Huge summer ahead!

Recommended Posts

This summer is massive for us as we all know.

It will define if we push on towards European  places next season or if we slip back down into a relegation battle.

Other teams will also be looking for managers, Watford and possibly southampton, so the owners need to ensure we get the right person.

I like shakespeare alot and hes done a great job keeping us up when we looked down and also the champs league.

However, we cannot underestimate how big a job this will be. We need a total overhaul of players and tactics. We know we cant keep playing like we have for the past 2 years as teams are aware of our threats.

Our best players may get poached and our lesser players need to be moved on.

So the new manager (be it shakey  or someone else) needs to

1. Persuade our stars to stay.

2. Clear out the deadwood.

3. Sign at least 5-6 new top players.

4. Think up a new way of us playing so we dont just rely on long balls to vardy.

5. Build a squad capable of challenging in the top 7.

Not an easy task!

Probably losing Mahrez, Vardy and Kasper. May well need 8 players in. Going to be very tough indeed.

Cant see vardy leaving but there is a big possibility the other 2 will

I don't think we'll be losing Vardy. We play his system, he's 30 and is on a big fat wage.

Got to do something in midfield. We are absolutely devoid of quality in that area. We can defend and score goals but the midfield is dire. Probably why we always try to boot the ball over that area

Ndidi is a talent but thats it. We have decent players for the wings with Albrighton and Gray but we will need some competition for them 2. In the middle, like you say, its dire. We know there is a good player in Drinkwater but he has been so poor this season. We need 2 top quality centre mids and 2 top quality centre backs and then build up from there

No chance Vardy goes. Schmeichel and Mahrez are 99% for me.

Can't see anyone else leaving for greater things but I can see a few going out on loan.

I think Shakespeare will try and keep everyone. The rumours of a two year deal for aging Ulloa back-up my thoughts.

You're spot on there.

Kasper and riyad look likely to go, Wasyl is definitely out. Slimani and Musa are possibilities and Ulloa depends on what Slimani does. Then there's the fringe players, Lawrence, Kapustka who might think their futures lie elsewhere and if there are silly bids for Drinkwater and Morgan, who knows?

We could easily lose 5 to 8 players.

I hope Kasper stays. Vardy will stay.

Mahrez Slimani Musa out hopefully.

Not sure about Shakey now. We need him as coach.

Maybe Roger Schmidt as manager. ?

Can't see Shakey wanting to stay on as assistant again.

I do like Ulloa and hes been great for us, but its players like him that are just ok and not going to get us into the top 7.

Hes ok as a back up but i personally think it would be unfair for us to keep him here as 3rd/4th choice. He needs to go somewhere and be 1st choice and hes never going to get that here.

We have a few players that are just ok like ulloa, king, james, Benny etc but are they good enough to push us on? I dont think so

Need a new head of recruitment.

Silmani, Musa, Mendy, Amartey, Hernandez, Inler, Kapuska, Wague have all been disasters in one way or another. Even Gray barely gets in the team. Limping through the end of the last game with a back three of Simpson, Amartey, and Fuchs, and Andy King in midfield is shocking given the money we have spent.

Kante and Ndidi have been the only decent signings since Pearson left.

Spot on. I think Gray will prove to be a good signing providing we can keep him and start to give him more game time. Hes only young and has a lot of potential

All these crap players, it makes you wonder how we won the league.

None of the players I listed were in last season's team.

Amartey was.

I think a "total overhaul" is a reaction based on the last few performances. Whilst we have been poor, we looked destined for the drop and we'd have all snapped your hand off for 12th in January. Had the decision gone our way we'd have finished top 10!

There's certainly a transition period coming up as who knows who will be in our squad or managing us come August. But this is not a "nuke it and start from scratch" situation.

I do think we need to freshen things up. We don't want players living on past glories, we need a few hungry lads with something to prove.

He's right though. Simpson is a round peg in a round hole and King is a loyal servant but neither are top class players. Fuchs, Morgan and Huth have declined as footballers in the last 12 months. Mahrez, Schmeichel and possibly (although I agree least likely) Vardy may well be off. Most of our signings since Ranieri arrived have not been good enough for a variety of reasons; see Slimani, Musa, Mendy, Hernandez, Inler, Kapustka, Amartey, Wague.

I think a huge overhaul is needed, the current team and tactic will not deliver sustained success, great as they have been.

Im not sure. If we lose our top players our back up players are not good enough to replace them. A few players had a chance in the last few games to stake a claim for next season and none really took it. We need recruitment in all areas of the pitch and thats before we lose any of our stars. We have too many players that have been good for us but aren't quite good enough to take us forward and a few that have never been good enough.

If we want to be in a relegation battle/aiming for 12th-16th then stick with what we have with just a few recruitments.

If we want to be aiming for europe we need an overhaul.

Its a strange situation to be honest but I think as a club, we need now to appoint a guy with no connections to any of the players so we can start again.

Shaky might be best opting for a Championship club manager's position and having a go at that, taking a few of the fringe players with him.

Mahrez needs to go and find his mojo somewhere and almost start again. Kasper will go and good luck to him to be honest, time he went somewhere and feathered his pension pot. In fact, there are probably about 8 that need to move on, so start shipping them out now is my view.
