Did vardy really want to move to arsenal?

Recommended Posts

If he is constantly living in regret, he's not going to be the same player. It isn't down to lack of confidence. Anyone with low confidence can still press and close down.

We haven't got a game for a few weeks so he hasn't got to save his legs for a midweek champions league game or anything.

If you watch a video of vardy vs man United last season, it's like watching a different player.

What happened?

Strolls around these days.

Not the same player

I loved it in the 2nd half when he 'strolled' up to their centre half after giving him a ten yard head start.

If he really wanted to move to Arsenal...surely he would have moved to Arsenal?

I said it at the time, no, but what he did do (imo) is use us and them (and/or any other team that came in for him).

When he signed a new contract in February (?) he and his agent made sure that release clause was put in so he could engineer a new contract or a move.

Fair play I can't blame him for that, however he needs to get the £100k off his back that's currently weighing him down!

He didn't want to move to Arsenal at all. He used them, to get a better contract here.

He added: “One thing that didn’t worry me was the idea that I wouldn’t be the ‘main man’ at Arsenal.

“Every time I’ve moved, I’ve managed to meet the challenge in front of me.

“We even looked at new schools for the children, but I got to the stage where I felt with my heart and head that I wanted to stay at Leicester.”

Maybe he doesn't like the fact the club spent 30million on a similar striker, serves him right for pissing the club around.

“With people like Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil creating chances, Arsenal felt they could benefit me as much as I could them,” Vardy wrote in his new autobiography, serialised by The Sun.

“But I also thought about the tactical aspect.

“You look at Arsenal’s style of play and they don’t get the ball forward quickly in the same way Leicester do for those runs I like to make in behind the defence.”

he seems like he can't be arsed to press, slimani was doing what Vardy did last year, just not as well

He's being played in a strike partnership rather than the main man as he was last year.

He's bound to be less selfish.

He looks to me like he's protecting an injury by not chasing across the opposition back line. This must be something acknowledged by the bench otherwise they'd be going ballistic at him to press. Surely it can't be a new tactic about retaining energy, his sprint recovery rate is legendary and he did it all last season but it wouldn't surprise me if he has minor surgery on a little niggling injury soon (might as well use the International break, if they're not going to utilise him properly and the fact he's not likely to claim a place on form either). Still manages to make the runs to get one or two one on ones per game just sharpness and confidence preventing them being converted. Defensively though it's far more noticeable.

Doesn't deserve to be in this time around thats for sure.

Based on this season, there has been 4 better strikers

Exactly. I've slagged England's selection policy many times questioning why they aren't playing Vardy, asking them to play players on form, well I can't make a case for him...which means using England logic they'll probably play him!

How is Slimani similar to Vardy? I doubt he is pissed off about that they have different assets. I just think he's starting to believe his own hype too much. New story about his book every day and charging 15 quid for a signing lol. Concentrate on hard work Jamie, this is why you got to this level

Might it be tactical that he's not chasing? This season two things stand out to me with our setup.

1. Playing a high line defensively instead of dropping deep and countering.

2. Deliberately not playing a high intensity pressure game.

Its not just Vardy it's the whole team. Even Slimani who does chase doesn't do it all the time.

I wonder if Ranieri has deliberately done this because of the increase in games?

if it was down to me I'd encourage the pressing and rotate Vardy and Mahrez with Musa and Gray etc.

Vardy's definitely looked like a shadow of his former self this season.

Seems to me whenever he has had a wake up call he has bounced back stronger. Needs to be on the bench for a game in my opinion to put a rocket up his arse. His work rate has dropped that's for sure.

in that he presses play, and that he expected to be number one striker again this season when he signed
