Churchill Posted 21 November 2016 Posted 21 November 2016 Cast your mind back to late Feb early March last season not long after the great victory at Man City away, all of a sudden we weren't sticking 3 or 4 past teams and the performances were not as great as they had been. Five 1 nil wins on the bounce but no one cared because hey we were top of the league and destined to be premier league champions, but had we been found out? I believe we had been found out but we managed to grind out results and be defensively solid thanks to one man Kante, but the chances started drying up but luckily for us that once chance we did create we took. Now Kante has gone it seems we are still playing the same way even though teams have found us out but it isn't working as we have no replacement and the average back four are being exposed, leaking goals and not creating chances, were the cracks being covered up because we were top of the league and nicking 1-0 wins? I think so and I think its about time we changed the system.

Yes, as you point out it was when CR decided to change the tactics from pressing and harassing teams to defending deep and trying to grind out wins. We went from a confident team to one that looked vulnerable.
AyewJoking Posted 21 November 2016 Posted 21 November 2016 yeah its ranieri's fault. he insists on the same set up without the player that made it work. the players look fed up with it and ranieri doesnt seem to be able to motivate them.
Guest Lako42 Posted 21 November 2016 Posted 21 November 2016 This Ranieri sounds like a right clown, who is he and what has he ever won?
Wymsey Posted 21 November 2016 Posted 21 November 2016 Notice how the media have gone quiet on us? Last season they moaned moreorless about our uprising but now appear content we're struggling a bit currently whilst the usual big 4/5 are back on track.
Fox92 Posted 21 November 2016 Posted 21 November 2016 No. I've been very critical and negative this season but last season we were brilliant. Sometimes you have to grind out wins to win the league. How many times did we see Ferguson's United score an undeserved last minute winner or generally be poor all game yet still win?

It wasn't five on the bounce for a start, we lost to Arsenal and Drew with west brom in that period, and let's be fair we should have beaten arsenal or at least held on for a point. But taking those 5 1-0 wins as you put it, Norwich, Newcastle and Palace where all in a relegation battle at that time and 2 of them at home, did you expect them to come and open up so they could end up of the end of a result the same as Man City had, when those sides knew man city had better players and had been taken to pieces that day. That would have been suicide, yes they all ultimately got no points, but Norwich were a few seconds away from getting a point v the league leaders away from home, they would have taken that before kick off. I'm not sure much really changed from our point of view in that run, just that teams where happy to try and play for a point, our problem at the minute is, teams know we are struggling and are having a go. The away games have been a shocker, but we beat palace at home when they came and tried to have a go, and should have beaten both swansea and burnley by more, it's the last 2 games that worry me, west brom in my eyes was a poor performance but again they looked happy to protect the 1-0 and would have settled for a point, and giving watford a headstart again, shows we are not learning. How we change that, well that's not my job.
ZeGuy Posted 21 November 2016 Posted 21 November 2016 I don't think so. The 1-0 victories were against deep lying teams now wary of being torn apart on counters if playing too high. With the title in sight, a relative prudence commanded CR's tactical choices too.
Kitchandro Posted 21 November 2016 Posted 21 November 2016 No. We stuck 4 past Swansea, 3 past Everton? There was a period in late December/early January where we started playing a bit negatively, culminating in Villa away where we dropped points. I think it was after that we sprung into life again. Teams started sitting back and tried to make it difficult for us, that was the difference. Maybe our performances dropped a bit after Man City away, but that performance at the Etihad was probably the greatest from any Leicester team ever, certainly the best I've ever seen anyway. This season is completely different; we will look negative and struggle to create chances if the players aren't giving it their all, even if we're trying to implement the same system.

Agreed but my point being did teams finally work us out? Hence the lack of chances and the grinded out wins.
foxy boxing Posted 21 November 2016 Posted 21 November 2016 clearly the defence needed strengthening significantly and more work should have been done to bring these players in. we also needed to replace Kante with an experienced midfielder instead of bringing in two young and untested ones.

But by then both Swansea and Everton were just seeing the season out with nothing to play for, as you said teams made it difficult for us because they had worked us out. This season looks so negative because we are trying to play the same way without our best player who we sold to Chelsea and it isn't working without him.
AmarteyAndChill Posted 21 November 2016 Posted 21 November 2016 Not sure if this has been said but we got very lucky towards the end of last season. Jack rodwells miss from 5 yards against Sunderland and Schlupps penalty against West Ham and maybe that free kick that could of been a penalty against United (even though I didn't think it was a foul, the ref could easily have awarded one). We deserved to win the league but we did get our rub of the green last season.

Arriba Los Zorros Posted 21 November 2016 Posted 21 November 2016 I think a more accurate representation is that we got on a roll last season and rode the momentum and also benefitted from being underdogs and having pressure off, as well as our tactical plan over-relying on a certain DM. We started to then adopt a win at all costs, short termist approach to achieve our goal rather than looking for constant evolution and improvement and now the glory is behind us we're significantly weaker and struggling to pick up the pieces because of it. I've said before and honestly believe that CR was excellent at coming in with a calming influence and using his experience to make tweaks to an already functioning team, but he is not the man to build a longer-term successful team.
VLC86 Posted 21 November 2016 Posted 21 November 2016 To the thread title I think that is bang on. Nothing screams relegation battle next season than winning the league by 10 points and barely conceding in the last 10 matches.
brucey Posted 21 November 2016 Posted 21 November 2016 Walshy is a bigger loss than Kante. If rumours are true (big if), Ranieri is to blame for Walshy leaving.

I think im done with this forum and the horseshit posts that sully ever thread.

Been wondering this for a while. Wouldn't surprise me if it's around transfer targets as well, That Villa guy looked an ideal Kante replacement but instead he ended up at Everton and we end up with one of Claudio's old players.
s11nny Posted 21 November 2016 Posted 21 November 2016 I think it all comes down to us having a red kit

I might be wrong but hadn't Walsh pretty much gone when we signed him? Walsh left in July, we signed Kapustka in August.
