Leicester, Watford and the Community Shield

Recommended Posts

Don't know if anyone here has listened to this, but Danny Mills thinks that a Leicester v Watford Community Shield fixture (which is wholly possible), could be harmful for English football.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b073b19j - start around 2:32:00 onwards.

I'm personally hoping this fixture takes place, just for hilarious comments like these to come out.

What an idiot, got no idea what point he's trying to make. Just comes across as bitter.

Is that joey Barton whos on with him ?

What's harmful for British football is the pathetic attitude of so many that we have exposed. So many loser mentalities in this country.

Yeah it is Joey Barton - who to be honest is starting to really come across as a great pundit, he really knows his stuff.

Not just England alone, it's like that everywhere now because of us.... and i love it! haha

This is what English football has become... The obsession with power and reputation. The media want the bigger clubs to succeed. I can only guess it's because it makes the Premier League look better.

I would love it if West Ham got into the Champions League as well as us. Watch everybody kick off.

Same here. Ever since it's become obvious they cannot catch us I've been firmly behind them.

Yeah he seems quite intelligent, if you listen on for a little bit he starts ripping into mills about how he shouldn't be on the FA advisory panel

cant be arsed to listen but why did he think it would be harmful?

Danny Mills believes that a Leicester v Watford Community Shield would be less lucrative financially, and would attract less of a global audience, when teams like Manchesters United and City could bring both in quite considerably. He also goes on to say that Leicester wouldn't be able to be competitive in the Champions League because they are Leicester (again, at the expense of bigger, richer clubs).

This backs up my point.

The obsession with money, power and reputation in football is awful.

It's an interesting debate, but Mills so far hasn't let Barton make his point.

Mills says that the PL ignored all their proposals, I'm not surprised if Ferdinand, Mills and Hoddle turned up claiming to know all about grass roots football I would laugh at them, but the FA appointed them because they are famous ex footballers.

It's a shame he doesn't go onto to say that appointing Mills, Ferdinand, Hoddle is being blinded by names in the same way we are in the premier league. Pundits can't see past the name, Man U, Arsenal, Man City are seen as good times because of their name, we aren't. Man City and Chelsea haven't always been a big name, they have bought that status, for some reason that is more deserving than earning it on the pitch by developing a squad over time.

They completely miss the point of what it takes to become a good side.

They think money is the answer to absolutely everything in football.

Spent £50mil this summer, didn't work? Well we need to spend another £50mil then, rather than looking at where we went wrong with the initial £50mil.

Clubs in this country should learn from what we've done rather than ridicule it, but they won't because they're deluded.

Barton is always worth a listen, he seems to be a very good pundit.

One of the best about, without a shadow of a doubt in my eyes. Always speaks sense (bar the infamous Neymar tweet lol)

Oh no.... loads of glory hunters in Africa won't want to watch a game. Who gives a shit, why on earth is an average ex footballer like Mills caring about the financial aspect / viewing figures of a game.

The people who want to watch Arsenal and United only do so because they win stuff. If we did well over a number of years, we'd build a similar fan base. They don't give a monkeys who is is they support, they just latch on to winners.

What would be the problem? I think the fans of the clubs involved would love it (our first trip to the new Wembley) and it's a different game from the usual Arsenal v Man City, Chelsea v Man City type games.

Prats like Mills have been conditioned to expect the same and anything different is worse.

Also where are all these comments about West Ham doing badly in the Champions League? Not seen one of them, all I've seen is how great it would be for the hammers to get into the top 4.

Even Spurs for that matter, trounced by Dortmund, very little CL experience in the squad, can't even beat Leicester, yet nobody is questioning how they will do.

I'm starting to like Joey, he's a very good pundit, a bit like Gary Neville.

Danny Mills though is a twat

I'm warming to Barton, seems to be very vocal in sticking up for the less glamourous clubs and isn't swept along by the brand being affected and all that crap.
