Vicente Iborra de la Fuente (Moncada, 1/16/1988) could be the prodigal son of Levante UD. His most representative player, today in the ranks of English Leicester, could return home for the next season. The sporting director of the Barça club, Tito, has explored the possibility of recovering the player and has already asked about his contractual situation. As reported by the COPE, the possibility seems complicated, because Iborra meets the first of the four seasons for which he signed, and perceives some very high emoluments.

He debuted as a professional in the 2007-2008 season with Gianni De Biasi in Levante UD, the club where he was formed. He was international under-21 and after forming part azulgrana squad that qualified for Europa League, he signed for Sevilla in 2013 for five seasons for 6 million euros where he ended up being captain. In 2017 his transfer to Leicester City was made official for a total of fifteen million euros and a duration of four years. Iborra debuted in a friendly match with the group in English in a game played in Hong Kong and faced Leicester against West Bromwich Albion.

Iborra to Levante is a strange link. Their record buy is under £3m so they'd have to smash it for a 30yo or we'd have to take a huge loss.

I know a lot of people like him on here but he was such bad business for us. We bought a player for £12m who was 29 and never came here as a first team starter. He was also on the verge of signing for Sunderland for £5m less the season before. He's come here and turned into the squad player we expected him to be and if we want to offload him then we'll more than likely be taking a huge loss to do so.

£12m doesn’t get you much these days.  He’s an upgrade on King / James so for me he is somewhere between a first team starter and a squad player.  Either way he stays.

Isn't £12m about the going rate for a squad player?

It's terrible business buying a squad player for £12m who is a few months from his 30th birthday.

I'm certain Puel would have never authorised it, he'd want first team players (Pereira & Evans), young talented squad players (Diabate) who we will at least get our money back or maybe a Hegazi type player who is 29, would supplement the squad and is available for £2.5m.

It was apparent when we bought Iborra that he wouldn't start ahead of Ndidi and Drinkwater and we would lose money on him as he'd either retire here or we'd lose a lot of money with his resale.

Ah I personally feel it was worth every penny!

Iborra is a fine player, and our best fun of the season came with him in the side. I think he has been good value for the fee we paid for him. He seems like a solid professional on and off the pitch. Taking him out of the team had a dire consequence for our form!

I do see the point of a lack of resale value, but I think going from the 16/17 debacle of having a dearth of central midfielders resulting in starting line-ups featuring King and Amartey, we had a nicer problem of having to choose from James, Silva and Iborra this season. None of those players excelled, but were all better than options we had the previous season. I personally think that Ndidi and Iborra was the best CM partnership we had last season, though Choudhury and Silva looked quite good together in some matches toward the end.

Something happened mid season as Puel lost faith with him. Iborra definitely slows play down a lot, and I think Puel wanted him to distribute it much faster. I think the fundamentally different way in play style might be the reason why these rumours are being circulated. Perhaps like Drinkwater last season, he is a player we would consider selling for the right offer.

I'd like us to keep him, but I suppose with Iborra, Silva, James and Choudhury we might have one too many players and I think Puel still prefers James over the other two! I'm pretty sure James only came out of the team as he was injured.

A vastly underrated player here in my opinion

Suzie is also vastly underrated according to Sheppyfox.

You don’t buy a 29 year old and offer them a 4 year contract and expect any resale value.  That isn’t why he was bought.

if he stayed for 4 years was involved for all 4 sessions and then left for free it would be a very successful signing.

We'll have to agree to differ.

You've already accepted that your £12m investment is worthless in four years and this isn't a player who is expected to be a first team player and nor has he proved to be, he's been a decent squad player and no more.

I'll guarantee that Sevilla couldn't get him out the door quick enough when we offered £12m considering they had accepted £7m from Sunderland the season before. I'm not saying we should never sign players approaching 30 but they got great money for him and we grossly overpaid.

Our net spend should average about £20m per season for the club to break even. We spent more than half that on a player we knew wouldn't have a resale value and came here as a squad player.

Puel wasn’t in charge when he signed it was Shakespeare.

Signing a player of his calibre & experience for £12m (which is the reported figure which are usually inaccurate) in today’s market is in no way terrible business. His main attributes which are his vision, passing ability & controlling the pace of play from the middle of the park aren’t effected by age & are invaluable to the team. Cambiasso showed us that and he was 4yrs older!

Despite the few injury problems he’s had whenever he does play it’s evident what a class act he is & you can see the improvements in N’didi’s game also as he learns from him.

When he first came into the side he really provided something we seemed to be lacking, namely he always seemed to be available to receive a pass. Injury seems to have limited his impact.

I quite like Iborra but do think he's a little over-rated by our fans at times. He's no amazing playmaker. He makes some very clever passes and generally looks comfortable on the ball but is prone to giving the ball away cheaply. He's so slow as well that he's not that great a screen for the defence.

Our best set piece threat though and easily good enough to be in and around the first team.

He has played for them before so could be an old photo.

He doesn't look five years younger though, does anyone know how old his kids are now?

Dunno about the one on the right, but looking at the kid on the left, I think they might be twins.

Iborra striking resemblance to his brother.

He does something with Levante called ‘Iborra Day’ or something like that, I think it’s to do with that. Maybe this was last year as isn’t his wife very pregnant now?

The caption with the photo when translated starts with "one year..". Could be a throwback post thing. Is he posing with a season ticket?
