Stadium Expansion - at last !

Recommended Posts

It's been nearly a month since they announced this.

I would've expected to see some artists impressions or something by now. No snippets, hints or anything.

It's all gone quiet over there.

I think they're much further along than they let on when they announced it. That said how long was it after they announced the training ground that they released mock ups?

From the LCFC Chairman's address...

"Retaining it must be our biggest priority as we continue to grow and evolve – particularly in the development of our proposed new training ground at Seagrave and the potential expansion of King Power Stadium."

So, it's only 'potential' now ??

Please God, don't let it look like this...

? I know it's not very imaginative. I mainly wanted to get an idea of the size.

I worked out that one of the longer stands, without either corner, holds roughly 8k, so doubling the height would obviously add another 8k. I think the scale is pretty accurate if the stadium is going to be around 40k.

I refer you to my last comment.

Fair play for the effort my man, think we're all hoping for 3/4 of the ground to be re-developed.

Cheers. Yeah, that would be good, but I don't think it's going to happen any time soon. The stadium was designed to be expanded to 40k on the east and south stands, I think. Obviously, the rest could be done, as well, it would just cost more to do.

I'd be interested to see what other people would like the expansion to look like. As I said, I didn't give much thought to the aesthetics - I was just interested to know how much bigger it would look, really. I'm a fan of the way St James' Park looks, so I'd be happy if we just had a boring scaling up of a stand. I doubt I'd be so happy to climb all the stairs to get to my seat, though.

Had a go at this myself a while ago. Yeh the editing is bad, and most of it is stolen from various other stadiums, but I'd give my right arm to watch us in a stadium like this:

From an email I have seen

could be bollox but it might not be

“they are facing some pressure in Thailand and until that is resolved the £250/300m quoted for a 2nd tier on south and East Stand with 4000 new hospitality seats has been shelved for 12 months at least expect an announcement end of this year with plans and construction to begin next summer.

There is 3 different designs on offer with the owners favouring the south and east stand being extended to a 2nd tier with a new gantry and roof to blend into a sweeping curve and stunning facade visable from a long way away. Nothing has been submitted formally to the council but the council have an allocated development planning officer working with the club to help the process along. This will be a huge revival project with retail , leisure and increased arena size at the heart of it, Genting Leisure the casino company are rumoured to be involved and the model they would like to see is the same as they developed at the NEC in Birmingham they call that the Genting Resort”

You do understand that not every game is an end of season dead rubber against West Ham don't you?

Once again, this is not just about filling the ground to the brim instantly. It's about providing more tickets to support demand in the short term, there is demand that can't be met most weeks. I know lots of people that gave up looking for tickets a long time ago and don't even attempt it, there have to be 1000's who would like to come down a bit more casually, or people who want to come as groups and not be scattered in single seats around the ground.

It's also about giving the club the room to grow into, we didn't need 32000 when we were at Filbo, but we built it and now we fill it. It can take decades to build loyal support, but without the extra seas it won't happen.

Don't forget you have say six big games a season, plus first and last games which are usually popular, plus Christmas games. Where demand could often fill an expansion.

Will need more than 7 extra seas/seats to make a difference. :D

No way will we be paying "£250/300m" for an extension. lol

Tottenham's no expense spared stadium only cost about twice that from scratch.

The Emirates cost £390m in 2006.

I suspect your right but spurs final total just went through the Billion pounds mark

I think it’s quite likely that figure includes the new retail / Hotel / leisure complex as well

£120m for stands and £130+ for the whole retail/leisure stuff

At that kind of money you would surely just start from scratch. You wouldn't spend £500,000 putting an extension on your two bed terrace in St Matthews.
