Wes Morgan - the transformation

Recommended Posts

Anyone recall the away game at Forest in 2011: 2-2, with Schmeichel sent off by our dear friend John Moss?!

Poor old Wes, who was playing for Forest at the time, looked overweight and a bit of a donkey to be honest. What a transformation in the space of five years - well done Wes!

Moss is certainly up there as one the worst referees I've ever seen. All he wants to do is make sure HE is the highlight of games. Can't believe he is allowed to referee non league matches, yet alone P/L matches.

As for Morgan. How did we ever pay £1m for him?! He was a carthorse! Just shows how good our scouting staff were for seeing such potential, and to our coaching staff for turning him into the player he has now become. He should be forever grateful to them for rescuing his career.

Didn't he just make Championship Team of the Year the season before? Think that was the season Forest finished 3rd under Billy Davies.

Think people are being a bit harsh calling him a cart horse at Forest. From what I remember he'd just had a fantastic season the previous season but got injured and dropped in form a bit when we signed him. The season afterwards he was utterly immense and won our player of the season award and made Championship Team of the Year again.

Integral to the club's success. Leads and organises the team. Great defender.

All I remember from that game is Gelson Fernandes looking so ****ing good.

Yeah that game. Decidedly average in the rest

Completely forgot Moss was the ref in that game. I remember being absolutely livid after that match, wondering what we had to do to win at the City ground. What a **** he was and still is.

Thanks for the vid - that's my morning ruined  ;)

I think I'll be able to watch that vid again in 60 years and still be fuming. To this day I've no idea how Moss can justify either of those crazy decisions - the penalty or the 2nd yellow for Kaspar.

Mills is on the floor and has no idea where the ball is.

And what is the second yellow for?

Is it dissent? No

Is it violent? No

Is it time wasting? No, because there's 20 mins left and Kaspar throws it towards the centre circle and the game is stopped anyhow!

Like I literally have no idea what it's for.

You hear about players 'seeing red' and losing it, but I genuinely think Jon Moss lost it in that moment and was just pissed off with the Leicester players and especially Kaspar. You can see that Moss is just so arrogant, just pointing to the bench and repeatedly telling Schmeichel, simply "Off!"

What a cvnt!

Also my memories of this game are made worse by the bungled reporting of it, to me, from my brother. I was in France at the time and couldn't get any updates, so my brother was texting me. I got the 2 about our goals....

Hooray we were 2-0 up away at Forest and heading for our first win there in 35+ years!

Call him at FT to have a quick celebratory chat, and he tells me he forgot to text me the rest and that the goalie got sent off, we conceded a pen and ended up throwing away the win!  :o

Now they've got Matt Mills lol (though he's scored a couple for them).

They've got Jack Hobbs and Matty Fryatt as well. I liked Hobbs. Sad to see his career stalled and in the wilderness at the moment.

He'd been in the championship team of the season for several years running an Forest had done alright with him. His last season there they were shit, but they'd been in the play offs for a few season before that I think.

Forest were good the season before. They lost to Swansea in the play offs but they gradually turned shit. Morgan was a decent at that level but he was improved massively now. His positional sense and tactical awareness is a million times better than what he used to be just a few years ago.

I'd never really followed Morgan before he joined us. He must have lost 3 stone between that match and his first match for us! He looked very slow and it looked like he gave up with our first goal in that clip. There is no question his move to us did his career a power of good. And no question that our coaching, plus playing alongside Huth and Wasyl turned him a top player.

Fox92 is correct in saying he's improved playing alongside Huth, PL experience. They help each other in matches, but Wes having a partnership with someone who's played at that level for years must of been a great boost for him.

definitely, remember how seemingly out of his depth he was last year with Moore next to him? It's actually quite insane the progression from that point.

Credit to Ranieri for this too. He's made the defence and whole team in general excellently organised and more tactially excelled. The back four's positional sense is great.
