Cus apparently my dad's family came over from that region a few hundred years ago .... Funnily enough have got over the defeat this morning. Now my mums from Scotland and her ancestors apparently were Vikings so I now support Iceland .... Not sure how many Walloons were in their side: Hazard, Courtois, Meunier....any others? Judging from their names, most of the rest would be of immigrant stock (though maybe also from Wallonia) or Flemings (Aldeweireld, Witsel, De Bruyne, Mertens...?) You might have been cheering on the Walloons' worst enemy: Flanders! A few years back, my Dad got some weird medical complaint affecting the tendons of his hand - and was told it was a genetic condition specific to people of Viking heritage....so I'll be with you supporting Iceland (though didn't the Vikings originally come from Scandinavia, not Iceland?) - and Wales, as a bastard Celt.

Wales winning Euro 2016 would be a huge achievement yes, but they've only beaten one good team so far in Belgium (who had an off night), and with a poor Portugal side in the semi's they could conceivably win the cup having only beaten two good teams. Hardly the same as us winning the PL over 38 games and 9 months of football. Yeh agreed. They do deserve great credit but our achievement is out on it's own and nothing to do with wales yet you know they will always be mentioned together if they managed to win it. Some twat will ask 'which was the bigger fairytale?' Or some bollocks and we'll have to see Gareth bale's face on everything to do with the sporting year of 2016.

ScouseFox Posted 2 July 2016 Posted 2 July 2016 if they had more likeable players it would be easier to like them. bale, ramsey, joe Ledley, williams, gunter, hennesey etc etc are all absolute cu nts of the highest order. luckily kingy an joe Allen will make their semi much more likeable but then actually a bit sad when they obviously lose. ah well. also yeah it is a bit annoying that they've only played one good team and lost and have only played well in one game and people are chatting like they're brazil 1970/real galacticos/us last year but what you gonna do. nobody remembers second place or semi finalists so when they don't win it and it all goes down in history as basically pointless we can all carry on as normal, forgetting wales is even a place.

I saw it as attempt at humour rather an any serious analysis of our victory over Number 2 side in the world that had just thrashed Hungary, to reach the semifinal of a major tournament.

AyewJoking Posted 3 July 2016 Posted 3 July 2016 dont like wales obviously but credit where its due. they have gone further in their first tournament since dragons really existed than england have for 20 years and we're in almost every one! part of me wants to see them destroyed in the semi's but it will be a guilty pleasure watching them get to the final and even win it. as for their team, some talented individuals in there but the whole team works together and they have belief and we know how far that can take you. good luck for the rest of the tournament wales
