Are Manchester City still in the Title Race?

Recommended Posts

During the whole season, Manchester City have been very inconsistent. They have the best squad in the leauge however they they are struggling to beat teams way worse than them, even though they have toons more money than most of the teams in the leauge. No disrespect to Norwich but Manchester City should of won today with the squad they have. They didn't even score a goal, and it's not like Norwich have the best defence. Do you think Manchester City are still in the title race?

I'd say probably not.  Personally, if we were to win just 3 or 4 of our remaining 9, that would mean Man City would need to win 7 or 8 of their 9 to catch us.  The problem with this is, if we did only win 3 ro 4, Spurs would likely be the side to benefit from that more than Man City.

Yes, they're still in it.

9pts behind us

4pts behind Tottenham.

If we blow up it's still wide open and you can't discount us making a mess of it. As brilliant as we've been this season we could revert to what people expect our level to be. It's not like we're a Barcelona, PSG, Bayern or even one of the big English teams in our position, we're still somewhat of an unknown quantity. Are we the one of the best sides in England or a mid table team performing way above expectation?

I'm pretty down on us generally but we're quite clearly "one of the best sides in England". I doubt any side outside of us, Man United, Man City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool have taken 82 points from any 38 game period in the last 20 years.

The only question is whether we are the best side in England.

I hope you're right.

Do you think we will be title challengers next season? Not just top six but real title challengers?

Well this is rubbish, if you take the back end of last season into account we've had a 38 game period where we've been 11 points better than the 2nd best team.

We could blow up, but you can't say we're performing above ourselves like our form is some sort of fluke.

We're seriously in the driving seat now and it's going to take a huge turnaround in ours and Man City's form for them to be considered a serious threat. In all likelihood, they won't catch us now.

Honestly, no. But like I say I'm quite down on us. And right now it's clear that we're one of the best sides in the country.

Yeah, I think so. The last two times they won the title they practically came from nowhere to win it.

Not the same team now though?

We win Monday and I think they're out of it!

Spine of the team is relatively the same... Hart, Kompany, Aguero.

Yes, they are. Any squad which has the quality, which they have, could go on to win 9 in a row. This is the point which CR is making. He's right. This is the difference when you're battling for a title and scrapping to beat relegation. The quality of the teams around you. The mind set has to be different.

They missed Kompany but I think they're really missing De Bruyne. They shoud have opened Norwich up.

I think it is us and Tottenham now.

I don't think you fully grasped my post.

Bayern Munich are 5pts clear in the Bundesliga but everyone expects them to win it easily as the quality of there team is widely accepted as being world class.

We've been brilliant now for just under a year. Are we one of the top ten club sides in the world and are performing to our level this season or are we just a mid table PL side performing way above expectation or somewhere between the two? If we aren't a top class team then we might start performing to our level for the last 9 games and pick up about 12pts which probably won't be enough to win the title.

Are these players top quality players or just over performing?

Schmeichel

Simpson

Morgan

Huth

Fuchs

Okazaki

Albrighton

They are still in it but will have to go on a run similar to their start of the season. They've not won two matches in a row since October.

Of course not. 9 behind with 9 to play is a incredibly tough task, win as we're expected Monday and it's 12. That's further behind than we were to survival at this point last year where no one in their right mind would have given us a chance. Arsenal at eight back are similar out of it if we win Monday - it's a two horse race between us and spurs.
