Richard Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 His role is to block the passing routes into midfield from the centre back and right back. His positioning in this sense is superb and Claudio has to take a lot of credit for it. He blocks the easy pass into midfield and forces the ball long or forces a riskier pass. If he was sprinting into the channels every five minutes we lose this structure and allow teams to build.
Sampson Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 He's played well the past few weeks even though the goals have dried up. But he's turned into the Vardy of last season again when he was creating a lot, so his lack of goals haven't been too big a deal when he's been creating plenty.

Despite as mentioned he hasn't scored for a while, the positive of this situation is that he is still contributing to the team, through assists.
Matt Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 He's not right imo. He didn't look right against Newcastle, he wasn't his usual sprinting self, ducked out of a couple of attacks/tackles, walked back after an attack, and i'm sure I saw him rubbing his thigh/hamstring. He's either knackered - Which is fully understandable, or carry a slight injury/knock. Could have done without the call up to England tbh, but he probably won't feature in Woy's plans too much anyway, so he just needs to take it fairly easy in training and smile making jokes behind Woy's back with Drinky on the bench.
coolhandfox Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 Always going to happen, teams are more aware of him and how we play! We are also more conservative in the way we have played in the second half of the season! When he gets one, more will follow!
brockmyster Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 It could be a possibility that he's watching himself to make it through this season etc especially with the euros, I have noticed that since his return from surgery he rarely does his mad 40 yard runs before diving in two footed to tackle someone, lacking pashun, sell him first thing....
Babylon Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 Been thinking the same, especially the last few games. The closing down, chasing lost causes, runs in behind have been noticeably restrained.
ithuriel Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 Maybe he should put his name to an aftershave and call it Pashun
biggs Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 Thought the same for a couple of games but now thinking it could just be the opposition we've been up against lately. Style change as we have had more possession than usual. Vardy always appears to take a little time adapting. He's just waiting for the bigger teams which he'll destroy.
Soar Fox Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 Just listening now to the Monday night club and Chris Sutton is convinced that Hodgson won't take Vardy to the euros. I'm not bothered about England at all, especially whilst Hodgson is in charge so hopefully he doesn't take him and he has a full summer to recover.

I'm not bothered about England at all, especially whilst Hodgson is in charge so hopefully he doesn't take him and he has a full summer to recover. Couldn't agree more. I've gone from berrating Woy for taking so long to pick him, give him his chance, to realising Woy won't play him so i'd rather he doesn't play/be selecting for England at the Euros. And i'm with Sutton, i'm convinced Vardy won't be going, he should be, but quite confident he won't.

Sutton thinks he should go but said its easier to leave out unfashionable Vardy from Leicester rather than dropping someone like Welbeck or Sturridge.
filbertway Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 I'd have Kane and Welbeck ahead of Vardy. I'd have Sturridge ahead as well if his legs weren't made of glass. Vardy would only be useful in the latter stages when we're sitting deep and looking to counter. Welbeck is just as fast though and is in better form at the minute. Summer off would probably do him some good to be honest. With Drinky though, I'm struggling to think of another central midfielder that plays for england that is as dynamic and playing as well as him at the minute.
blueharmie Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 Let Vardy rest up. England are a joke anyway. Will never win anything... Ever.
Meltonfossefox Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 Like the rest of the team he has intelligently changed his game, yes running at teams at a 100 mph and outscoring Teams while conceeding was entertaining, but this entire team has changed the way it's played of late, we concede less and it's worked just like champions of older late. The pace we started the season with was never sustainable without injuries therefore we've adapted just as vardy has. Personally I think he's performed well 7+ out of 10 for a while it's just a different approach. imo anyway
Stevosevic Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 If he takes 5 strikers surely Walcott sits at home?
fuchsntf Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 This worry over Vardy, brings up all mixture of cocktail theories. He might not chase down into the corners or lost causes. He might not do it as much, but in every game since his short rest, there have been in every game where he has chased the ball down. Out of coincidence, I watched game replays to see if he had been pulling back. No!! 2-3 times in a game at least he goes on the prowl, or decides to go for a run. The cover has improved, but he has still got himself into good postions. Maybe he tries different timings on his runs, though Mahrez and he did that in the prolific period, and had mishaps. He hasnt scored at the same pace, but his danger game is still there, he still has chances. Like Kane coming back from knocks,at the beginning, the inner greed, not the work rate, might just not be there. He could be pacing his game and the run in, the coaching staff/Claudio might have, dropped suggestions. Or our opposition have cut down on Vardys % game, by keeping pace, knowing it wont stop him having scoring chances, but give less time on pulling the trigger. Kane is a worthy opponent, these PL players dont just compete, they can an do learn from each other.Lets see if Vardy can push his game to the fore, before EOS, if he only scores 5 goals in a winning cause, or makes the assists, hes done his job.
Vardinio'sCat Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 He isn't pressing like he was, but I think the coaching staff will know that better than us. I think there might be a tactical element, but if that's the case, why is Shinji constantly trying to press, whilst Vardy is looking less interested? So my money is that they are 'managing' JV, as they clearly are with N'golo. Fuchs is looking a bit off as well, but I guess we will find out the details soon enough. At least Riyad seems OK!
ARM1968 Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 Yeah Vardy is still working very hard, just not scoring. Possibly true that teams have worked out how to deal with him. Shame if true as they don't appear to have worked Kane out. However I expect JV to bag again soon, he's too good not to.
Bamba's Babes Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 Vardy is contributing just fine, the goals will return.

Danny Welbeck? Scored against us, that Welbeck? Genuinely gobsmacked. Welbeck's ok, but he's playing for Arsenal, so all his muscles have been replaced with 20 year old rubber bands now, and anything out of the ordinary he might once have tried will have been coached out of him. And Vardy's a terrier, having the season of his life, who no one in international football (except Austria, and France if NGolo plays) will have experienced before.
Babylon Posted 22 March 2016 Posted 22 March 2016 Anyone know a website where you can get the distance covered stats, number of sprints and so on?
LennonLover Posted 22 March 2016 Posted 22 March 2016 Anyone know a website where you can get the distance covered stats, number of sprints and so on? WhoScored is the best of the free ones, according to my (quite limited) investigations: https://www.whoscored.com/Regions/252/Tournaments/2/England-Premier-League
Dames Posted 22 March 2016 Posted 22 March 2016 Personally I think he's being managed through games and is under strict instruction not to over do it. I think being rushed back from the operation with little recovery time has had something to do with this. Also with the Euros not far off now JV will be desperate not to injure himself just in case he gets the call after all its probably his only chance to represent England at a major international tournament.
