Walsh and Shakespeare to sign new deals to 2018

Not fact yet, but Being reported in Daily Mail online...excellent news if true.

Leicester City are to receive a significant boost this week with Claudio Ranieri’s two key assistants set to sign new contracts.

Head of recruitment Steve Walsh and coach Craig Shakespeare will commit to the club until 2018 after agreeing improved terms.

The duo have played huge roles in Leicester’s incredible rise towards the Premier League title, which continued against Crystal Palace on Saturday with a fourth 1-0 win in their last five games.

Ranieri’s role in negotiations between Walsh, Shakespeare and the club illustrates his own commitment to Leicester amid interest from Italy for the soon-to-be-vacant national job.

Walsh was key to the signings of Riyad Mahrez, Jamie Vardy and N’Golo Kante, and Arsenal had been keen to add him to their recruitment staff at the Emirates.

Shakespeare takes a leading role in training sessions and his good humour and intelligent instructions make him a popular figure among the players.

Two of Walsh’s signings combined for the decisive goal at Selhurst Park. Vardy’s low cross was his 14th assist since the start of last season, more than any other Englishman, and Mahrez’s finish was his 16th Premier League strike of the campaign.

One goal was enough as Leicester kept yet another clean sheet and extended Palace’s win-less league run to 13 games.

‘We have that no-nonsense approach,’ said right back Danny Simpson. ‘We don’t mind booting it into row Z. We don’t try to mess about. We make it as difficult as we can for the opponents. We love defending, we love clean sheets.’

Leicester’s fans sang about winning the league for 20 minutes straight after the final whistle, prompting the Selhurst Park announcer to ask them to leave.

If true this is great and sends a great message to the players with the Don saying last week he's going nowhere. You keep doing what your doing on the pitch and everything is secure behind you.

Really hope this is true.

Perfect timing if this happens as NP is looking odds on to take the Villa job.

Wise words CF, he'd be the best man for getting them out of League 1...

His previous successes count for nothing if he doesn't have Walsh & Shakespeare with him, potentially like Clough without Taylor.

And when they are in League 1 dad might give little Jimmy a game .....     but then again ....    perhaps if they drop to League 2  ......        ;)

They officially signed this weekend, Pearson wanted them to go Boro with him if the chance arose

Twitter says they hope to have them signed up by weekend

However - fact remains that even if they are signed to a contract, they can still resign. Having them on a decent wedge means we are due a decent amount of compensation if they decide to go elsewhere next January if things aren't going so well here.

The rumours earlier this season were that their bonus for us staying up this campaign were so big that another club wouldn't compensate them if they left us.

They are pros. At the moment they seem to enjoy it here. Rewarding them with big contracts makes sense now. But it doesn't tie them in - just makes it less likely that they will go elsewhere in the short term because the cost of taking them from us would be too high.
