Larry_LCFC Posted 2 October 2016 Posted 2 October 2016 So the term "Plan B" has been banded around for several weeks now, by myself included. A very easy thing to say, but what actually should our plan B consist of? For me, Gray needs to be starting. Albrighton has been far too hit and miss and I think Gray is a far more exciting prospect. I wouldn't be disappointed to see Hernandez replace Simpson either. Danny hasn't necessarily done anything wrong but he is very one dimensional. That giant throw from Hernandez is a massive bonus in itself and he was solid in the CL. I'd also be starting Musa in place of Vardy. Vards is a shadow of the player last season and he needs time to work things out for himself - nobody deserves an automatic start. Musa is terrifyingly fast and he can change our game, as we saw when he came on at Wembley. He can't really do any worse. I think we have established 4-4-2 needs to be shelved without Kante. Okazaki is great at linking up the play upfront, but he generally cant hit a barn door. I'm not entirely sure the best role for him in all honesty but he needs to be in there. Ultimately we don't have a team of world beaters and our success came from fast, exciting counter attack and scoring lots of goals from it. We have been found out to some extent, but we just seem to have lost all urgency with the current setup. So come on, what is your "Plan B"?
Donut Posted 2 October 2016 Posted 2 October 2016 I dont believe in plan A and plan B etc I believe in having an appropriate strategy for the opponent and match situation, not a couple of pre meditated plans.
Chico1958 Posted 2 October 2016 Posted 2 October 2016 Shinji Okazaki is a Japanese footballer who plays for Leicester City, and for the Japan national football team as a forward. At club level, Okazaki is the most prolific Japanese player in Bundesliga history. Internationally, he is currently the top active Japan national team goalscorer and third all-time in team history with 49 goals. He won the Premier League with Leicester in 2016. This guy works his nuts off for the team, yes he don't score enough but is that him or our style. This year he's not getting a look in.
lgfualol Posted 2 October 2016 Posted 2 October 2016 Anything is better than the treat the ball like a bomb football we seem to be prefering. Keep the ball on the floor and get crosses in for Slimani
StriderHiryu Posted 2 October 2016 Posted 2 October 2016 Plan B for me would be quite a shake-up. Our Plan A strategy is to have a great defence that soaks up pressure, sacrificing possession and hitting it long as fast as possible to break with clinical efficiency. Plan B would be something like the way we played against Burnley in the second half. Bossing possession with quick interchanging between positions and the front 5 or 6 all getting involved and the full backs bombing on. Silky football that wouldn't be too disimilar to the way Liverpool play. To play that style you need technicians, players with creativity and players with great technique. So this would probably be something like 4-3-3 with Amartey as holding midfielder with Drinkwater and Mendy in the middle as technicians and a front 3 of Gray, Mahrez and Slimani / Vardy. We'd need a lot of time to really get good playing in this way and might have to take a step backwards before going forwards, which is why I don't think we've seen anything like it yet. I think this is the reason why we were linked with Adrien Silva as he'd be a player that would fit into this strategy.
Callabinho Posted 2 October 2016 Posted 2 October 2016 I'm starting to wonder about Claudio....I don't think he actually has a clue what he's doing this season, let alone think about a plan B.
Soar Fox Posted 2 October 2016 Posted 2 October 2016 We don't seem to have a plan A let alone B at the minute. It's so predictable what we do now that teams have sussed us out. Our centre halves get the ball short pass into Drinkwater who puts his head up looks for Vardy and puts a long hopeless ball over the top for him to chase. When we get the ball now players are scared of having it & running with it, it seems they want to get rid of it as quick as possible.
Foxxed Posted 2 October 2016 Posted 2 October 2016 We've been shit with 433. I'd give it a go again, since perhaps Mendy could be the missing link there, but I'm not holding my breath. Although I'd like to see 532, I'm really unsure if messing with the Huth-Morgan partnership is what we need. I suspect we'll more likely try to alter 442 slightly if anything.
IsItMuzzy Posted 2 October 2016 Posted 2 October 2016 We need to get plan A right first. That's the whole point of a plan B...Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk
Sol thewall Bamba Posted 2 October 2016 Posted 2 October 2016 We could try not just booting it aimlessly forward.

Charl91 Posted 2 October 2016 Posted 2 October 2016 We need a second CM who can pass for a start. Amartey can run, but can only pass sideways 10 yards to Drinkwater or the CB's. It's no wonder our pass-and-move play has suffered.
GloverFox Posted 2 October 2016 Posted 2 October 2016 .... no, I think plan B is we ... the 'fans' get right back into it and back the team up to the hilt .... even more noise and a hell of a lot more jumping up and down making the noise!

He slows the game right down by doing the safe simple pass which most of the time is going backwards.

It's infuriating as he'll often pass it to Drinkwater, even if he's in a much better position himself to make the forward pass himself, or if Drinkwater is being marked.

Exactly. We're too predictable. Long ball from Drinkwater is something someone else said. Our wing play is really only good on the left side, but crosses especially from Albrighton are poor 1/5 times. Simpson cant pass or cross so it's harder on the right. Worst thing is the players keep trying things that don't work and they're things other teams know all about. We're just dull to watch sometimes.
foxes21 Posted 2 October 2016 Posted 2 October 2016 Rotation is key, I think we look tired. Rotation will help keep everyone fresh. plan a: (shinji to link play, slimani to feed of crosses from albrighton/mahrez) Albrighton Okazaki Mahrez Slimani plan b: (counter attack) Mahrez Kaputska Gray Musa Both formations 4-4-1-1, when defending it'll be 4-5-1 with Okazaki/Kaputska dropping into midfield. Vardy needs to work on his fitness, so he can actually help us defend from the front & press the opposition.
Stadt Posted 2 October 2016 Posted 2 October 2016 If we start making too many changes we'll lose sight of what we're trying to do, it's hard to identify which change is doing what when you make too many. Vardy and Slimani aren't working with how they're playing at the moment - against Brugge Slimani was effectively playing the Okazaki role, dropping deep linking midfield and attack as well as dropping in without the ball and we looked so much better as a result. Today both strikers were pushing up against their backline looking to get in behind but they sat deep denying the necessary space, without a striker linking the play it forces players to go long because of a dearth of options so it wasn't surpassing when we looked better with Shinji on. Another issue is our total inability to play out of the back, obviously we're not going to transition into a Barcelona 2011 overnight but our buildup play is just so poor at times, Drinky comes deep to receive the ball but when he does it leaves Amartey central where he's heavily marked and we really struggle to progress the ball up the pitch. This happened a few times which triggered Southampton's press, it wouldn't happen if Huth and Morgan weren't so uncomfortable on the ball.
bridport007 Posted 2 October 2016 Posted 2 October 2016 First game I've managed this season so far due to work and a 500 mile round trip. My thoughts were...the energy and noise were down and you could feel the uncertainty in the crowd. Love Kasper, but why when we're under pressure and he receives the ball does he hoof it up the pitch. So many times it goes to the opposition and we're back under pressure. There's been times when we've been confident enough to string together passes....like our Barcelona moment last season, where we look like we can really play some great stuff, but we are looking very one dimensional and easy for teams to work out. Back 4 was okay today I guess, but every time Southampton were wide and got a cross in, you thought...here we go. Drinky struggled to find a Blue shirt at times. Thought Amerty was okay but, he's made a few good passes in recent matches and should try to make a few more instead of the safe sideways and backwards option. Albrighton, as much as I love him, had no final cross. Mahrez had 3 on him every time he got the ball. He needs to vary his position and find space. Slimani worked very hard but the centre back had him in his pocket,so why did we insist on tryin to hoof it on to his head? Vardy last year would have never have tried to lay that chance on for someone else last year, he looked half the player from last season. it seems to me that this may be our one opportunity in the champions league and that's the focus? Whether that's a bad thing or not I don't know? Last year if we conceded then it didn't matter too much because we knew we could get back in to it, but so far this season, we haven't had that about us. Still...it was great to get to a game....the sun was shining....the butterflies walking to the ground were great, and the long drive home was incident free....crap match though.
foxfanazer Posted 2 October 2016 Posted 2 October 2016 A team that could string 5 passes together would be a good start. The high pressing, counter attacking style served us brilliantly last season but we have become so one dimensional it's bordering on a joke now. Vardy just isn't making those same runs this season
