Celta Vigo defender Jonny Castro has emerged as a January transfer target for Leicester City, according to reports.

Comfortable playing either in the heart of right-hand side of the defence, Jonny has racked 200 appearances since graduating through Celta’s academy and was a mainstay of Spain’s successful Under-21 squad.

Local media reports in Galicia cite reports in the Leicester Mercury and The Sun which state the Spaniard is a prime target for the Foxes, who’s first-choice right-back Danny Simpson is out injured for five weeks.

The Vigo-native’s contract at Estadio Balaidos runs until June 2019 but he is thought to be open to a move away, with Sevilla also previously linked to his signature.

Leicester have also been linked to the  27-year-old Benfica defender Andre Almeida, a former Portugal international, along with Bournemouth’s Adam Smith.

Yes please. Basing that purely on Sky's La Liga coverage and Football Manager .

I looked at his stats yesterday and his pedigree and profile are exactly the sort of profile I want my club to target.

He has been capped at youth level for Spain all the way from U18 to U21 and has been called up to the national team but never got capped. He's only 23 years of age but played 159 league games for Celta Vigo.

The Mercury got their story from The Sun.

The story is now being reported on Football Espana but I don't know how credible they are and they probably got their story via The Sun.

Would that be the sun that before xmas reported Leicester to recall Barnes from Burnley? Barnsley even my mistake not the sun's.

So we are definitely in for a RB then!

Any chance of a left back?

160 odd appearances for a 23 year old is fairly impressive. Can't say I've seen much bar one or two games on Sky but the commentators used to trot out how Luis Enrqiue thought of him pretty highly

Can play equally as well at LB and RB, which would be ideal for us considering Fuchs and Simpson aren’t getting any younger.

Old radar below, but shows he’s good in possession, passing, intercepting and crossing.

Of the three....

Smith > Castro > Almeida

Castro for me, he's the sort of profile we should be aiming to sign.

Smith is the safe option and players like him will keep you in this league but we will probably neither sell him for profit or kick on with him. I'm not really interested in players who probably will never be good enough for a top six side.

Almedia just seems a bit of a crap signing who is no big improvement on what we have already.

Thank god he has a last name, saw him referred to as just Jonny in the first few links, not sure I can get on board with a non-Brazilian player acting like they only have one name.

That said if he only has Jonny on the back of his shirt it's a no from me.

I'm always nervous when we get a defender that can play either left back or right back.... I Like to buy defenders who can nail down one spot and be bloody good at it... Fuchs can play occasional LCB and do fne, but  dont thnk we'd ever rely on hm as a permanent CB... I just think it makes for a better defender if they can nail down one spot and focus on it...

Jonny is a Right Back but Celta have another lad called Hugo Mallo who is good so they have to fit both in.

You may be right, you may be wrong and I would probably rather sign Castro but always dangerous to write off players unfairly.  Albrighton, Morgan, Huth and Simpson could all be described in the manner you just described Smith and all four played a huge role in use winning the league.  X

TBF Albrighton, Morgan, Huth and Simpson are all players who wouldn't interest a top six side despite their medals.

No disrespect to any of those players as they've been brilliant for us but they're all good PL players and nothing more.

But they all finished top 6.  In fact, they finished top 1.  I think you know what I mean, and I know what you mean.  I just think it can sound arrogant sometimes to dismiss players, no one wants to sound like a Man U fan.  Let's hope whoever we sign is decent. X
