dave982 Posted 8 December 2016 Posted 8 December 2016 For me this has been the biggest reason for our downfall this season. When Harvey Barnes came on it was astonishing to see the energy he had compared to everyone else. I get that it was late on in the game but the team has looked lethargic all season. It's probably the reason we have changed our style to more of a long ball game. You can say all you like about pre season trip to America has caused it. But other teams did exactly the same and they are fine. For me the damage was done after last season ended and before pre season started. The players were in all likelihood not looking after themselves well. You only have to look at vardy. And for me ranieri is completely at fault for this. It's his duty to ensure the players are completely fit. Compare our energy levels to Liverpools. It's embarrassing. This season is a write off.
Donut Posted 8 December 2016 Posted 8 December 2016 Energy levels probably look down because there is no buzz, no spring in the step. We are renowned for sports science at the club, we wouldnt have unfit players.
FrankieADZ Posted 8 December 2016 Posted 8 December 2016 i wouldnt say its low fitness/energy levels, seems like some of them just couldnt be bothered last night and through a good chuck of this season too, we cant write of this season because the way we are going we'll go down and then the s**t will really hit the fan

If someone doesn't put the work in they won't be fit. Not that I think that's the case.
Jace Posted 8 December 2016 Posted 8 December 2016 Its a very interesting point and I've been predicting this for a while now, when Pearson was here we had a very strict hard working training regime to a point where it was pushing the players to their peak performance. When Ranieri come in he had a very opposite approach allowing lots of rest and time off which explains why we had such explosive energy last year because we had a very fit team that was getting lots of rest. Unfortunately that could only last so long and now the effects of Pearsons strict fitness regime has gone and we've got the opposite to what we had last season which is a team that isn't fit enough to hack the pace. I think we will go down this season unfortunately which for me would be such a great shame to tarnish our achievements of last season and turn what has been the greatest sporting story of all time into a bit of a joke
st albans fox Posted 8 December 2016 Posted 8 December 2016 Are we running less distances than last season? mentally the players are not in the right place and that doesn't really surprise me. Had we made a barnstorming start to the season then I suspect they could have kept the show on the road but once hull happened they were clearly shocked by it and couldn't raise themselves thereafter. Mendy getting injured really hampered us as it left drinkwater too much to do - obvious why the sudden rush to try and buy silva. the playets probably dont don't recognise what is wrong - those few yards closing down the opposition doesn't seem much but it makes all the difference. Teams are doing it to us and we panic. Many teams would do the same but we are standing off too much and our 2 v 3 in the middle offers them an easy out ball pretty well all the time.

Other side's have a bigger squad than us though and are used to it. Jetting off around the world playing major sides I think lost the humbleness that the players had. By that I mean we were 10% more determined and harder working than everyone. And when you do that you get the breaks. We made our own luck last year by outworking everyone we played. Fighting for every ball and harassing every player playing against us in possession.

We squeezed every bit of energy out of big Wez last season, at his age and he's naturally a big unit hitting the bar will take its toll. Dropped by Jamaica for that reason. Hard when the wrong side of 30. Same for others for that and other reasons.

norwichfox Posted 9 December 2016 Posted 9 December 2016 I also think the International Champions Cup is a factor in our lack of readiness for this season, we were unable to cope mentally with the heavy goals against column, after all, we were unbeatable superstars and Champions of England, then to follow that with a defeat by Hull sealed the new scene and unfoirtunately whay appears to be the new Leicester (of old).....OK we managed get into the last 16 of the Champions League, but once the job was done, my word, how those heads dropped at Porto and what was left of any club spirit seems to have drained away. Ranieri's comment regarding the lack of anyone showing him they are ready for a first team place from the "new boys" in the v Porto line up quite honestly sickened me as much as the apparent lack of effort by the team because it's an indicator to me that the problem is club wide, and that tactics and team will stay the same Mendy will be the only change from our "usual". I hope he feels he has something to prove and will bring an injection of energy to the side when he gets on the field. I'm hoping and praying Kasper is fully fit as he is another player that will bring some encouragement and energy to us.....but please not unless his injury is fully fixed, we can't afford to lose him for another lengthy period we have cover but it is proving to be inadequate. I thought Barnes deserves to be on the bench, as Mendy is likely to get a shortened stint, but fear that if he is bought on to be party to another thrashing it may have a too much of a negative effect on his progress. "Come on Claudio, get angry", instil some bloody confidence in the lads, show the fans and owners that you're too good to consider sacking due to current form and not because of past glories. Remind us practically of how since 2000 you've managed 10 clubs (not including the Greek debacle) 588 games and with a lowest points average of 1.54 per game for any of those clubs....I'd take that for the rest of this season....and I think every other City Fan would take that too.
foxy boxing Posted 9 December 2016 Posted 9 December 2016 our fitness and energy levels this season compared to last are extraordinary not to mention our injuries. we were so lucky with injuries last season and players are now look shattered in games. obviously this is down to us playing Champions League but I get the sense there is something else. last season we were so good playing every game with intensity but this season the 'spark' has gone and we are a lot less dynamic
jon1bc Posted 9 December 2016 Posted 9 December 2016 Nothing to do with fitness, all to do with desire / ability
Sol thewall Bamba Posted 9 December 2016 Posted 9 December 2016 I've stayed pretty clear of the constant LCFC bashing recently but the one thing that I will get annoyed about is the pre-season prep. Too much billy big bollocks shite parading the trophy round, taking part in bullshit tournaments, sponsorship photo opportunities and basically not put the hard yards in. Criminal that we let it happen, especially seeing that our work rate was so key to our success last season.

This is all wrong. The fitness team had to persuade CR not to increase training. As he wanted them to train twice a day. He said that they had shown him their concerns about over training and how less is more .So after looking into it he decide to stick with the Pearson/fitness teams way.
yorkie1999 Posted 9 December 2016 Posted 9 December 2016 I don't think fitness levels are to blame for our current form, i do think that we are trying to lull our european competitors into a false sense of security though. Its the only explanation that makes any sense. All the other sides are looking to draw us in the next round because they think we'll be a push over, much like last season in the prem, other teams thought they'd blow us away but they didn't. Next round the real leicester will stand up and we'll mug off Real. Sucker if you believe that crap.
sylofox Posted 9 December 2016 Posted 9 December 2016 Barnes coming on was pure adrenaline. Our early season form was down to our preseason and our owners grabbed the dosh. We had CL to deal with and should have stayed home. First time in we should not have took the bucks but they did. Many of our players are confidence players. Vardy Mahrez and Wes. Other than perhaps Fuchs Slim and Was have done CL. We did not train well and jumped into a packed start not a league cup match midweek. We never got started and are suffering for it even now. Our owners are part of this yes. But I blame CR as he has not addapted our formation to deal with it. We miss one player yes but we should have enough to get over him. Also summer spending was poor. We did not buy players where we really needed them.

I'd be amazed if a time honoured successful professional football manager like Ranieri has simply overlooked the very basic concept of player fitness. That and the fact that we still have the same fitness and sports science team from when Pearson was here.

Builds a team, pushes them to the limit wins something and when they're all knackered, he leaves or gets the old spanish archer.
promised land Posted 9 December 2016 Posted 9 December 2016 One thing I don't buy into is low fitness or energy levels. It's not the 1970's anymore where the players would be on the town the night before, these players of today are professional athletes with unlimited sports science. How can a fit young bloke who trains once a day for an hour or two, then plays for 90 minutes once a week, occasionally twice be worn out?

It's not that they are 'tired' so much, its that the opposition are also professional athletes backed up with loads of sports science, so if your prep isn't quite as good, if your players have played more games, then they are going to be marginally slower or less energetic than the opposition, and at this high level of performance, that's the kind of small disadvantage that can make a difference.
