sphericalfox Posted 2 October 2016 Posted 2 October 2016 It's obvious that the team is pressing much less than last season. It's not an individual thing, and certainly not specific to Vardy. I can only assume that we are playing the long game for the season, whilst maintaining energies for what is clearly the goal (to progress from the group stages in Europe).

Needs to be on the bench for a game in my opinion to put a rocket up his arse. His work rate has dropped that's for sure. Good point... I was thinking today during the game that we look like we are holding back. Perhaps trying manage our way through the games seeing as we have a good chance of qualifying in the CL and realistically little chance of winning the league. Maybe after the New Year we will go for it a bit more.
Izzy Posted 2 October 2016 Posted 2 October 2016 JV will be back to his dynamic best very soon I'm sure. Every striker has a dip in form at some stage but form is temporary and class is permanent. Get off his back and support him even more if he's struggling a bit I say...
Socks Posted 2 October 2016 Posted 2 October 2016 He got his cash and now he's sorted for life. Do the math

For me the worry is not about the pressing, it's more that when Drinkwater looks up and sees Vardy standing there with his hands in his pockets rather than on his bike it dramatically reduces our passing options and necessitates either a slower build up or us losing the ball. 4 or 5 times in the first half alone, Drinkwater or Mahrez were in possession after we'd turned the ball over, Southampton's full backs were caught up the pitch leaving a big gap in the channel for Vardy to run into and he just stood there on the half way line. Last season he'd have been off like a whippet into that space. This year he's just waiting for chances and frankly he doesn't even look like taking the ones that do come his way at the moment. He just about shit himself when one-on-one with Forster and made a series of bad decisions which led to the chance being wasted. Contrast with Slimani (who hardly had a great game himself) who ran the channels repeatedly to little avail, but on occasion it gave our defenders an easy out ball, the sort of which Vardy allowed them to make for most of last season (especially pre-injury). Watching Slimani do it and not Vardy I just can't believe that it's team orders not to run the channels or into space. Surely there's not a centre forward on the planet being told not to run into 30 meters of vacant space between centre backs and out of position full backs. For my money that's the 3rd time this season that he's been our worst player - Hull (by a distance), Man United (some would disagree but I thought he was just as bad then as today) and today. If it was anybody else there'd be no doubt that there'd be a consensus for him to be dropped not just on account of a lack of quality but more pertinently (especially with the style of play he adopts) an evident lack of application. The last 2 PL games he simply hasn't turned up.
foxy boxing Posted 3 October 2016 Posted 3 October 2016 he just needs to concentrate on being match fit for games
Durnerz Posted 3 October 2016 Posted 3 October 2016 He's being asked to conserve his energy, similar policy to the end of last season. His sharpness in front of goal is what worries me, without the ball in front of him he's not as effective. Now we've moved up a level he's got to be more clever and make the right runs at the right time. Slimani has that craft that we need, not so sure Vardy does.
adejo92 Posted 3 October 2016 Posted 3 October 2016 Vardy's main asset is his pace chasing down long balls over the defence. Unfortunatly teams have figured this out and now man mark him and play a deeper line to prevent him having space to run through. If i am being honest, one season got everybodys attention but having seen him this season, i think Arsenal will be glad things did not work out. I hate to say it because i am a big fan of Vardy however this season he will be nothing.

Nothing is a slight exaggeration surely, he's had a lean start but has 2 goals already, I'd still fancy both him and Slimani to get double figures and if we can do that we will be at the right end of the table if we can stop conceeding so many goals away from home. Think we need to calm down, we've two good wins, yes we've lost a couple away to very good teams and Hull was a bit of a disaster and a wake up call. Performance was bad yesterday but result certainly tolerable, Arsenal was alright as well. Let's get this bad run of fixtures out the way and see how we get on when we have 3-4 winnable fixtures in a row without running into a away game against a Man U or a Chelsea. I think 12th is more than respectable position to be in at the moment, do what we can against Chelsea then really look to get some points on the board against West Brom Sunderland borough and Watford and really compete for Europa League place.
Finnegan Posted 3 October 2016 Posted 3 October 2016 Just kooks a bit short of confidence and fitness. Will be fine.
Fox92 Posted 3 October 2016 Posted 3 October 2016 Sorry but our style of play has been shit. We're playing pointless aimless long balls all game, Vardy is never going to get in the game. Yesterday was laughable... Long ball, we don't win it, Southampton bring it down and actually play football. Repeat for 90 mins.
MrSpaM Posted 3 October 2016 Posted 3 October 2016 IMO we are just trying to do the bare minimum to stay in the league and putting all our effort into the champions league games

I'm reading into and speculating but I don't see great chemistry between him and Slimani, and he clearly didn't like it when he played with Musa as he was remonstrating with Ranieri that he didn't have anywhere to run - doesn't feel like the main man anymore?

Maybe you are right that 'nothing' is an exaggeration however 'nothing special' would not be. I think my stats are correct that Vardy has had 10 appearences and scored 2 goals, one of which was given to him at Liverpool. I dont mean to slag him off as i think he is a great player, i just feel his way of playing has been sussed out and he doesnt seem half the player he was last season. Hopefully just a slow start.
steflcfc Posted 3 October 2016 Posted 3 October 2016 I don't buy into this conserve our energy, if some players are tired already, bench them instead of having to put in poor performances. It's going to be a hard season if this is the case less than 10 games in!! If Ranieri can't trust the players he has brought last season and this, then why buy them in the first place? Our squad isn't big enough to give players time, if they are good enough put them in...simple. Hopefully the £ hasn't gone to Vardys head and he has forgot what values got him where he his now, with his performances the last few games he may be finding himself being the "main man" on the bench. If that's what's needed then Ranieri needs to do it to whip him back into shape. If Vards/Mahrez are now being found out, they need to change things up now and again. Messi can have 2/3 players a game marking him but still finds ways to influence games, even by creating space for others. He still puts in the work.

MrsJohnMurphy Posted 3 October 2016 Posted 3 October 2016 Some of the over reactions on this forum are laughable Were not playing great at the minute, things will improve Vardy will get 10-15 goals this season, so will Slimani We've just had a slow start to the season
pazzerfox Posted 3 October 2016 Posted 3 October 2016 I think Jamie has been told to save his legs. I remember when Wayne Rooney used to charge around the pitch like Vards but Fergie gradually coached it out of him. I personally think he is a better player when he harass' defenders and it takes away his (and Leicesters) main threat.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 3 October 2016 Posted 3 October 2016 It's almost like he's never gone a few games without scoring before! Not like Spurs ace hotshot, Harry Kane. Why can't he be as consistent as him?

stevelcfc Posted 3 October 2016 Posted 3 October 2016 He needs to start performing or there won't be much banging for all the shit that will inevitably start to be spoken.
Nick Posted 3 October 2016 Posted 3 October 2016 I think he's getting a rough deal in this thread, personally. Lots of things made his goals plast season and 80% of those are embodied in the service and build up that he's not had this season.
esoog Posted 3 October 2016 Posted 3 October 2016 A thread slagging off a Leicester City legend. Football manager playing idiots
Wymsey Posted 3 October 2016 Posted 3 October 2016 He's been great overall, but if his recent performances are anything to come by and continues then any big offer for him in January should be carefully considered imo.
