LanguedocFox Posted 3 August 2016 Posted 3 August 2016 I only saw the second half. I thought Musa looked a class act, and Okazaki was very impressing alongside him. Drinkwater gets better all the time (FFS sign him on a better contract) and I liked Schlupp's commitment, though he does need to calm down a bit and not miss-place passes. Still, I thought it was an all-round good performance. I can't wait for the start of the season.
Corky Posted 3 August 2016 Posted 3 August 2016 Cracking game, second half was excellent, thoroughly enjoyable stuff and respectability in the end.

Yes could be strengthened in places but it's about balance and maintaining the spirit. Any additional signings have to have that ethos. Looks to me Musa, Hernandez. Mendy and Kapustka understand our way.
Babylon Posted 3 August 2016 Posted 3 August 2016 Amartey or Simpson? I think Amartey adds a different dimension going forward, he uses the ball so well. Albrighton or Gray? Gray again adds a different dimension going forward, got much more skill about him. But Albrighton great work ethic and gives solid performances most games. Okazaki or Musa? Okazaki's link up play was sensational this game and Musa was brilliant. Gonna be a tough call up front. Fuchs or Chilwell? Chilwell has a lot to learn in his positioning. We could you a few changes to the main starting 11 as the season progresses.
Buzzell Posted 3 August 2016 Posted 3 August 2016 Musa's pace is unbelievable. Seems his finishing is top notch also.
foxes_rule1978 Posted 3 August 2016 Posted 3 August 2016 We actually went toe to toe with barca and can feel unfortunate to have lost that one. Impressive signings as well
Guest Col city fan Posted 3 August 2016 Posted 3 August 2016 I think it's simple. Play like we did first half, on Sunday, we'll get tanked. Play like we did second half, it could be a cracking game. Gotta sort out the midfield...Drinkwater looks class, the others look a mis-match of players who aren't sure what their roles are. King, James, Mendy (so far) are much of a muchness I think.

Well yes, of course they are, especially if they get Bobby M in to replace Bernard Cribbins. No need to be negative though. Tonight was good practice for playing against Dull's tippy-tappy short passing possession-based game.
Max Power Posted 3 August 2016 Posted 3 August 2016 Couple of the unheralded Musa moments in a highlight packed 45 were the backheel volley lay off to Shinji and when he absolutely rinsed their left back and fired a nice low cross in.

ALC Fox Posted 3 August 2016 Posted 3 August 2016 Excellent couple of goals from Musa. Delighted for him after the miss vs PSG. Very encouraging second half. Practice makes perfect.
Corky Posted 3 August 2016 Posted 3 August 2016 They just punish virtually every mistake. Simpson only slightly switched off for the first goal yet the pass was perfect and the run was spot on. Most sides don't possess that potency. I liked the way we tried to build attacks rather than just hoof it clear all the time.
TJB-fox Posted 3 August 2016 Posted 3 August 2016 Got a feeling players like Okazaki(not so much), Mendy, Hernandez Musa are going to be better and more suited to the CL this year against European teams

Did the same down the right as well when he skimmed them and got a good ball in. Seems decent off both feet!

Couldn't have put it better myself! Lots of things to be excited about after that. Plenty to improve, but its a friendly and it's against Barcelona! Good displays from many and in Musa we really do have another member of the RAF!

Trying not to get overly excited after 45 minutes in a pre season friendly but he looks the absolute business and completely perfect for us and the way we play.
Thracian Posted 3 August 2016 Posted 3 August 2016 We've certainly signed one quality player. Musa was burning hot. His two goals were the kind of gems very few players could have scored, he might have had a penalty, harsh though it would have been and he was a constant danger. Pace, control, balance, attitude....what an acquisition. Second half too we played some excellent, thoughtful football. It still concerns me though that we've conceded eight goals in two games and not all of them to the opposition being among the top teams in the world. There was clumsiness and slackness involved too and the remaining problem of who the hell takes Kante's place. Mahrez is good but replaceable. Kante exceptional and all but impossible to replace, let alone better. Somehow when there are gaps in oiur defence now, some opponent goes through them whereas before, there weren't so many gpas and Kante was always on hand to provide assistance. Altogether some promising signs though and a couple of goals plus other chances against a side of their calibre is not discouraging. Time to put it all together now against United.
GaelicFox Posted 3 August 2016 Posted 3 August 2016 Musa tore barca apart he is going to enjoy the premier league ! Please god I hope he hasn't a silly release clause !
Guest Col city fan Posted 3 August 2016 Posted 3 August 2016 Suppose it don't need saying, but Barce are a lovely side to watch. Some of their passing is sublime. Suarez is clearly insane, but is an exquisite footballer and in young Munir they are bringing through their next prodigious young striker. HOWEVER, they are still defensively all over the place. If we played them on a wet Weds night in front of a packed KP I genuinely think we could give them a really close game.
Max Power Posted 3 August 2016 Posted 3 August 2016 I can understand shipping goals to PSG and Barca in pre season. They are obviously on a different level technically, plus we aren't quite 100% fit so chasing the Barca shadows is even more draining. Also, you aren't going to press with the same intensity and fly into big challenges in a friendly game. I'm more interested (and encouraged) with our work with the ball. We have created plenty of chances against both teams and look to have new weapons and new ways to hurt teams whilst keeping our direct, pacy style.
