Has the format spoiled the tournament?

With the introduction of best 3rd place finishes have we seen a more cagey group stage than usual. There have been

quite a few low scoring games and Slovakia proved last night that teams will park the bus to gain a passage through via 3rd place

Narh, you always get games in tournaments when teams park the bus and only need a point.

There's been cagey games and there's been good games. It's only just getting started really.

I've enjoyed it so far.

Wales aside how many other games were crackers ??

A couple ? I think the standard of play across the board has been poor quality entertainment

Lots of tension and your own team there Doing well might be clouding your judgment a tiny bit

Yeah definitely, the quality of some games has been horrific and even I've turned over some games.

16 from 24 going through is barmy.

One way to solve it...

Invite more countries so only two go through again \o/ \o/

Negative..slovakia and n ireland playing for a draw to finish 3rd in last games

Positive..most teams still in with a chance in last game

This 3rd place thing does seem a little strange but I do like having an extra round in the knockout stage. Makes the tournament last a bit longer as the Euro's have always seemed too short compared to a World Cup.

I've really enjoyed the tournament even with Roy ruining England. Admittedly a savagely competitive fantasy team league with my friends and being on holiday as made it much better for me personally.

No complaints.

What it has done is spoil my betting. I've been naive mostly as I've gone on too many btts.

The teams have been incredibly defensive and there have been so few goals overall it's been quite unbelievable.

I've enjoyed the tournament (it's football at the end of the day) but so far it's been generally of a poor standard.

The knock outs will liven things up, UNLESS many teams are so cagey they play to go to extra time etc.

For there to be goals in the knockout games, there must be an earlyish goal from one of the teams.

To be fair a lot of the games have been like watching paint dry. The third place incentive does not work as it just creates cagey games.

Copy the same format as the world cup.

The top 3 thing is rubbish, it adds uncertainty. Games like this one where Northern Ireland are not really bothered about equalising because they know a narrow defeat will probably be enough.

yep, finishing 3rd out of 4, losing 2 games out of 3 and perhaps still going through?  That can't be a good thing.

It is what it is I guess however the fact that Albania have to sit around for 4 days and could then end up on a plane home is a bit of a piss take.

the extra teams is cool but the way they're going through is a bit shit. not sure of a better way to turn 24 into 16 without some mad play off situation which is probably not fair to add an extra game in, though.

but the fact 0-1, 0-1, 1-0 almost deffo has you through is a bit gay, as slovakia/norn ireland etc have shown.

Better idea would be put the top 2 through, and give byes to the best 4 group winners.
