De Laet joins Aston Villa on a permanent deal

He's a Premier League winner. He played a part in the great escape. He got us promoted.

Although I hate Villa, I have to wish him good luck.

He was by far the best entry in the "players names that are food" thread a few years ago ("Time for some Angel DeLaet!").

For that, and the goals/assists others have mentioned, he goes with our good wishes and, if ever he comes back, just like and Nugent and Moore, he should be applauded.

I'm sorry to see De Laet go, because I thought he was a good player. The day after my 70th birthday last year, I sat in the bar on a Spanish campsite (long story) and watched the comeback against Villa at home, with RDL scoring the first of our three goals. I love his fighting spirit, which is something Villa have conspicuously lacked for years. He'll be good for them.

Spot on. Compare that to the post earlier simply saying 'he's shite' and we're getting somewhere.

He was a major part of gettingus promoted and keeping us up and played a part of us taking the title. Can't ask for more than that. Thanks for everything Ritchie. xoxoxoxo

if so thats good business as he is shit

He's obviously not shit, he's a solid top-end championship right back and could cope lower end of prem with the right system. That system isn't ours and where we're going he's not up to scratch, but he's not shit - Alan maybury was shit.

He's a fine acquisition for Villa. Wish him all the best.

That pass in the Man U game......

Good luck Richie, all the best.

Best wishes to Ritchie from this part of the world, as well.

Very loyal servant to the club, never heard anything bad or unprofessional about him. Kept his head down even in times of trouble and was there when called upon.

Villa have gotten themselves a really good deal here, probably one of the best wing-backs in the league atm. Very good acceleration, decent in defending and with the odd moment of genius going forward.

I suppose he's going Birmingham so they don't have to fear him scoring against them any longer. :D

Great post and this is a good summary of Ritchie. He's very useful in his wingback play, the ability to get forward and defend. Villa are getting themselves a very good squad together, and De Laet adds to that.

No he isn't but your post is.

Are you on drugs?!

If we had persisted with him at RB we would have NEVER won the league. Whilst he has pace he has the premiership defensive capability of a wet paper bag.

Exposed virtually everytime.

One of those players where I'm a little sad to see them move on (a la Knockaert and Nugent), but I guess it's best for all parties.

I hope he does well at Villa, certainly a great player for any championship side.

Sad to see him leave but best for both parties.

Served the club well, especially in the championship... Maybe Premier league is a step to far? But certainly a quality RB to have in the championship, his got to somehow replace Hutton now though...... :ulloa:

mm best of luck to him, I'm sure he will be in championship team of the year come May.

Memories:

1) The goal v Derby (4-1 at home I think)

2) The beautiful pass to Vardy against Man U

3) The crucial "over the line" goal which kick started our comeback when 2-0 down to Villa

4) Dragging Vards away in the Casino incident.

Big part in the best period most of us will ever see the club have, should go with all of our best wishes.

You could never question his effort and application, always put a shift in but as the club has moved forward his quality just wasn't quite there.

I'll always love his goal against Derby!

But that was not what you said so don't change the argument. You made a stupid immature comment that he was s*** which is clearly not the case.He may not or never will be a top end Premier League right back  but it does not make your comment accurate.

He did a good job for us and should be shown the respect he deserves. He gave us some great moments as other posters have mentioned. However I am sure you know better than the managers that have signed him and selected him.
