weller54 Posted 2 February 2017 Posted 2 February 2017 4-1 defeat!. Confidence is shattered and our only hope is a change in Manager to someone who can give these players a kick up the Arse... Swansea, Hull and Palace have all done it and had reactions... It's so clear to see, the players are not performing for Ranieri, he's lost them! Think we've left it too late anyway, other clubs have taken the necessary action and they're on the up... Under Ranieri we'll just keep on losing and will soon be cast adrift. Will our owners sack him?... Probably not.
Ollie93 Posted 2 February 2017 Posted 2 February 2017 The defeat at Burnley showed me what was wrong. We are trying to play the same way as we did last season and it just isn't working. Albrighton was delivering good crosses, but to whom? Vardy was never going to win those headers. I'd like to see Albrighton and Gray start against Man U, but play a 4-2-3-1, turning into a 4-5-1 when we are under threat. I'd have them pepper the Man U box with good crosses and I'm pretty sure Slim would get at least one good chance that he would put away. It's our only hope...
ceebeefox Posted 2 February 2017 Posted 2 February 2017 This fixture is just what we need. It's a freebie , nothing to lose , so why not play how we finished at Derby with Vardy, Musa, Gray, and Mahrez all on the pitch? All that pace on the pitch would occupy United surely? So long as all the eleven play like their lives depended on it like last season we the fans will be happy. The players must remember that we are in general a working class club with a working class support that will cheer a good hard tackle almost as much as a goal. IF YOU CAN'T PLAY WELL, PLAY HARD! We haven't got close enough to people lately to earn a booking. The fans? First off boo Referee Taylor onto the pitch, let him know what we're about. Then don't groan if Drinks misplaces a pass or 2 or Riyad gets robbed trying to do the hardest thing in football (go past somebody). Get behind the lads. If it was Bournemouth or someone it would be a little different but this is a freebie.
Jonno84 Posted 2 February 2017 Posted 2 February 2017 Hull managed to draw against man u So I fancy our chanses at drawring of loosening heh that's all I can exspect lately.unless we do another man city

Babylon Posted 2 February 2017 Posted 2 February 2017 Call me crazy... but I'm starting to think Andy King might be our saviour (can you hear me clutching at straws). We know at his best he was an attacking midfielder with an eye for a goal. He'll always try and pass the ball, he's not going to punt it. Whilst his passing isn't as good as Drinkwater's, he's not going to try hollywood passes and lose the ball and he's got good link up play. Slimani Mahrez King Albrighton N'didi Drainkater Fuchs Huth Morgan Simpson

Babylon Posted 2 February 2017 Posted 2 February 2017 Just now, Papasmurf said: And replace him with whom?? Well when Hull and Swansea got their managers people laugh... suddenly they aren't laughing. It doesn't have to be a "name". We're crying out for someone for a footballing identity that they can imprint on what I still think is a good group of players. We just don't seem to have any kind of plan or style (no I don't class, what we're doing now as any kind of style).

He is never going to beat a man or hold the ball for long, but at least he will keep it on the floor and simple. I think as long as we have Drinkwater and Albrighton in the team though, then the long ball will stay. Unless they are under strict instructions not to. I would like to see Mendy have a go, maybe start alongside N'didi, and then Gray for Albrighton.

They were exactly the two changes I was debating really, I actually thought Mendy had done ok and Gray is a threat. But I went with Albrighton but only on the basis of him playing from the right if is Slimani is fit to play. It gives him the chance to whip it in on his right rather than check back and float. I also think Mahrez and Fuchs would link up better than Mahrez and Simpson, who frankly just can't kick a ball straight. Drinkwater stayed in the team purely on the basis of it being United and him potentially being a but more motivated.

Our team would be doing comfortably if we didn't have a defence that needed babysitting in possession up to the half way line. I like Drinkies German name there!

I don't blame the defence on it's own at all, we're losing the ball so often that they're under pressure most of the game. Teams will get chances when we can't control the ball. Yes they are partly to blame as often they just punt it clear, but you look at the options they have most of the time and they are non existent. Watch how many people actually move to create options or come close to form a triangle so we can pass it out. Our triangles are so big you've got about 30m between each man, so you end up asking Danny Simpson to ping the ball 30m to a marked man. The passes have to be perfect and they just aren't good enough at passing to be asking that of them.
Benji Posted 2 February 2017 Posted 2 February 2017 Depends which United shows up - probably need to expect a dodgy decision to United after another "look at me I'm so harshly done by" interview by Mourinho.

the fox Posted 2 February 2017 Posted 2 February 2017 So, our midfield is mendy,n'didi and an out of form Drinkwater and theirs is pogba, Herrera and carrick

I love his industry and work rate, but he's utterly useless as a creative force. A few times recently he's had a chance to break us forward and slide in a pass, but he's just fumbled about with the ball and ended up tackled and on his arse.

I'm not sure I saw a single good delivery from him. He is so wasteful. We are a fickle bunch I get that - but the 2 Dannys and Albrighton should be dropped based on how poor they are. You could argue we need to change all XI but at the end of the day we have wingers and CMs on the bench who would (maybe) care a little more. I really don't want to see Drinkwater sulking again. If the guy hates the team so much he can get lost and play for Villa for all I care. He seems to have good alternate seasons! If we are going down lets do it fighting at least.

The passes have to be perfect and they just aren't good enough at passing to be asking that of them. I did notice that in the last 20 of the Derby game, our movement was horrific. At the same time though, their default mode is "OHMYGOD THERES NOBODY OPEN SMASH IT/PASS IT BACK TO KASPER TO SMASH" I think if they held onto the ball longer between them it would naturally open up more spaces or give players time to give them an option. I'm 100% convinced our downfall will the defenders giving away possession cheaply. Whenever we get an attack and it breaks down, most teams defence would pick it up and recycle it. Ours either smashes it out of play or just passes it back to Kasper to smash long and then we've lost possession again. With every game I watch it becomes more blatant that Kanté was pretty much the main reason we won games instead of drawing and drew games instead of losing. His ability to not only shield the defence but also carry the ball from defence into midfield really allowed some limited defenders to shine last season. It was so obvious that we needed to evolve and these players needed replacing with footballers. Mad that we've just stuck with it. If Wague and Benny can play football I'd seriously be tempted to play Albrighton (2 of Benny/Wague/Fuchs) Chillwell. I'm convinced we have enough in midfield and attack but we're being seriously hampered by our lack of confidence on the ball at the back. I doubt I'll find out if I'm right or horribly wrong this season as Simpson, Morgan and Huth seem to be irreplaceable anyway haha.

We did that so well last year, but we've not continued it.
