Rocket-Ron Posted 18 May 2017 Share Posted 18 May 2017 Not a big Audioslave/Soungarden fan. But did a tremendous effort for the casino royal theme tune. What a voice RIP
StanSP Posted 18 May 2017 Share Posted 18 May 2017 shocked hearing this, especially as he was bang in the middle of a tour. Cochise is one of my favourite Audioslave songs. He will be missed. RIP

GeorgeTheFox Posted 18 May 2017 Share Posted 18 May 2017 This one hit me harder than I ever thought a celebrity death could. So many of his songs have such a deep personal meaning to me. What a talent, gone too young
purpleronnie Posted 18 May 2017 Share Posted 18 May 2017 Oh my this is a shock. I'm a big Pearl Jam fan and one of the first things PJ did was the Temple of the dog album with Soundgarden. Amazing singer. R.I.P

purpleronnie Posted 19 May 2017 Share Posted 19 May 2017 What a song still sounds great. Eddie's about the only lead singer still alive from the big grunge groups.

Yeah man, Weiland went, what, 2015? Kurt and Layne years back. It's interesting really because the scene is born out of this wave of late twentieth century angst and depression and that's very much the mood of the subculture. These guys spoke to a hell of a lot of people that felt disassociated with society, who were struggling in their lives. I suppose it's not such a surprise that they were able to relate to their audience so well because they were often all struggling themselves. Not a natural death amongst them. Someone needs to get Eddie to a shrink quicksharp.

Yeah, and they often go ridiculed for being miserable etc...Although there was plenty of humour that the press missed there were issues that they spoke/sung about. Eddie seems to have exercised any demons he had growing up, but even from the outset the song Alive which was written as a pretty dark song has now changed into a celebration of life for him which is great. MC Prussian Posted 20 May 2017 Share Posted 20 May 2017 Was given anti-anxiety pills (Ativan) and seemingly took a higher dosage than allowed, then hanged himself. Although it's mere conjecture whether the medication or the overdose in itself was the main reason for the suicide or whether he truly wanted to kill himself. Such a shame. A great voice no longer echoes in the hallways.
