Grow up and get behind Riyad, or: stop listening to the press and wait and see how he reacts on the pitch

i think we can manage to give one player a higher wage because of what the club can get for him in the future (plus, he is our best player after all)

How do you think that would go down with the rest of the squad?

And that’s what we did. How can we give him a bigger wage when he won’t sign a new contract? Genuine question

And you can’t tell me Vardy didn’t deserve to be on the same

i said 2 days ago, he should sign a new deal with a fair release clause for all parties (about 75-80 million)

point to riyad and ask "who do you think is the best player in the club? who do you think we value at 95 million".

but i wouldn't put it past vardy or his agent to start some talks to get a better deal.

what's that i'm sensing? is that a....a....a.....ah yes, my new vardy agenda

That’s on him then not the owners.

Vardy got the offer Riyad wanted from Arsenal after the title season.  He thought about it and then decided to stay

Riyad is being a little bitch mate, you know it, I know it, thats the only story here

I really don't think that the owners valuation is unrealistic in this market given that statistically he's on par with the likes of Coutinho and Hazard.

To put that into context let's say Man City had offered £70m and we had accepted, do people honestly think that he is half the player that Coutinho is?!?

The fact that Man City got nowhere near £70m says a lot about how they actually rate him. I get the impression given Riyad's actions during the past two windows and the fact that he has publicly stated his desire to play for Barcelona that he considers himself to be a top top player, yet Pep stated today 'Maybe in the future we can buy players for £100m but it will be for a special player', which suggests to me that given Man City's bid of £50m plus one of their random fringe player's that he really doesn't consider Mahrez to be anywhere near a 'special player'. If I was Mahrez I actually think I'd feel quite insulted by Pep's comments today as it shows that they only ever really saw him as a stop gap to fill in whilst Sane recovers and nothing more.

For those saying that we're being unreasonable by holding out for a fair valuation and not allowing him to move let's not forget that a contract is a two way street. There was a point last season where we potentially looked like we could get relegated. To play devil's advocate, let's say we had gone down and then upon relegation got hit with a massive fine by the Football League and were subsequently forced to cut costs to avoid further sanctions in line with FFP, with no suitors for Mahrez due to his poor form last season, and his £100k a week salary being restrictive to a transfer, would Mahrez have agreed to take a pay cut to reflect dropping down a league in order to protect the interests of the club? I think the answer would most certainly have been 'no'.

For the record, I do think that under the current circumstances given market conditions that his wage is not reflective of his valuation so this needs to change in fairness to him, however I really don't know how we approach this matter as it'd be wholly inappropriate to be seen to be rewarding such recent behaviour and send out the wrong message to the rest of the squad.

Hopefully he sees sense and we can all move on from the debacle. I'm not angry with him as he deserves the chance to play at a top club as I'll never forget his contribution to us winning the PL, but I must say that I'm very very disappointed with how he's gone about his business in the last few days.

Fair point !

Your bottom paragraph regarding moving on get back playing we all hope this can happen, but with his advisors giving him what seems to be very poor Advice regarding going AWOL and putting out a statement via a “close friend!” Shows that he needs to find an agent who looks after his best interests and not their own !

But his actions of late  refusing to turn up to training and not letting the club be aware of his whereabouts could be detrimental to his further career !

The lad just needs now to let his performances do the talking if he really wants a big move for a “Bigger” Club to come in for him at the end of the season or has he now damaged his reputation by acting in this way?

Give him a contract, 10k a week and 50 million release clause.. Doesn't extend his deal and if he keeps up the good work he'll get his dream move.

In all honesty if they offered us £65m and Brahim Diaz I probably would have took that, but whose to say the player they were offering even would have wanted to come? It's all ifs, buts and maybes but Riyad has behaved very poorly during this whole thing. He should have kept his trap shut and let the clubs handle the business, now I'm betting Pep is thinking "Wow, dodged a bullet there"... what would he be like when Sane is fit and he's not getting regular game time? A bloody nightmare.

he will snatch your hands for that, even for free and a 50 million release clause would be a good deal for him

My point is if he wants to go on the cheap than we'll pay him on the cheap! If he wants the big money than he can expect a big fee is what will take to get him. He can't have it both ways.

It's clearly what he wants us to accept, so if he wants us to do that then we pay him accordingly to soften to blow.

Or we could just pay him minimum wage with a £50m buy-out

Would have thought we have eyes on potential replacements should he have been sold after what happened in the summer. Fairly sure the selling price on 1st Jan would have been lower than 31st Jan too, as we'd have had no chance to source the replacement and would have been weakened through the remainder of the season.

Because he signed a £100k a week contract before the market went (even more) mental. When he signed that contract (presumably without a gun to his head) we were looking for £50 million because Raheem Sterling’s transfer was the benchmark.

In any event the money he’s paid is immaterial - he wants to move.

Perhaps Mahrez should be focussing his ire on Manchester City who have behaved very poorly with this transfer. Guardiola claims that Mahrez is a long-term target who they were interested in during the summer, when they could have bought Mahrez for the sort of value they seem to be willing to pay now. Instead, knowing full well that the market (which, by the way they have played a greater role than anybody else in distorting) was driving his price up, they waited for 29 days of the January window to make their move and when they did it was at a level that they knew that our owners would never accept. Their tactics were to low ball, get Mahrez to kick up a fuss and hope we’d buckle. We didn’t.

If I was Mahrez I’d be wondering why an oil-rich state-backed super-club who spent over £50 million on each of the last four defenders they signed couldn’t see their way to paying anything approaching the asking price for a PFA Footballer of the Year.

The only people that come out of this well are Leicester. I’ve been critical of our owners in the past but credit where it’s due. They’ve not let us be bullied by Manchester City. Unfortunately Mahrez is stuck in the middle but he’s pointing fingers in totally the wrong direction.

Spot on.

I wish I'd written that!

If he was properly advised he would let it known that he will not sign a new contact and will walk free and able to negotiate his own signing on fee in 2.5 years. He'd get less of

That's 130 weeks away or around 100 games

He'll earn £13,000,000+ in that time and we'll lose £50,000,000+   (£650,000 per game)

He could of course of earned another £13m in that time if Man City were to double his wages.

Club are still right to insist on market value

At the same time, he has a gentlemen's agreement with Ranieri and Vichai.

Ranieri's gone. If such an agreement ever truly existed, it's not existing in its original form any longer.

Sorry.
