Oven chips are better than chip shop chips

That's an awful opinion.

Oven chips are dry as hell and have very little taste. The correct order is:

Homemade > chip shop > KFC fries > McDonald's fries > McCain MicroChips > cardboard > oven chips

Agree with this. I can recommend homemade using maris piper. Spuds are very prone to seasonal changes. Best between August to November. Golden fluffy chips and not greasy. Oven chips are so inferior.

Covid has sadly proven a lot of this true.

So, repeated for emphasis.

Isn't that essentially the EU?

I'm sure we've been through this before but I fully agree with you though.

MicroChips are surely worse than oven chips, they were awful last time I had them about 15 years ago when my taste in food was crap so I cant imagine they are better than a goose or duck fat oven chip

All chips are grossly inferior to other forms of potato side dish.

Mash potato, baked potatoes, roast potatoes, new potatoes in butter with herbs or garlic, hash browns, croquettes and the absolute decadent king of all - the dauphinoise.

All forms of "chips" and "fries" are wildly underwhelming.

It would be the EU in a more ideal world, yeah.

Sadly the one we have isn't ideal.

They're not ideal but at least have some moisture content in them.

Now you're just trying to be controversial. They're the only thing worse than oven chips because they basically are oven chips whacked in an awful deep fat fryer.

Still vastly superior to the Western world's antiquated obsession with the nation state though.

They're cheap cash and carry bags of oven chips. Doesn't matter how they're cooked they're crap.

That may well be true, but the cooking makes all the difference. Undoubtedly in the same fat as the spring rolls and the deep fried chicken balls

Chinese chips are lovely, it shouldn't even be a discussion.

No disagreement there, on the matter of issues that require a unified response, anyway.

Chinese chips are the best.

They might be of inferior quality, they might not, but as Deb says, the distinctive fat that they're cooked in gives them amazing taste and texture.

Chinese chips are terrible and I agree with @Finnegan that chips are the worst form of potatoes, only beaten by an uncooked potatoe to the title of worst potatoe form.

Chips are the food of the Gods when they're done properly. You're eating your chips in the wrong places @Finnegan  @Samilktray if you think they fall down the potato loveliness charts, you're both welcome out here anytime to be converted :)

Ah, you've just reminded me, I've not had patatas bravas for years.

Need to make some this week!

I don't hate chips, let's be clear about this, it's just one of the most boring ways you can cook your potatoes.

I do agree with this actually.

If I go out for a steak then I ask if I can have mash instead of chips. But at home I prefer homemade chips with a steak.

And homemade chips with gravy and then half an Oxo cube sprinkled over the top (it half melts into the gravy giving a big beefy kick) is absolutely lush.
