Grow up and get behind Riyad, or: stop listening to the press and wait and see how he reacts on the pitch

At the same time, he has a gentlemen's agreement with Ranieri and Vichai.

Were you there to witness that "fact", is Ranieri still making decisions for this club....no, thought not on both counts.

Everyone knows that a handshake deal isnt worth the paper its printed on

If i moaned to people that somebody had not stood by a 'gentleman's agreement' in a business context they would tell me i'm an idiot

It's clearly what he wants us to accept, so if he wants us to do that then we pay him accordingly to soften to blow.

Or we could just pay him minimum wage with a £50m buy-out

If that desperate he could help fund the transfer with his Man City wage. £50m + player that don't want and he bungs in the rest.....not actually that daft

£20Million over 4 years is £100k per week, his wage may jump by that

And, as much as I hate Tottenham,  Kane does seem to be very loyal to his club!

Mahrez needs to take a leaf out of his book and respect his club that's invested and nurtured him and made him into the player he is today!

Trouble with a player being 'loyal' is that as soon as his form dips, he gets accused of 'stealing a living'.

Exactly this. I dont get why everything is talking about loyalty when last season everybody was saying "get rid of Mahrez, he is a one season wonder" and now everybody 100 million ?

Has he turned up for training yet?

He's turned up in a knackered old robin reliant, symbolising the oppressive wage we pay him.

If only he could get a move to Man City he could afford 4 wheels!

Personally I think this whole episode is extremely healthy for football and sets a good example. The club has invested an unbelievable amount in Riyad, not just in wages but in terms of development. Would he have been picked up by another club? Maybe. But the facts are Riyad has had an amazing few years and has been paid extremely well during that period. He signed a contract and as such Leicester have every right to state a fee and be quite firm on that fee. Too often players try to force a move and it's completely unacceptable. I'm pleased that we have demonstrated that you don't have to be bullied by the so-called bigger clubs. If you find a player and invest in his development it's absolutely your right as the selling club to be clear about the fee you want. If the player does not want to be in that position, the simple answer is don't sign the agreement. Frankly the sob story is disgraceful - this is a player who has been plucked from obscurity and become a PL star. Yes he has a right to better himself, yes he has right to want to play at a higher level but only if it works for all parties. A wider point is that I believe we are his best level - a talent no doubt but not in the same league as KDB, Silva or even sterling. Would end up a bit part player.

Because he signed a £100k a week contract before the market went (even more) mental. When he signed that contract (presumably without a gun to his head) we were looking for £50 million because Raheem Sterling’s transfer was the benchmark.

In any event the money he’s paid is immaterial - he wants to move.

Perhaps Mahrez should be focussing his ire on Manchester City who have behaved very poorly with this transfer. Guardiola claims that Mahrez is a long-term target who they were interested in during the summer, when they could have bought Mahrez for the sort of value they seem to be willing to pay now. Instead, knowing full well that the market (which, by the way they have played a greater role than anybody else in distorting) was driving his price up, they waited for 29 days of the January window to make their move and when they did it was at a level that they knew that our owners would never accept. Their tactics were to low ball, get Mahrez to kick up a fuss and hope we’d buckle. We didn’t.

If I was Mahrez I’d be wondering why an oil-rich state-backed super-club who spent over £50 million on each of the last four defenders they signed couldn’t see their way to paying anything approaching the asking price for a PFA Footballer of the Year.

The only people that come out of this well are Leicester. I’ve been critical of our owners in the past but credit where it’s due. They’ve not let us be bullied by Manchester City. Unfortunately Mahrez is stuck in the middle but he’s pointing fingers in totally the wrong direction.

This.

Man City trying to take the piss and it didn’t come off for them.

All the talk from Pep is bullshit;

no offer was received by them in the summer when the most they would have had to pay was £50m.

Their mistake not ours.

Prices have gone up dramatically since and the straight cash offer we were after (according to Percy in the Telegraph) of £80m is not outrageous given other sums being paid: Mahrez is a game changer of a player, Van Dyke is not. Not to mention there is always a premium on forward players compared to defenders, as there is for deals in the January window.

Tough shit Riyad another four and a half months here collecting £100k a week for playing football ??‍♂️

I dont think the argument on here has revolved around loyalty.  Do you really think we should have let him go on the last day for 55 mill and some youth player?

To be fair, I‘d rather we come back to slating Riyad‘s agent and Manchester City mainly, because they are the two biggest culprits here.

The agent, because he tried to force a move 24hrs before transfer deadline. I‘m also convinced he or someone in Riyad‘s entourage is responsible for spreading rumors with regards to the timing of said transfer request, trying to put the blame on LCFC.

Mahrez is poorly advised.

Manchester City for trying to unsettle a highly-rated player with plenty of pedigree with no formal offer at the very last minute. Weren‘t that interested, were they?

Yep, someone leaked the in's and out's of the enquiries/bids - it appears it never went as far as a bid. Releasing information in a bid to turn media opinion against LCFC and the owners.

The situation was principle as much as money and the owners excelled on that.

Also from my understanding the gentlemens agreement was - if we get the right price for you we will let you go.....that's not related to any fixed number, so it's all bollocks really.

Puel also said he wouldn't be sold in January, and he didn't seem to respond to that at the time, so I'm still not sure what his problem is.

Agree except for the Sterling point.

Mahrez is a far better player than Sterling.

I'd say it's unlikely the owners will cave in during the summer or Man City come up with £75M plus

You know the answer to this.

He played like a twat for at

least a year.

This season he’s has played on a similar level to the title winning season.
