He is as solid as they come, no nonsense CB but isn't stone footed (but isn't really Maguire). He can cover as a RB but isn't really that great going forward (think simmo) A bit old for my liking but what you gonna do. From what I saw, a great character and a leader, he was the captain of schalke (still is, but last game he didn't start), he gets well with the young guys and all and all, a class act (from what I saw)

He is good, but not that good! Now teams are looking for young guys that can push forward and he isn't that type

vanity Posted 27 August 2017 Posted 27 August 2017 Problem with Smalling is he isn't a guy you want going forward with the ball, and we desperately need another CB who can handle the ball -- not to go all the way fwd, but just to help with possession a bit. We need to keep introducing players who can handle the ball to the team so we avoid debacles like today, when we we were dispossessed like children.
