Benalouane

West Ham are considering a move for Leicester City centre back Yohan Benalouane, according to Footmercato.net.

The French website report that the Frenchman will be available in the summer after spending two seasons at the King Power stadium.

The 30 year old joined the Foxes from Atalanta for €8million in August 2015 as one of Claudio Ranieri’s first signings but he failed to establish himself in the first team as Wes Morgan and Robert Huth established themselves as the first choice centre back pairing.

He was sent out on loan to Fiorentina in January last season but failed to play a game for the Viola because of injury. The Serie A club refused to pay Benalouane’s wages because they felt deceived by Leicester about the extent of the defender’s fitness problems.

After the controversy, he returned to Leicester for the start of this season but was confined to reserve team football until the New Year. He has now been reinstated to first team duties, playing 11 games in all competitions for the club so far this season.

when it says is available in the summer does it mean he only had a two year contract. Or just bollox?

Think they mean that we are happy to sell. I'm 99% sure he signed a 4 year deal.

Can't see him going anywhere unless we reinforce heavily tbh.

We sell him and only buy one other then we're in no better a situation really.

Why would we sell? He's proved a very decent option that should have been utilised much more! Only bad game he had was Everton which some blame I'm going to attribute to the change of full backs.

So is he still a ranieri signing now he's turned out to be decent?

No reason to sell really, unless we're making wholesale changes at centre back in the summer.

Why would we want to sell him, he's in good form and shown a terrific attitude whilst waiting in the wings. Who would we replace him with that wouldn't cost a lot more than we'd get and be reasonably happy to be a squad player? unless Wague is a lot better than his stat's suggested and we take the option to buy him (I thought he had a fair game up to his injury).

Sell, sell, sell.

We'll surely be bringing in a centre back this summer and ideally Huth and Morgan fighting it out to be their partner with the other being on the bench.

Benalouane has done okay this last month or so but he's still well behind Morgan and Huth .

I don't trust the link as I've never heard of it but anything like our money back and he's gone for me.

Yohan Benalouane

Disappointed there wasn't a riot when Knocky was sold

it would be a shame as he has looked at last like he is settling in here but if we can recoup the money we paid for him and sign a top class defender from somewhere!. we need someone steady and who we can trust to be reliable.

Benny found it tough when he first came here as Wes and Huth were on such good form as well as you always got the feeling with Benny he might get sent off or put in a bad challenge!

Think people may may be discounting the fact he might want regular first team football and that he's been patient enough to get it..

our most important game EVER and what did they do? Patch up Morgan who hadn't played for weeks and drop Benny who had been playing well consistently for a few games..

that was probably very telling to him about what will happen when Morgan is fit again.. PLUS they are looking for another CB and when you look at the names linked, they don't sound like bench warmers to me..

so Benny is probably thinking that this is his chance to secure a decent move to a ( semi) decent club as he's been playing well in front of tv cameras and so his stock is the highest it's been for a couple of years now and probably wants to grab the opportunity and benefit from it.

If he really wants to leave then obviously he should be allowed to go, otherwise I think we would be silly to sell him. He has turned out to be a very capable player, seems to be a good character to have around and waited patiently for an opportunity when most would have sulked.

If he's prepared to accept that he probably won't be first choice for every match next season he would be very useful.

Anyway, with more PL matches who's to say he won't get better yet.

I personally wouldn't sell Benalouane, think he's come on very nicely indeed and is a good squad member. Presuming Wasilewski is released we'd only have Huth, Morgan and Benalouane so unless we are absolutely certain of two good quality incoming CB's the need to offload Benalouane, save to balance the books (unlikely as money isn't really an issue) or if the player wants to go (less likely under Shakespeare), isn't really there in my opinion.

Think we could definitely fetch the £5.6million we paid for him though. I daresay, even though he's only made a handful of appearances for us in two years, we've enhanced his profile in the game and he's more used to English football now.
