Interesting article on bbc site where Deeney says what is different from a players perspective when playing Leicester, interesting read:

Does make me laugh that even Troy bloody Deeney suggests two defensive mids to combat the loss of Kante but Ranieri doesn't consider that an option.

We've got one defensive midfielder in our entire squad.

Who should be playing with Amartey at the moment, in your opinion?

Two defensive midfielders would usually indicate 3 in midfield which was my main point.

Mendy or Drinkwater would be more then capable of sitting with Amartey when we defend and being allowed to get forward when we attack but being wary of the counter anyway

I'd love to see a midfield three of Amartey, Mendy and Drinkwater. Can see us opting for this option once there all fit. Amartey sitting in deep with Mendy and Drinkwater just in front.

Very good analysis imo. i think a 3511 formation,

                                         Schmeichal (when back)

                  Hernandez           Morgan            Fuchs

Mahrez/Gray                          Mendy                       Albrighton/Musa

                   Drinkwater                           Amartey

                                          Okazaki

                                      Slimani/Vardy

Yep, you've got to say he's completely right to be fair. Be interesting to see what Ndidi can offer when he comes in January. Hopefully we will have Mendy up and running again before long too.

There are too many ways to breach our defence this year, last year we defended deep so pace didn't effect us, Kante covered the right so Simpson wasn't overloaded and Okazaki dropped in so we didn't get outrun in midfield, forcing teams to put crosses into our box, which Morgan and Hugh gobbled up with ease. This year Simpson is isolated too often, meaning mahrez is in deeper positions than last year and therefore isn't as effective offensively. We can also get easily outrun in midfield, meaning huth and Morgan are having to backtrack and at times face our own goal, which is a horrendous thing to happen, especially with both so out of form

Troy also sad he is paid to play and not think. Yet he has given us a far better insight in Leicester this season that Ranieri has all season.

Huge shame Deeney didn't want to join us, he mentioned big fish at Watford and didn't want to change that here.

Vardy and Slimani playing up front together will never work, we don't have enough possession to have the luxury of two No 9's.

It won't happen but my ideal January transfer window would be to get Keane, Ndidi and Silva in. Play 4-5-1 or 4-3-3 whatever you want to call it.

---------------------Slimani-------------------

Vardy--Ndidi--Silva--Drinkwater--Mahrez

Fuchs-----Keane-----Morgan----Simpson

-----------------Schmeichel-------------------

Mahrez is too valuable offensively to play in a 4-4-2 and Slimani and Vardy should never play in the same position again.

If anything this article makes it sound like he did want to join us. He certainly doesn't say he didn't want to join us or that he wouldn't have been willing to adapt to not being the 'big fish'.

it is not exactly rocket science is it to see we needed two defensive midfielders, he is only saying the bleeding obvious and making out like he came up with it

His write ups are always spot on, very intelligent player who reads the game well.

Would have been nice to have seen him in a blue shirt.

Except the part where he goes on about teams getting used to the way we play. That really irks me.

People we're saying that in January. It's bullshit. The difference is what we're doing, not what other teams are doing.

If the players were performing to last season's level we'd still be a very strong outfit.

Well it wasn't too obvious to Ranieri in the summer!

I'd rather see Musa or Gray playing LM than Vardy.

How much would it have cost to make sure Mendy couldn't be injured?

Mendy was coming anyway with or without Kante staying we didn't replace him either way.

Correct, didn't mention that in the article.

I thought he mentioned that on motd 2, definitely said a reason for not joining us.
