Guest CityFan 06 Posted 2 May 2017 Posted 2 May 2017 I can see him moving if we buy two or more CB's in the summer. Otherwise, I think we should keep as an option.
fuchsntf Posted 2 May 2017 Posted 2 May 2017 Sentiments and gratitude always plays a big part, in fans perspectives. Huth and Morgan, legends from the previous season, looked broke this season. Then the turn around. Huth looked solid again, Benny came in and did a sterling job. IMHO, if push came to shove, forgetting sentiments, or likes/dislikes. Huth I would keep, I would move on from 1st choice..Benny and Morgan. Depending on what quality, the who and how many we can bring in for the CB position (s), Would depend on who we chose to stay if any. WMorgans back??? Will it be re-occuring? Could keeping Benny, save us Money, so we can save on needed cover. For me, Benny proved me right, he can Play PL standard, its just is he too old to expect , some improvement...look at Huth some thought after Stoke he was finished.I reckon he could give us 1-2 seasons more, in a 1st choice roll. If all 3 are kept but phased out over the next season, thats also fine by me. If demand was a choice, I would demand at least...a top quality CB/young quality for cameos/Bring a CB on from the ranks. Expect..2 high class CBs, ready to hit ground running, with young quality from within.Huth to hang around. Cruel on Benny and Morgan...yup. !

I think he's been a stand out player in recent games, and I've seen him have 1 bad game in total since he's been here, though admittedly I didn't see Millwall away. Morgan and Huth have had very dodgy seasons and aren't getting any younger. Benny wasn't "stand-out" against Everton or Palace so there's no point over-promoting his case, Morgan and Huth have been fine since they stopped being left exposed to being overwhelmed by runners from midfield. I don't see that their age matters much - they've never played like Olympic athletes - just as solid stoppers. Benny's more mobile but not as solid against the toughies. Seems to me that all three are okay, given a balanced team selection, and well able to help us mount another challenge. If we can sign another centre-back who sets a new standard for all three to aspire to so much the better because that's the way it should be. Genuine competition for every position.
s11nny Posted 2 May 2017 Posted 2 May 2017 He's a good option to have at the moment and would be comfortable with him staying. However, I'd be happy to let him go once and only once we have signed 2 more quality CB.
WigstonWanderer Posted 2 May 2017 Posted 2 May 2017 At most we only need 1 CB if he stays. We then have newbie, Huth, Morgan, Benny, with Simpson and Fuchs able to deputise particularly in a 3. Any more would just mean players not getting time even on the bench.

Fuchs and simmo have played 40 mins in a 3 and now they are contenders there? Remember when Fuchs played at the back against Chelsea?

Patch up Morgan who hadn't played for weeks and drop Benny who had been playing well consistently for a few games.. that was probably very telling to him about what will happen when Morgan is fit again.. PLUS they are looking for another CB and when you look at the names linked, they don't sound like bench warmers to me.. so Benny is probably thinking that this is his chance to secure a decent move to a ( semi) decent club as he's been playing well in front of tv cameras and so his stock is the highest it's been for a couple of years now and probably wants to grab the opportunity and benefit from it. If you're talking about Atletico, Benny played. Morgan was patched up because Huth was suspended.

Remember when Fuchs played at the back against Chelsea? I said deputise, 4 others ahead. 40 mins is insufficient as you say, but was encouraging. I vaguely remember Claudio trying 3 at the back once in a half arsed way with Hernandez as a right wing back. Seemed a complete shambles as if no one knew what they were supposed to be doing. Was that the Chelsea one? If so I don't think that should be taken as evidence either way. Can't see we'd need 5 CBs when we don't have any European competition.

Not bad considering Huth and Morgan have made a career out of kicking the ball out of the stadium.

BlueTillIDie Posted 3 May 2017 Posted 3 May 2017 These links get worse! However if true take the money. He has proved a good stop gap and squad player but if offered half decent money take it.
Guest Posted 5 May 2017 Posted 5 May 2017 Is it only me that thinks he's done a decent job recently. A defender who doesn't look afraid of receiving the ball! I think it should depend on wat he wants. Is he happy to be a squad player and try to fight for a place. Or does he want guaranteed football.
Thracian Posted 6 May 2017 Posted 6 May 2017 Today was another plus for Benny and further evidence suggesting he's becoming an increasingly trusted and important member of the clan. I don't think it really matters which two or three are best although, yes, it might affect our requirements in terms of squad strengthening. What's import to me is having another reliable player who's good enough for Premiership football at the level to which we aspire. One of Shakespeare's great strengths seems to be his ability to get people wanting to play for him, for the club and as part of what we're trying to do. The more that happens the more we'll be able to properly compete in the cup competitions as well as the league while, up to now, we've never really had the depth of quality to cope. Hopefully, this close season will see us emerge with even more of the added strength we require. I don't mean signings in any great number, Ours is a damned good team when it's happy. I mean the arrival of more - and entirely acknowledged - quality. And the kind of people who fit in with the way we are. Because it's that chemistry makes us special. And, from what I can see, it's back to being about as strong as it ever was.

We'll surely be bringing in a centre back this summer and ideally Huth and Morgan fighting it out to be their partner with the other being on the bench. Benalouane has done okay this last month or so but he's still well behind Morgan and Huth . I don't trust the link as I've never heard of it but anything like our money back and he's gone for me. Really, I wouldn't say he's behind Morgan, he's been as good, if not better, as his calmness on the ball, and distribution adds something

Gerard Posted 10 May 2017 Posted 10 May 2017 Morgan is way ahead of Benalouane. Benalouane is an adequate squad player, no more than that.

UPinCarolina Posted 10 May 2017 Posted 10 May 2017 Yohan is a capable deputy and a potential replacement should Huth or Morgan suddenly drop off in form or acquire an injury. He's not an upgrade, but few would be in this side. That said, I hope that we can keep him and use the 3 of them like a unit in the back. That could save the legs of Huth and Morgan, and we might coax another strong season out of them, while allowing Benalouane to maintain an active place in the side. He's certainly earned the right to compete for meaningful starts.

So Benny is the better defender because he tries more difficult passes up the field? Logic at its finest I love Benny and he has done a great job in Morgan's place but Morgan is the better all round defender.

He tries the play the ball sometimes I'll give him that, but the execution has been poor of late. These were his passes against Watford, he got us into trouble 4 times with a similar pass, where we had a lot of men committed forward and he allowed his passes to be intercepted behind our midfield. That's bloody dangerous and could have been punished against a better team. Against West Brom he went far straighter and gave the ball away more times than he completed a pass. See the other screen shot. Benny has contributed admirably, there are a lot of things about him to admire and I hate to come across overly negative. But it's only because I've witnessed to shocking games with the ball to continually read how good he was on the ball.
