Crystal Palace could offload Andros Townsend to Leicester in January in order to fund new striker

Didn't we win the league with a bunch of unfancied players with a point to prove?

Townsend would fit into that, he has the talent but has slipped away recently with the right work rate and attitude he would be an asset. The question is whether we would be able to get the best out of him.

If there is any forward strategy in this club the architect should really go asap

Its really shambolic directionless and downright amateurish.

We have several recent signings who are poor or we don’t know cus the never feature

End of last season we had no centre back cover this time no real midfield or rb cover

We are supposed to be an ambitious forward looking club aren’t we? Aren’t we?

A player sold by a team that didn't won any game yet for Crystal Palace spend the money in another player is not a player for LCFC.

At least if Leicester City ambitions isn't fight for last in Premier.

We also had a World Class player that run midfield, which we don't have anymore.

You're right....

We don't have a midfield anymore!

I'm hoping/assuming this is just lazy paper talk because we really do not need more wingers or forwards.

But we didn't sign a world class player, we signed a little fella from the French leagues with a big smile and our scouts had flagged some interesting stats and thought he was worth a punt. If anything our system and style of play made his attributes shine.

It isn't just about signing a world class player, it is looking at what you have, what you need, where you are going and most importantly a big slice of luck. Inler could have had a much bigger impact, we could have built a team around him, kept our 3 at the back from the season before. Schlupp could have starred at LWB and it could have been him that ended up at Chelsea for £35m and Kante disappeared back to the French leagues or ended up in Turkey.

Slimani could have been a huge success and Musa and Gray and Mendy but things don't always work out, I just don't get this obsession with slagging off the club for being linked with players that are a little unfancied. Who would have predicted the success that Kante had or Albrighton, Fuchs, Huth, Simpson, Morgan, Vardy, Drinkwater, Mahrez etc

The difference is, that lot you list cost a combined £15m, and won the title; therefore congratulations to the recruitment team were very much justified.

Meanwhile Slimani, Musa &

Mendy have not performed like PL players let alone anything else for combined fees of almost £60m.

Thats why people at the club are now being slagged off.

However, it has to be said Slimani and Musa were picks of Steve Walsh the bloke who was at the helm to bring in all the title winning ‘gems’.

If I didn’t know better I’d believe he’d stitched us up with the players that joined after he left.?

Plus Kante was world class when he played for us, and probably was before he was ‘discovered’

The difference being Kante was unexposed, and nobody really knew how good he was or was going to be in this league.

Therefore he was worth a punt.

Townsend by contrast is thoroughly exposed in as much as we all know what he has to offer at this level, and he won’t be getting any better.

The theee key players in that title winning season were all open to improvement for one reason or another; and improve they did.

We can’t always get signings right, but by and large the best one are the ones with scope for improvement.

I take your point but you're talking about players like Musa who cannot be compared to Albrighton or Drinkwater etc. The latter were, as you rightly as, "unfancied players" but the likes of Musa and Slimani weren't. We paid £15mill-£30mill for these players, players with Champions League experience. We absolutely failed last summer - in fact, even now we haven't improved the squad at all (our "best players" are still from our Championship days) - which is why people criticise.

Agree.

Although Slimani/Musa were Walsh picks I'd like to know what his thoughts were regarding prices because I don't think he'd have paid £30mill for Slimani.

The money side of it is now just completely off the scale, you can't even compare this season to last season it's rising exponentially so is our budget. Ndidi cost us more than twice as much as Kante, who was 5 times Vardy.

That doesn't matter. Money has always been stupid in football, it's not just the past few years.

How much did Everton pay for Lineker? Under £1mill?

Cruyff went to Barca for about £3mill.... if Bale is worth £100mill then Cruyff would be worth £500mill.

... It's all relative to the times.

I wasn't comparing prices because the argument can go on forever.... We paid over £15mill for Musa and he cannot control a football.

It's a complete and utter clusterfúck that we won the league largely because we signed unheralded, undervalued players that slotted into the squad perfectly then basically did the opposite. Suddenly the world was aware of procedures which did make things slightly harder but that's no excuse for splurging on players that were disgustingly expensive, didn't fit the system and possibly didn't or don't fit into the squad.

Personall, I think Claudio wanted more autonomy with managing the club which saw Walsh's influence on both signings and training diminish - to our detriment now.

I've got a theory here that Ranieri always wanted Mendy over Kante, went with Kante in the first year, Walsh then wanted Gueye to replace Kante and we signed Mendy instead, and that's why Walsh went.

Correct. We longer have a midfield.
