That Slimani shot

I can't be the only one wondering what people are talking about with "he should have passed to Vardy".

The pass to Vardy was not there, even for a tenth of a second.

It was there for a split second which would have been enough for De Bruyne or Hazard or half a dozen other players but Mahrez mistake was running down the middle of the pitch. He needed to change his angle very slightly to force the defender to choose whether to stay with him or cover vardy. Instead he ran straight or more towards Vardy.

It was a 2 on 1 there is no excuse.

It was a shot that could have changed the outcome to the game and I've read a lot of negative comments about it but if my recall is correct it was Slimani who stole the ball back on the edge of his own box and then played a perfect and quick pass to Marhez to give Marhez and Vardy a 2 on 1 against Chelsea. Slimani then made a great effort to follow our two stars up the pitch to be available if necessary. He was passed the ball and had a shot on target which was well saved by Courtois. Chelsea then went and scored down the other end.

I don't understand the negativity to Slimani here at all.

Mahrez should have drawn the defender and given the ball to Vardy for a 1 on 1 with the GK. That was the mistake here. Their goal wasn't Slim's fault either.

What do the rest of you think?

Spot on ...    don't understand what the big deal is tbh ...    just the usual cudda shudda sh1te.

Mahrez's set up for Slimani was perfect . Maybe he should have scored but Mahrez's decision was vindicated.

But Mahrez created a very good chance in the end. The end justified the means so it's extremely harsh to criticise Mahrez's decision.

I think being more direct and playing to Vardy would have been better, but that way Mahrez wouldnt have reached his quota for number of touches in a game. I'm starting to feel very uncomfortable seeing Mahrez start every game. Would really like to see him on the bench next week. Gray is right to be annoyed, not because he's so brilliant, but because he plays for a team which puts Mahrez on a pedestal despite so many reasons not to

The pass to Vardy was not there, even for a tenth of a second. From the moment Mahrez picks up the ball Azpilicueta's positioning is perfect - it forces Mahrez to carry it forward. Slimani's support run is perfectly timed, the weight of the pass is good from Mahrez and the shot from Slimani (it's not a "dink" is it - he connects with it well) is going in the far corner. Courtois' positioning, body shape and reactions are spot on.

A chipped pass over Azpilicueta would likely have skipped away from Vardy, a through ball would have had to have been absolutely inch perfect to even give him a chance of reaching it before Azpi (who is quick) or Courtois.

Chelsea defended a really difficult situation perfectly, full marks to Azpilicueta and Courtois.

I agree on the whole, especially about the pass to Vardy not ever really being on... except, I can't help feel there was a gapping hole to slot the ball low inside Courtois' near post.

Difference being the market wasn't so outrageous last summer (Still crazy but not as bad.)

Drinkwater isn't worth £35m in a normal market but in this market i'd say £35m is about right, Slimani isn't worth £30m even in this market.

Not his fault but who says i'm blaming him for that? I'm not, he was a panic buy we should have left well alone. Just another case of why we need to get rid/upgrade the powers that be who deal with our transfers.

It makes me wonder how much we'd have had to pay for Slim THIS summer!

Scary and the people that deal with our transfers would have paid it...but they wouldn't shell another £5m (Or £15m more compared to Slimani's £30m) to attempt to try and sign Sigurdsson. Pathetic.

We could have offered £55m for Siggy, but he didn't want to come here, and we all knew it. Fruitless persuit of a player, in the end. Was never going to sign for us.

It's not just that one shot though is it ?

He's had numerous chances come to his feet in the time he's been with us and the vast majority he fails to convert.

I'm sorry but he doesn't look up to it.

Let's give Slim, Grey and  Chilwell game time. Not going to happen. This is the Premier League you can't afford to carry anyone.

Go see his shooting efficiency last season, and see if he fails to convert most of his chances. Every player fails chances, Vardy missed a lot last season and never got slated like this here.

You have to see why Leicester paid that. He was top 10 in the golden boot that year, that is why Sporting asked for that and Leicester paid that, he isn't worth it and had a release clause of 30M€ just a month before Leicester bought him, but considering he was top 10 in the golden boot, I don't think it was that bad of a rip-off.

Mahrez did the right thing, Vardy path was closed by two defenders, and Slimani was alone, the only problem from Mahrez in that play, is that the pass was a bit too wide for Slimani, that is why he had to try to dink, because the pass at least for me was a bit too wide.

Fair enough, just trying to defend my club. He isn't worth 35 million, but as he was top 10 in golden boot, of course his price was high just saying.

That's fair enough, of course you are trying to defend you club and well done for getting that much for him, we all want as much as we can get for players.

It's my club and the people who deal with our transfers i'm fed up with.

I thought Slimani did ok yesterday. Vardy should have made more of two of his chances though. I thought James could've played better same as Albrighton and Gray.

Agreed.

But now I've read the match and post-match thread I'm convinced that Slimani and King were the only ones responsible for the defeat.

There's no guarantee that Vardy would have scored either. You can blame Slimani for not scoring if you like but Mahrez couldn't have done any better.

I dont blame slim for that. Think Mahrez made something simple more complicated in that chance and all match

Did well to win the ball back and the finish wasn't a bad one. In hindesight he shouldve squared it. Surprised he's being criticised for it though. Not his fault we conceded 60 seconds later.

Personally I feel Kasper has been lucky to escape more harsh criticism. He's excellent but that shot from Kante should have been saved.
