Like all of us, his personal needs and wants come before those of the company he works for. We care about the club, to the players it's just a job.

Erm pretty sure most of us would get the sack if that was our approach to work.

Really? You'd put the firm you work for in front of your home life?

That's the thing.

People tend to think the players are payed to care for them or for the club but fact is, they're paid to entertain you on the pitch and on the pitch only. How would they care about you if they don't know you. They'll only stay if the conditions for them to stay are met. Just like us you can sign a contract and still resign if you find a better job. Sure, there are the odd ones who genuinely develop a sort of "relationship" with the fans and/or the club, but they're more the exception than the rule.

I like him a lot and understand the last 24h circus but the magic is kinda gone a bit after all the shit that happened. But on the other side that's just a job for him. So yeah...

"Sorry boss I can't come to work today because I'm hoping to secure a move to a larger company and I won't be travelling to the team building exercise in case they ring me."  Yeah that would go down well with most people's employers.

I wonder if he and Puel have an understanding. "Riyad, mon frere, we're both French and see les yeux dan les yeux. I've already changed tactics so you can shine. Now, you play your testicules off this season for me and I'll make sure you get your reward. And, to show that I mean business, I'm going to ask for un somme incroyable when those cochons from Man City come sniffing around."

Now for Riyad to hold up his end of the bargain.

Just what is a "good offer" for Mahrez? He is completely in a league of his own, and cannot be replaced with anyone that is available, or not. Mahrez is the pendulum   that makes the team play. Without him we shall go backwards, but not to the point of being cannon fodder. His attitude is what disappoints me. If he doesn't move in this window it will be interesting to see how he performs. If he becomes lazy, then come the summer, will anyone want hi?. Watch this space.

I personally believe he will  still be a Leicester player before morning. :yesyes:

So if a more successful company wanted you and were prepared to pay you loads more you'd turn them down out of loyalty?

He's tried to force the move, maybe he didn't do it in the nicest way but the prize on offer was worth it to him.

That's where it gets a bit different because obviously my employer doesn't have my services signed up to a fixed term contract, if they did though and if the other company was offering them compensation for my services then I would ask them to consider the offer and continue to work for my £100k/week in the meantime before concluding that my life isn't so bad even if I don't get the move.

Personally I think there’s something called ‘class’.

Leicester have been very good for Mahrez. And he for us. We took him from relative obscurity and gave him a big chance. He’s taken that chance brilliantly.

He does not need to rub it in the face of the club, every time there’s renewed interest in him. He could just get on with it, not hand in a transfer request, and let his agent do the dirty work.

To so publically make it clear that he wants to jump ship shows a lack of respect and class. And epitomises the modern day footballer.

Absolutely, can't blame him for wanting a new job, but pulling a sickie to go to a job interview can be a bit of a dick move if things are busy, even if it's totally understandable.

You'd at least take it as annual leave...

Lol. You have no way to know if he's gonna throw a mardy. It's not in his interest to down the tools.

Good god the overreactions here.

he will do it unintentionally, he will probably feel that he won't get his move anyways even if he performs very well, as the asking price will be 200 million next time.

Your first statement..... "Without him we shall go backwards",... no we wont. Silly statement. The team is a sum of it's parts, he's an important first team player but not indispensable. Did Manure go backwards after Ronaldo left?

Secondly... "I personally believe he will  still be a Leicester player before morning". He's already a Leicester player before morning. I think you mean "by, or in", the morning. Yes he will because Leicester approached Man C to come up with an offer that included a MCFC player we wanted and they told basically told us to **** off.

That's what Contracts are for. He may have been badly advised just as he is now.

Isn’t that called “an interview”? ?

Well, employees don't get sold they can resign. Mahrez has been trying to resign for ages now its slavery of the 21st century.

He has about one good game in 10...

So did Mahrez since we won the league, didnt stop our fans rating him at 50-60m last season. He's been decent this season and our fans have doubled his valuation.

Horses for courses. Shaqiri is decent in a woeful team.

You need to take your face for a shit.

This is the most ridiculous thing posted on a subject entirely comprised of ridiculous things. It's also fairly offensive.

I half suspect this has been posted as a submission to Viz's Letterbox.

Did Man Utd go backwards after Ronaldo left? That was the example you chose as a team going from strength to strength after losing a key player?

Yes, they got really shit, really quickly. They have never recovered.
