focus St 5-door argued with the wife it was practical has it had 5 doors and a boot.

Eventually she made me replace her cilo with a A3 sportback so the ST had to go, brought a cilo 197 which i hated, kept it for 2 months and spent my time driving round in a 1.6 golf tdi bluemotion, I hate diesels.

Replaced it with a MK3 Focus ST which was just no fun compared to the MK2, quicker yes, but a bit grown up and had no sense of drama. This was financed tho and when we decided to move house it had to go.

ended up back in the Golf diesel

Now have a MK2 focus RS, see a theme here. Waiting to see what the MK3 is like, before I change again.

If money was no object I'd have a Lambo or something like that. A modern one granted.

Next Car, if I can ever afford one, M3 or Nissan GTR.

Never made a penny on any of those cars, biggest waste of money ever, but had fun in most of them. :scarf:

Watch out all Leicester car drivers the LE3 postcode is now a hot spot for crash for cash fraudsters according to the Mercury this morning.  Insurers said that the LE3 postcode came from nowhere to the top 20 for this in the last year and it is not abating.  Its the old slamming on of brakes, you go in the back and then all occupants of the car claim for personal injury.   Watch out for erratic driving in front and be very careful at roundabouts and slip roads.  If it happens to you take plenty of pics on your phone and call the police saying you believe its a crash for cash scam and ask them to get there asap.        (A personal CF tip .....    smack em over the head with a tyre lever and then at least they will have something real to claim for. ).

Best small family car???

Corsa,Fiesta??

Any input anyone

I'm assuming 2nd hand?  I agree with Bryn, can't go wrong with Fiesta.  Mazda 2 is basically same thing.

Ford tend to be a bit optimistic with their fuel economy figures, but main thing is they're not prone to any sort of catastrophic failures (and it's amazing how many cars are), which for people like me that buy cars 2nd hand with a short warranty at best is pretty important

Over the years of owning bm's and Audi,s. Also having them as company cars, bm's are generally better, but My fav has been the Audi A5. Also, Audi specs are better, and BMW are the worst company to deal with

Must disagree with you there Doc ....   BMW ain't too bad but ...    MERCEDES are THE worst to deal with by country (fox) mile.

BMW's after service was awful when I bought my car from them. Could never get through to the salesman I wanted, never returned my calls, didn't reply to my E-mails.

My mum went to test drive a Mercedes on a Saturday they told her they were busy so booked her in for the next day. Sunday she turned up and they said they had made a mistake and hadn't booked her in. Told her to come back the following weekend, she never bothered turning up.

I suppose we agree and disagree, Merc went through a franchise buyout a few years ago and since have struggled but compare BMW with Audi, Audi wins for service and support.

I've got a Merc at the moment, no issues so far, in fact, the tech in the car is well behind Audi interms of user experience, but ride is excellant

Servicing; BMW were OK but nothing impressive. This week 1st service my for my Audio (Audi)

They will collect it from my place of work at 8.30 as the local dealer is15 minutes away and return it before 5.00. "Great".

What actually happened was they didn't come to collect so I rang at 10.30 as they had forgot; then when they arrived I stated must be back by 5 as I have to drive back to Leicester.

At 5.30 I rang and they assured me they were on the way.

Repeat with a strong tone at 6.00

Repeat with a few f' words at 6.30

Repeat at 7.00 pleading in the most humble begging manner.

Repeat at 7.30 to leave a message on their answer phone.

8.00 taxi arrives to take me back to Leicester.

9.30 cram down 4 cans of larger and go to bed angry.

Next day I finally turn up directly to the Audi garage to listen to the car was delivered but no one was there ect..but here is your bill.

Straight to my car to turn on my dashcam recording.

It was driven into the workshop for 6 minutes then reversed back out to the car park and never moved an inch after that.

Company car drivers: don't choose a new Audi!

That's disgraceful.

Hope you will be taking this further and showing them your evidence that they didn't do the work they have tried to charge your company for.

I did. And the response was apologetic corporate b*lls.

(behind the scenes apparently everyone who works for Audi is pissed off). My MD was livid and has vowed never to get a fleet of Audis again, which he buys outright for him, his wife, me the other 2 reps, the factory manager and the owner and his wife.

He also found a private service company that specialise in Audis.

I know its all down to what you have experienced but overall my dealings with BMW in Leicester have been brilliant and I was very very well looked after ...    I got to know two people there and they sorted everything for me.    I've had no dealings with Audi but from what Boosy (Great Boos Up) says they don't sound too clever.   As for Mercedes they are CR@P !    I bought a new car from them many moons ago and when I went to pick it up after a long wait it was not what I ordered !!   Fookin amazing !   They gave me a free service though !?!?  I have been back since to have two jobs done to a car that was still under warranty and when I picked it up one fault was still there and the other hadn"t even been looked at !!   "Thats another department bring it back another time for that "  they said !!   They are the pits but I've got to be careful what I say as they STILL haven't sorted things out yet.
