About 30% saying that they would put league security over winning the CL, but they are almost all silent as to why. Not saying that they are wrong as it is a difficult hypothetical anyway, but I am interested in why?

During the 2014/15 season I wasn't worried about relegation threatening the future of the club, because I wasn't blind to the fact that Nigel Pearson and his staff were building a very good team, had a very strong record in the Championship and we weren't paying any extortionate (in comparison to the wages paid by sides of similar stature) wages to anybody. There's more risk now because we are paying extortionate wages to players that would be difficult to sustain outside of the top flight. Hope that clears up why I'm cautiously choosing the Champions League win. I'd also point out that I've made two posts mentioning Nigel Pearson in the last month, whereas you've made two posts about my 'obsession' with Nigel Pearson in the last hour...

Yes because you decided to come from nowhere and bring up old shit, get over it,I even admitted I was wrong but still Pearsons gone he's not coming back, thankfully,we both support the same club,I've enough battles with bitters from other clubs claiming last season was luck,to be arsed about old shite.

I'm not surprised.

Didn't agree with the majority when the same question was asked about the fa cup but with the champions league it's our only chance to ever win it,it's a definite champions league and relegation from me.

lol they'd have to arrange Championship fixtures around our Champions League games. We'd have to go up against PSG having lost the bulk of our best players. Ouch.

Would you swap positions with Tottenham? Doing well in the league but out of the CL.

it would be funny to beat barca 5-0 then losing 3-0 to west ham and get relegated

but don't worry my search for the 3 virgin sacrifices continues, it's indeed hard but I think i will manage to find them before the man city game

Not an easy answer to this, but it has to be Champions League winners and relegated. If this did happen I suspect the rules would be changed so no 2nd tier team could defend the trophy...

Champions League and relegation...easy!

We can get promoted again! I doubt we'd be winning the Champs League again anytime soon!

I'm going to buck the trend. I spent 10 years wondering if we'd ever make it back to the PL and for me the glory of last season and a CL win wouldn't mask the drudgery of another 10 years of being like Ipswich town.

With the amount of money on offer in the PL with TV money, the gap to Championship will only grow and the PL will become more of a closed shop.

So for me, our main aim has to be survival. Ie I'd rather be Southampton looking forward than Forest looking back.....

Can you imagine how many games we'd have to play if we won the champions league and went down lol

we'd need an American football sized squad*

* and we'd still play the same team every week

Sadist thing is, we might be knocked out next round, and be relegated.

If it was realistic, I would win the champions league and be relegated, and hope to bounce straight back.

But reality is we are not going to win it, and the premier league should be priority now, as for the clubs financial needs, we cannot afford to be relegated with the financial commitments we have made.

Yeah we are in the business of trying to win trophies so to win the prem and then the Champions League would be on such a level that I would happily then see our team disband and we started resorting to signing the likes of Junior Lewis and Mark de Vries again (with Mandaric back for another stint)

Win the champions league AND the FA cup and we might as well call it a day and finish the club having achieved all there is to achieve!
