Hes not a bad keeper he won the world cup with Germany but throw and overseas player strait into the prem they appear shite.I'd keep him he's decent dispute his few blunders

I'd rather have him with German prem exspeireince that Ben hamers

Fed up of seeing this. He didn't even play.

If you want to use stats, he was the first German keeper since the early 1950s to concede 3 on debut.

Hasn't show he is good enough to be back up here.

I agree with that and there's probably not many players who'll come as second choice. I just think using the 'he's got a World Cup medal' ain't really an excuse when he's been poor for us, that's all.

Aye with mark coming to the end of his career its was going to be difficult reaplaceing him.

Very good keepers make great saves, win you games and earn you points. I put Kasper in that box. RRZ is an OK keeper, but never looked like being great and positively affecting a result = points gained.

The ball just kept finding the net all too easily.

Just doesn't seem confident. I think the rest of the players pick up on this and everybody seems nervous when the ball comes near his area. Maybe as he gets familiar with his surroundings his confidence will develop.

Even though we have had both Ron and Robert Zieler in goal, they rank 22/23 for keepers in the Prem.

PL keepers to have faced more than 100 shots in 2016-17 - the worst five
Rank Keeper/club Expected goals conceded Actual goals conceded Additional goals conceded
19/23 Fraser Forster (Southampton) 19.7 26 6.3
20/23 Claudio Bravo (Man City) 16.3 23 6.7
21/23 Lukasz Fabianski (Swansea) 42.2 49 6.8
22/23 Ron-Robert Zieler (Leicester) 7.7 16 8.3
23/23 David Marshall (Hull) 26.3 37

9.7

A little misleading. Im not impressed with Ziler but our defence has been atrocious for most of the season and the keeper (Zieler and Kasper) up to a point pay the price.....

Not misleading at all. The stat is based on the type of shot faced, i.e. where struck from, where struck to, how build up was constructed. Zieler has let in 8 more goals than expected.

Pointless thread. Pointless stats. He's the second GK and was let down by a championship level defense more than once. But people still need to keep on slating him. Shame.

He's made a few errors and there's been a few times where he probably should have saved some efforts at the near post

After Schwarzer we needed a half decent keeper but to be honest I don't think Zieler is much of an upgrade on him. If Kasper got injured for a lengthy period again I think we'd be struggling as proven when Kasper was injured earlier in the season. All Zieler is a half decent shot stopper who can't defend crosses and who's distribution is woeful. What's wrong with getting a young lad in from the championship as a second keeper?

I don't think you can be called a World Cup winner if you were 3rd choice keeper?

Would you say he's better than hamer.yeah a young championship gk would have better exspirience in this country.zeiler had time at man u for 2 years that's why I thought we had a decent back up keeper.keepers are least of our worries right now

Big interview in last week's Thursday edition of Kicker:

Zieler acknowledges Schmeichel as our No.1 goalkeeper, because of his terrific play this season and thanks to him having a bit of a "legitimate bonus of a champion".

"That Schmeichel is more successful with his emotional ways in times like these, is absolutely understandable. But in the end, he's simply a very good goalkeeper."

He calls the current situation "difficult", however, and laments somehow that his style of play is not in demand at Leicester ("my game circles around staying safe whilst defending the ball, that I act as an equal player on the pitch and as someone who can open up a match. But in a team so focused on kicking long balls up front, such characteristics are probably not as much required.").

He also says he needs more minutes under his belt, but is not willing to give up on the LCFC adventure yet ("No matter what role I occupy, I want to remain as professional as I can be").

Sounds like he's trying to catch Pep's attention :P
