Did we really? That's nuts. He hadn't played a prem game in years. WTF

Matty James seems a nice bloke but just like Ulloa, wtf were the club thinking? Some moronic decisions have been taken in recent times with contracts and signings.

Hope all this about James jacking it in isn't true. Had the potential to be England quality and a good head on his shoulders. Still rate him highly

......as a good championship standard player.

Sentiment via Shakespeare I reckon. I don't think these players would have got new contracts under Puel.

It's not that nuts if you think about he had a fantastic pre season had been brilliant at Barnsley was wanted by a couple of premier league clubs had less than a year on his deal. Maybe we could have got away with 3 years instead of 4 but nothing to get upset about.

^^^ This ^^^

The Barnsley fans thought he was different class for the injury free half a season they had him on loan. He was a first team player for us before the injury.

I'm sure Matty was happy to sign any contract so wages wouldn't be extorianate and from the club's point of view we either were getting a genuine first team or very good squad player back or we could achieve a decent fee for him with a transfer after his success at Barnsley. As with the Ulloa contract I can see why the club offered both players one.

They may both be injury prone but are both quality imo ...   if we were ever short defensively or in midfield I would have them in in a heartbeat and know there would be no drop in standard ..   that might relate to a few extra points.        They need to be managed carefully and not overplayed.

Huth has a lot of experience, and when he plays I always feel he is the one marshalling the defence, rather than Morgan.  I'm not sure now much of a role he still has in the first team, other than as cover.  But if he could help Maguire with his positioning when defending crosses and when a forward is one-on-one against him, that would be fantastic.

Really like Huth as well, but it's arguably not great for him as Maguire is the future and Morgan (imo) is playing well, not to mention being captain. Nothing whatsoever against him but it's going to be tough to get back in.

I noticed Wes being more vocal than usual on Saturday - even if the outcome wasn't great!

Saw him give Simpson a right bollocking for being out of position at one point.

Yup strange that, because it was Morgan himself who was out of position...

Simpson was left alonr in nomansland trying to cover 2 players because Morgan let his man get away....I have been one of Morgans plaudits, this season especially, but like a few against CP, he had a bad day.

I for one wont use the Soton or CP game, as a standard, for whats positive or negative, about our new set up with Puel, this journey is only at the beginning.Huth and James futures are still

an unknown quantity, can they make a successfull return,???

presumptions are just a waste, on anything Puel

and on squad developements until he and the squad has had time to acclimatize

together, and we have seen if/when the club reacts in the January transfer window, including

how Silva will develope within the 1st choicees heading the squad

Maguire may be the future and Wes the captain but a fully fit Huth is much required following most of our defensive displays this season. He's clearly more of a concern for opponents when defending our free kicks and corners, too.

Claude Puel has confirmed that Leicester City duo Robert Huth and Matty James are one step closer to making their returns from injury.

- Leicester City boss Claude Puel provides his Foxes injury update ahead of facing Manchester United
- The fitness of Matty James and Robert Huth has improved this week, the Frenchman says
- Neither James nor Huth are quite ready to return to first team action just yet

While Saturday’s festive encounter with Manchester United will come too soon, the Frenchman says they have made further progress in training at Belvoir Drive this week.

Huth (ankle) and James (Achilles) have been sidelined for a large proportion of the 2017/18 campaign, but Puel is optimistic that their returns are just around the corner.

“We will see,” the City boss said on Friday afternoon. “For this game, they are not match fit. They have made progress and improved in the training sessions.

The lads trained this morning to prepare for Saturday's visit of Manchester United...

“Perhaps we will see them in future. [The injuries have] finished and now they are working to find an energy to play and come back into the squad. It is the last process for them to come back.”

The visit of United on Saturday will be the first of four matches in 10 days for the Foxes, something Puel says he has to navigate carefully.

“Of course, we have to try to manage this period,” he added. “We’ve got to play four games in 10 days. We play in a period of 10 games in 35 days.

We try to help them recover and rest to keep their performances on the pitch. I work with my staff and all the players to find a good balance about this.

Claude Puel

“It is a crazy period but you need to anticipate and look at the training sessions, looking at the fitness of the players.

"We try to help them recover and rest to keep their performances on the pitch. I work with my staff and all the players to find a good balance about this.”
