Player recruitment (What makes us stand out compared to the rest)

Not normally a thread starter but I just wanted to gauge peoples opinions on where we stand compared to other teams in regards to a player wanting to come to us instead of the next team.. and Yes i am assuming we stay up because we have all got to be confident now.

So then we all no we kind of blew it in the Summer in terms of abusing our champions league place and attracting them extra special players. But going into this summer how do we compare to the other 19 teams?

Now i know we cant compete with the current top 6 for players for numerous reasons. So that is Chelsea,Tottenham,Man. City,Liverpool,Arsenal & Man United BUT out of the rest of the crop i cant really split them and just feel our Title winning season has gave us that edge of stature/history and we can obviously afford to mix it up with wages.

I would say Everton  and maybe Newcastle promoted still have a bit of pulling power, but i think we would just edge out a team like Southampton as well even though it seems their recruitment is top notch.

What does everyone else feel or do you honestly feel we are still no more attractive then the likes of West Brom and Stoke still?

I agree. i think having a Prem Title win makes us more appealing than Stoke, West Brom etc.

Ultimately the main pulling power for any team is Money. That's the way football is now

I think the investment in infrastructure that has been talked about, such as training ground improvements, will help a lot.

We're miles behind even the likes of Swansea now who have gone state of the art..... it might not sound like a lot but the players like the finer things, the little touches, it's the place they will spend most of the time with the club at, so i'm pleased it's a priority for the owners.

I wouldn't underestimate the power of the Player Liaison team either, always heard good things about (forgotten his name lol) so I bet he helps in terms of helping people settle in.

We also seem to be fairly flexible with the players, Chelsea make players live within 7 miles of Cobham, whereas we let Gray commute in every day from Brum, Huth and others from Manchester etc etc.

I think in our position being flexible/adaptable is key, we can perhaps offer players freedom which in some cases will be the difference between signing for say Southampton or Us.

Players from abroad with look to the teams they know of and teams that have been in the league for a while. If we stay up, we're going to tick both of those boxes comfortably. A strong end to the season and being well away from trouble will help massively.

The daft thing is it's been a lousy season really in terms of our general performances, our lack of points which has dragged us into a relegation pack that we've still not shaken off, plus our abyssmal and unnecessarily abject performances in the domestic cups..

And yet, big IF, we stay up and if we reach the Champions League quarter-finals or better, we should be set fair to kick on next season to genuinely establish ourselves at least on the periphery of the better sides for what I'd hope would be years to come and that despite, not because of,  Ranieri since the Premiership title was won..

It's certainly not been dull following Leicester but, from the depths of despair at the end of a pointless January, there could be massive excitement yet to come if Shakespeare can shape and bond our what I see as our misdirected squad into something even stronger in depth than we were 12 months ago and finally capable of challenging for every competition. ,

Yeah, they defo don't look for who will pay them the most money....

We cant pay over the odds for ever.  If two clubs agree on the value of a player, then other factors come into play.

The part that makes last summer's recruitment the most frustrating is that we squandered probably our best ever position in terms of player pulling power.

My point being normally another club would be willing to beat an offer if they are desperate but I agree with the posts in here that people now know who we are and that, in some situations, could sway it.

we need to sign quality players of course, but more importantly they must buy into our team spirit . fuchs for example was a perfect signing, because he's quality on and off the pitch.

i'd say our team spirit is better than over half the clubs in the league. it's something which can give us an edge next season.

Agree with most people have put here apart from the one idiot reply lol

anyway last night will help when it comes to the summer and club stature!!

A good run in the CL and in the League until the end of the season and last summer's Aura will be partly restored. Enough to bring quality new players and even keep some of those who are deeemd to go.

I don’t think we needed to go out and sign superstars with the money we earned from winning the tite, I think that was the true mistake. I would have been happy with Robbie Brady, Michael Keane and Troy Deeney in the summer… very happy… but I think a lot of fans had illusions of grandeur and were obsessed by these expensive foreign signings (Musa mainly, but add Mendy and to a lesser extent Slimani to that).   I remember hearing a lot in the summer that we needed players with “champions league experience” – and you think Musa is our most decorated UCL player and he hasn’t really been involved has he.

The status from winning the league has definitely put us a peg above the likes of West Brom, Stoke and Swansea. I think we are on a level with Southampton (due to their great set up), West Ham (location) and Everton (tradition).

Good post by the way, interesting one to think about

Mid table about 10th or 11th. Ahead of Burnley, Boro, Sunderland, Hull, Watford, Bournemouth, Palace and probably West Brom. On a par with West Ham and maybe Stoke. Just below Soton and Everton and obviously the top 6.

Think the nationality of current players may have an affect ie Mahrez = Slimani last year

Can see Lukaku going to Spurs to join up with quite a few of the Belgium squad

Obviously not the deciding factor for a move but something to bare in mind

I mean a lot of it is cosmetic, but at the end of the day that's what footballers love. I saw Sigs being interviewed for an episode of the Premier League show a few weeks back, if I could compare it to anything it's got the feel of one of those trendy new offices for a company with a CEO who is 25 lol It might be very "Anti Football" but it's what these pampered lads want at the end of the day!

They've also made a lot of improvements to their actual facilities too, gym etc.

The gym at our training ground, as someone who has been workout for a fitness company for a while now, is just beyond funny, it's so outdated it's amazing our fitness levels are as high as they are. (This is something a lot of clubs struggle with to be fair, they hate spending money on equipment which leads to players seeking out personal trainers/gyms like Deeney with Anthony Joshua's coach)

last summer we had a great opportunity to attract players to Leicester.  We blew it.

When we win the CL this year we will have another opportunity- I hope we will not fail twice.
