And I must have made the point a few times now (without claiming to know all the ins and outs), that the club doesn't seem to be being run very well ever since we clinched the title. I imagine that we panicked when the bigger bid for Drinkwater finally came in and piddled around over whether to finally let him go, or not. When we finally decided to, we then moved in on Silva as a replacement, with very little time to spare, thus making it all very very close. The issue I have is this...if we wanted Silva to join the club, why did we just not target him and acquire him? It was likely that Drinkwater was going to go to Chelsea. He'd made it clear he wanted out and Chelsea had made it clear they wanted him. However, even if Drinkwater hadn't of gone to Chelsea, and we had signed Silva...well so what? We aren't short of money and we would have then had two excellent central midfielders. James/Ndidi could have been used in a rotational basis with either of them, etc etc. It seems like we, as a club, only decided to replace Drinkwater for Silva, once we knew that Drinkwater was going. If this was the case (and I am of course surmising), it was a risky strategy, knowing Silva would be an international transfer and the timescale would be incredibly tight. So I think we have bought this on ourselves to some extent, because we didn't just target Silva and acquire him, regardless of what happened with Danny. It feels like we played Russian Roulette a little over all of this and I only hope it gets sorted in our favour. Just a note for the future. Don't become Harry Redknapp and wheel and deal on the eve of deadline day. Acquire your targets in advance and get your house in order with time to spare. Exactly this. Whats worse, we ****ed around a year ago when we wanted him. Twelve months we had to sort it out. Ive found this episode quite dispiriting tbh.
87fox Posted 8 September 2017 Posted 8 September 2017 It's been removed now but after the news broke ex-player Liam Moore 'liked' a post on Twitter saying Jon Rudkin should be sacked and was a liability. Maybe he just doesn't like Rudkin or maybe he has some insight that we don't.
Arriba Los Zorros Posted 8 September 2017 Posted 8 September 2017 Been banned a couple of days, are we still hailing this chump as a transfer hero?

Again unfortunately this appears to be true yet again. The owners need to look at the infrastructure in detail and make some positive remedial decisions . What looked like being a positive transfer window has descended into farce I feel really sorry for Silva and Shakespeare . Can we have some dignity in the club please? Inquired about 41 players last January. Could mean anything really.
Chico1958 Posted 9 September 2017 Posted 9 September 2017 Honestly ................... It's just embarrassing. And that's why I'm so p_ssed off

A vey good example of why Micro-management is such a bad thing at the highest levels of any progressive organisation

Guest Chocolate Teapot Posted 12 September 2017 Posted 12 September 2017 I've been critical of him, but I'll also say he's improved and our business has got better over the summer. Playing the big man and Drinky and squeezing out the extra 5m may not have been a good negotiation however. My view is he's been over promoted to the role he's now in, and is out of his depth - getting the deal over the line in time is his domain as he looks after all transfer incomings and goings. I'm also fuming.....still....they allowed Walsh to go and I hold Rudkin responsible for this. I have explained why a few times before, but there were ways they could have kept him.

If anyone still thinks there is no proof Rudkin is shite and an absolute self interested ass kisser, you only need look at what people that know some of the ins and outs of the club have to say about him. Too many people for it to be a myth. The man's a clown but he does clearly know how to influence others - the worst type of manager. In the same way that barely nobody that knew Nigel Pearson and Walsh had a bad word to say about them.

It did look like he was improving to be fair to him, business was swift where it needed to be apart from the last day. We'll never know the full ins and outs but, it's clear something went tits up. If Chelsea hadn't come in people would be pretty happy with what had gone on. Learning on the job in such a high up position could always end in tears.

It might help if he didnt try to micro-manage every area of the club and focussed on the most important tasks while he was 'growing' into his role.. Insecurity in the elevated and unfamilar position he finds himself and over-inflated sense of self-importance would appear to be his key failings...

What evidence have we of improvement ? Yes we approve of certain signings but that's not any evidence of improvement
