Our best starting XI?

Recommended Posts

Fifteen games into the PL campaign and through the group stages of the Champion League. The question I want to ask is what do you think our best starting XI is? Obviously it's kinda difficult because we haven't seen enough of Mendy to really make a judgement on where he's at.

I think this formation could get the best out of the front two. Wouldn't have Fuchs in the back three though.

Difficult to say, we haven't seen enough of Mendy to judge and I don't think 4-4-2 is our long-term solution, but haven't seen how we would do with a different system.

I feel this could be very strong:

Schmeichel

Hernandez

Morgan

Huth

Albrighton

Drinkwater

Mendy

Fuchs

Mahrez (free role)

Okazaki

Vardy

Strikers are tough though. If Vardy carries on like he did yesterday, he'd be one of the first names on the team sheet again. I'd play Okazaki against the better sides for his defensive work, but they're easily interchangeable with Slimani- he would really benefit from Albrighton and Fuchs' crosses in this system.

If we were to play that system that's probably what I'd go with. Maybe Slimani for Shinji, but more or less the same.

3 at the back? We haven't used that for what, over 18 months?

How can it be our best side if half the team have never played these positions before? This isn't fifa

I'd go with

                        Schmeichel

Simpson        Morgan        Huth        Fuchs

               Mendy             Amartey

Mahrez               Okazaki               Albrighton

                           Slimani

Would be interested to see how we'd do with this. Relatively similar to how we have it right now, with Albrighton and Mahrez running up the flanks, and with Okazaki falling in behind the CF, only major difference would be the two DMs covering the back four. Alternatively, swap Slimani for Okazaki and put Vardy up front.

Even after yesterday I think we're a better team with Okazaki in it.

Okazaki should start every away game, with Slimani coming in when we are at home

You're right with what you're saying, though I can understand people's logic behind it. I suppose they're thinking it would get the best out of Vardy and Slimani. We'll never know unless we play it. It's kinda why I wanted to see us give it a go away at Porto, or at least try a different system. It was a golden opportunity to do so.

Thought this for ages, although there would be exceptions for tactical reasons.

It has a certain logic to it...

Too hard to make a "best" team when Mendy and James haven't featured and Gray plays 20mins a game.

Gray had his big chance in Porto. He played the full 90 minutes, but

did not really shine.

He is a big talent, who needs time to adjust to top-level football.

Right now, Albrighton is the better choice.

how about we wait till we sign 3 new players in the winter window, a c/half a defensive midfielder and a attacking m/fielder.

That's not a terrible idea!

we need to see Mendy fully fit and playing to see what he can do

Musa needs to do a hell of a lot more to get into the first team

Wow, what am I thinking. Could slot him in for Okazaki or in for Amartey, I guess.
