Cats (The Musical)

Recommended Posts

The other half has always loved the musical Cats, she has it on dvd and its been a life long dream of hers to see the stage show, so i surprised her on saturday night and took her to Nottingham to see it.

I've tried watching the DVD with her a few times but i just don't get it. I like to think of myself as reasonably intelligent and cultured, and i've been to several different musicals and enjoyed them all, but Cats is just awful. The storyline is total bollocks and the songs are nonsense. The only positive i have about it was that the music was upbeat and catchy.

It's an experience i hope i never have to endure again, and was quite possibly the most boring and confusing night of my entire life.

Is there anyone on here who can help me out and explain why there is such a massive global demand for this pile of crap? and what is the story actually about?? All i got from it was that there are some cats with ridiculous names who all want to go to some sort of cat heaven and be reborn. is that all there is to it?

Each song is describing a specific cat in the group. The whole musical is about 1 cat who isn't accepted into the group but in the end they welcome the cat in.

mungo jerrie and rumple teaser are both cats who play tricks, macavity is sly there is a cat who is a ladies man etc. So each song is that cat showing what they are about.

I only know this cause my daughter did her dance performance in July with her dance group. Brilliant performance of cats.

It really is a bizarre musical. I don't get why it's so huge. Then again I'm not a musical lover.

"Boring" and "confusing", adjectives left off the promotional posters simply through oversight, I expect.

If I had a pound for every time somebody said to me, 'well it may sound like complete shit but actually it's amazing', I'd probably be on the way to being able to afford a ticket.

I consider these people peddlers of dangerous whimsy and It's thanks to good folk like you that the risks of being persuaded to go along to these things in a weak moment are minimised

Ive seen a lot of theatre. West end to local drama. Cats is without doubt the biggest pile of sh1t I've ever seen.

Shouldn't this be in the gin thread?

Better still the camping thread.

I saw it at De Montfort Hall a few years back and I echo the comments of all the above. I seem to remember after the interval the cast came from the back through the audience to the stage, I think some rubbed themselves cat like against some patrons and one might even have had his nose licked.

 All a bit uncomfortable

The theatre is bleak as, my missis took me to see some shit called 'Bird Song'. It was without doubt the most depressing shit i have ever seen.

I liked AvenueQ though, Matt Stone and Trey Parkers take on the muppets.

And We will Rock you was good.

I spent most of it very confused because I was expecting there to be a plot.

The interval came and went and still there was no plot. Then about 25 minutes in to the second half Mr Mistofolees came on and minced about for 10 minutes. Then I fell asleep.

Worst thing I've ever paid to see and I saw us under Megson.

I went to watch Sweeney Todd (film) without realising it was a musical. 6 songs in first 20 minutes, so I gave up and left.

Imagine my mate's horror when he found that out about Frozen.

Mind you, I really like Frozen

Bloody hell. My missus dragged me along to the cinema to watch a Pirates of the Caribbean film once. Amazingly we are still together

Invited my gf at the time to watch a Leicester game and she asked if she could bring a book.

We are not still together.
