Gavin and Stacey is an average sitcom.
It’s ok without ever being brilliant.

And is being rammed down our throats via endless trailers and promotion on TV and on BBC radio.

There's even a G and S takeover show on R2 breakfast next week.

The media obsession with Luke Littler at the moment. Yeah, he’s young, he’s pretty good at darts but up for Sports Personality Award? Would have been a travesty if he’d won. Win something consistently and then you should be up for the award. Kind of feel the same way when people get awarded for being almost good - like if Gareth Southgate got knighted for not actually winning anything.

Defo an unpopular view so not gonna argue lol. But his personality and popularity has clearly transformed his sport in 2024. First year in ages I couldn’t get anywhere near a ticket for ally pally. For that reason I’d say he’s a good bet for sports personality of the year

I think to win SPOTY you should actually compete in some kind of sport not play a pub game.

Tell Steve "interesting" Davis that.

How does the word "personality" come into it, in most cases they don't have a lot of "personality".

What about the time Nigel Mansell won it?

Watched Amelie the other day for the first time.  I generally like French cinema, so not sure why it took me so long.  For a film that seems to have been universally praised by all and sundry, I thought it was extremely disappointing.  Yes the cinematography is great and the first half of the film is watchable enough, but the last hour of the film really drags.  As for Amelie herself, quite possibly one of the most irritating characters ever imo.  I got sick of the sight of her ‘cheeky little grins’ to the camera and the film should have ended with her being pushed under the metro.  Feel good film, my bum bum.

I really liked it back in the day when I used to collect DVDs and buy lots of foreign films. I saw it again last year and it was ok, but like you say, too much 4th wall breaking.

Audrey Tautou did a much better film IMO called - He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not. It's a clever twist on a romantic comedy. Still has a 7.1 rating on IMDB after all these years too.

The occasional Betty Blue, but mostly Korean horror and action. Plus French comedy/dramas and Spanish stuff from Pedro Almodovar.

Have you watched Officer Black Belt?

Nothing "fresh" about what he's doing. The unpopular opinion would be to agree with him, but sayings it's fresh is nonsense as he's dusting off the 1930s playbook. Inciting race riots and pushing far right conspiracy theories through his own personal propaganda tool with the sole purpose financially enriching himself.

Good to see my opinion is unpopular :P.

Depressing thing is that it isn't.

Darts isn’t a sport.

Neither is Cheerleading, Chess, Poker, Greyhound Racing, Pigeon Racing, Bull Fighting, Falconry, Fishing, Marbles, Pool, Snooker, E-Sports, Professional Wrestling, Pole Dancing or Avocado Launching,

I don't think the professional wrestling you're referring to calls itself a sport by and large. Hence the term "sports entertainment", baby
