Shakespeare only 3rd English manager to....

Recommended Posts

This needs its own recognition, not because he did it alone, he didnt, but because it will go into the history books of

not only the PL, but also in the forefront of Leicester's achievements and triumphs.

Shakespeare is only the 3rd Englishmanager to reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League...

Like his historic namesake the great scribe, our own shakey is writing his own dramas, comic parodies, and

fairytail ramblings. The KP, is slowly becoming the new globe theater, but we have the pleasure of the reality of it

while we actually sit down.. (globetheater is a standing theater )..

You couldnt make it up...!!!   downtrodden masses, Italian flair, shear bloody mindness, fearless, British and African doggedness,

mixed with raw danish plundering and fight....Maybe a hint of outside backstabbing to add that je ne sais quoi...

ps...forgot the Vorsprung durch forearm...touch..sort of Shakespeare meets Goethe..:P

I think in the years to come leicester city will be the answer to a lot of pub quiz questions.

He's not though is he. The European Cup was founded early 50s, it got a rebrand that's all, it's still the same competition.

Id' tend to agree, but I'd also argue robustly with a Forest fan that claimed they had won the Champions League.

It really isn't. It's a completely different format with completely different ways of qualifying for it. It's not straight knockout games against the champions of Belarus.

The Champions League is more like an amalgamation of the European Cup, the UEFA Cup and the Cup Winners' Cup

Thats true of the transition from the Football League to the Premier League, but tbf, the Champions League is completely different to what the European Cup was for better or worse and isn't just a simple rebranding.

So only 3 English managers have reached the quarter finals of the European Cup for nearly 25 years? That's a pretty damning stat about the state of English managers.

Totally different make up, no comparisons to the yesteryears.

Sometimes we fans nag at the authority changes, but the New CL, has been brilliant IMO.

More teams involvement, meaning more fans feeling part of the tournament, for longer.

Its a slow process, but money and success is sifting through to each 1st 2 divisions of each european  New/old Countries.

Rich tend to stay rich, but now we see others coming through their slipstreams.Infrastructure, pitches , coaching improving.

More Names being remembered, and finding Work.Oh its not perfect where there is money there is corruption and downright

Stupid incompetence, but the world is getting smaller, "I will never see common sense rule", but off field success, and access

take its natural forward New made  paths.

This new brand was a Great  new stride, but its far from perfect, plus we are part of it, which initself is a plus....

Long live, the A.Villas, Forests, Derby, then the Sevilas, Portos, reborn Chelseas, PSGs, and then the Donesks and Leicesters.

Its not the Bayerns or Barcelonas that rewrite the true history of football, great has it is...it will always be those that defy

the norm...long live the ' who/what the hells'..!!

WE are the solid base and fundament of good ol' pub questions for the tomorrows...

Your Gran-kids could be on mastermind because of it...

It's a different format but it's the same competition. Real Madrid have won the competition 11 times, not 5 times.

Case closed right there

It's alot more than that I hate it when people make out football only began either when the premier league started or when the champions league was revamped.

Struggling to think of who the two are, I'd imagine Bobby Robson is one

Yep, plus Harry Redkapp at Spurs I think...

Plus all the many others before it was called the CL lol

It's chalk and cheese to the old European Cup. It's as old as the Premier League and the updated format (based on a group stage) makes it as good as a different competition. Much like the old UEFA Cup really isn't the same as the UEFA Europa League.

ps. No Romanian part-timers in the UCL.

Strange people...there was no case being made..

The case being.....

Although I'm as proud as anyone for Shakey, it's a bollux record really.

Suggesting he's only one of three English Managers to qualify for quarter finals of the Europe's premier club competition, dismisses all achievements pre '92. And as we all know, football started way before 1992.

In fact if you Google 'when did the Champions League start?' it shows you this:

UEFA Champions League/First event date:

4 September 1955

So Shakey, Robson and Redknapp get at the back of the queue behind the likes of Clough and Fagan etc. really...

Leave me alone...I just like straw clutching.  Especially when the media twists it to the positive.

I have been fighting plastics for a thousand yrs, now I just try once to join them, you all want to piss on my parade..!!!

Shakespeare deserves his pound of flesh...

" our battle is more of names than yours

Our men more Perfect in the use of arms

Our armour all as strong,Our cause the best

Then reason will our hearts should be as good"

If the great Bard can bullshit, so can I.....The cause gives me right, and damn the facts...

It is different and should have been launched as a different competition albeit replacing the European Cup they also should call it the European League not the Champions League where the winners are crowned European League Champions.

The didn't differentiate it because they need to ride on the history, glamour and kudos that was the European Cup.

lollol Top man

I don't want to piss on your chips mate, but I'm old skool like you and just get annoyed sometimes that the media seem to forget that there was football before the Champions League and Premier League.

It's almost like it's all forgotten history and not relevant anymore, which makes me a bit sad...:(

History pre 1992 wont be forgotten, and never should it,....but 1992 changed the whole landscape...for the CL.

More teams ( top 2 to 4) from the same league qualify. No longer Straight  Knock out games. But with leagues, with

Seedings. Personally.. I believe its an  improved Format, but those great nights from the fifties through to the 90s

where possible should not be forgot. By its make up, it has become better and harder, more entertaining, over

Most games. The fans count and more can now take part....

We all evolve on all stages, and all eras should be respected...for their own unique recognised legends.

I could be a grumpy ol man, I prefer to recognise the changes and developements that open great new paths and platforms.

I must say tho'  nothing beats the music of the 60s n 70s, ask my kids!!!...:D

Ps, muzzy you couldnt hit my chips, plus a bit of vintage malt might give me a  pick up and bite...:trumpet:
